Qualifying WC to junior champion?

Unless they changed their methods it should be so. Tiago Fernandes should receive a qualifying wildcard.

Seems like Soeda Go will get the WC from ATF.

Can you give us the source? Some of his fans are thrilled to hear that and might fly there if it's confirmed. Many thanks.

Now that Tomic and Kubler withdrew what are the chances they'll get Maindraw Wildcards anyway?

Tomic will get one but not so sure about Kubler. The competition to get one this year will be alot tougher with Guccione, Ball, Luczak, Matosevic. Although Matosevic and Luczak don't fit in with the youth policy they are Australia's highest ranked players outside of Hewitt and Woodbridge who decides the wildcards does work very closely with them. Ball at the moment is our number 2 in Davis Cup and Guccione is still a big name.

So is Berman playing for Australia or the USA, he'd be better off playing for Australia in terms of getting wildcards, and Davis Cup, but I'd imagine that he'd get better funding from the USTA. Also do we know if he's going to play juniors again this year?

And I could also see Duckworth getting a wildcard, if this doesn't turn out well. He's had some strong futures results, and he's also very young, at least a qualifying wildcard. I can actually see Duckworth in the final of this thing, but not winning it, the top half is a lot stronger.

http://www.tennis.com/articles/templates/news.aspx?articleid=9280&zoneid=25Drama Down Under: Tomic's illness questioned
December 15, 2010 - Ticker

The continuing saga of controversial Aussie teenager Bernard Tomic continued as the Herald Sun is questioning whether the 18-year-old was legitimately ill when he pulled out of the Australian Open wildcard playoffs.

Tomic notified officials of his withdrawal on Sunday night, but the Herald Sun reported that he practiced for two hours in Queensland on Tuesday, the day the competition began. The newspaper said that Tomic is confident that he will be handed one of Tennis Australia's discretionary wildcards for the Australian Open and didn’t feel he needed to compete in the playoffs.

"If what you're saying is correct, one, I'd be highly annoyed and, two, I'd have to talk to the team on what decision we would be taking," Australian Open director Craig Tiley said. “He'd be considered (for a wildcard), he's been considered all year... but if someone makes a decision to rely on the discretionary wildcard, I never advise someone to do that. This is why we have this event, because you can confirm your opportunity, you know you've got it and you can just prepare for your summer…I know for a fact that each year it's getting harder because there are more players, younger players, who are very good. So it's going to start going to players who are doing the right thing."

Aussie veteran Peter Luczak, who will face James Lemke in quarterfinals of the playoff, said he would compete regardless of his health.

"You couldn't have stopped me from playing this," Luczak said. "Twisted ankle or broken leg, I would have been out here trying."

In the women's draw, Alicia Molik and Jelena Dokic both scored wins. Dokic bested Nina Catovic 6-3, 6-2, while Molik edged Sophie Letcher 6-4, 7-6 (4).—Matthew Cronin

I think the four remaining WCs should go to Luczak, Ball, Ebden and Tomic. Kubler doesn't deserve one, and he is injured anyway.

If Luczak has to play qualies then something is seriously wrong with TA. The guy is only ~30 spots from a direct entry, is a hard worker, represents his country well, and was two games away from winning the WC tourney as is.

I don't understand what Blake is going to do, first I saw his name in an exhibition in Adelaide in the same week that AO qualies (http://worldtennischallenge.com/news.html), I thought it could be a mistake, but now I realise he's not in Qualies Entry List. Only logical option seems to be he will receive a WC

Ryan will get a WC into MD. So he's not gonna play qualies.

If Blake does get a WC, that's going to really pack in the TA wildcard selection and could leave out some guys that would be surprising. Guys like Ebden or Luczak are definitely on thin ice now.

Good news that Luczak has been awarded a wildcard. He is a model professional and most probably in his last 12-18 months on the tour, so this should be the start of a nice farewell tour for him.

Good choices from TA. I wonder if Tomic's "I know I'm gonna make it, so I'm above this wildcard playoff" act will end up costing him.

I was seeking past years draws and at less in the last 5 years the 5 WC that don't go to USTA, FFT or ATF always were to australian players, so I think it's almost impossible they give one to Blake.
What I don't understand is why he travels almost the whole world to play an exhibition if he's not planning to play AO

http://www.tennisreporters.net/ttn%20122910.htmlBernard Tomic has been awarded the final wildcard into Brisbane, but it looks like it’s not going to be all that simple to get a wild card into the Aussie Open. Tomic received the Brisbane wildcard after fellow Aussie Jason Kubler became injured, but Tennis Australia’s Todd Woodbridge said that before granting the teenager an Aussie Open wildcard, they want to see how he (and others) fair in Brisbane and Sydney. Tomic's pulled out of the Australian Open wildcard playoffs with an illness, but was reportedly seen practicing the day after.

in all honestly beside millman, who else deserve a wildcard ahead of tomic? if you say carsten ball... you're off my buddy list.

Yeah, that's it exactly. Tomic doesn't really deserve one, but who else are they going to give the two remaining ones to? And if htey give to a foreigner, Tomic will leave Australia.

Tomic should get one and Ball will probably arse his way to one with a decent showing in Sydney if he gets the right draw. Ball would be the only Aussie ranked in the top 200 (153) not to receive one, he has made good use of previous wildcards into GS, was our number 2 for our as Davis Cup tie and is only 23. Only thing stopping him is form but his close loss to Mannarino suggests he can turnaround the form in Sydney if given the right draw in Qualies. Millman could change it all with a win in Brisbane though.

I would say the 2 WC`s are down between Tomic, Millman, Ball, and Guccione. If Tomic wins his final qualifying match in Sydney I think he'll get one as he may not have time to get to Melbourne, the other one will probably got to Ball, but if Guccione wins his final Sydney qualifying match he might sneak in there for the same reason Tomic will. Millman likely won't get one, but he's the only other person I would consider

probably Rule Guccione out....he isnt playing doubles this week so i think it's safe to say he will be in qualies although he didnt enter using his protected ranking so??? However if he can win a match in sydney main draw...

Tomic is a lock in now after qualifying for Sydney.....and they love Carsten so i think he will be getting the other one..

anyone else think that because of what happened last year and the whole thing with tomic claiming to be sick so he didnt have to play in that wild card playoff and then being spotted training the next day that they'd ignore giving him a wild card?

go with guccione and ball or 2 other guys and make bernard qualify as a kind of punishment for all that?

also..what about the defending junior champion couldnt they also give him a wild card into the main draw?
