WC's for Jarkko Nieminen & Henri Kontinen

superb list

I kinda hope Jarkko won't play this and it might very well be so, though this tournament is in his calendar in his website, he has also written that he has 1Ĺweeks more to go before games end. Obviously it's not like I wouldn't like to see Jarkko play here and would be also disappointing if he won't play here, but would just be so stupid if one WC would be wasted for him here just because he didn't entry :(...

As a top 50 player you can't enter challengers directly. You have to recieve a WC.

This list is major, and expect the other WCs to be ATP players, same in Bratislava. This is basically the last opportunity for major points and solidifying AO MD so everyone will be playing with maximum effort. Also expect the entry list to eventually go down to the Greul/Bozo/Pospisil/Koubek range, especially if some of these guys solidify top 100 positions in weeks before this. I fully expect Kamke, Mannarino, Sela and a few others to withdraw.

Paukku? Heliovaara is in down under.
Laaksonen? HE is playing and training more for switzerland.
Timo Nieminen maybe.

If the Finns get more than two, then Micke Kontinen is likely to be next in line

Jarkko Nieminen will play only in doubles since he needs to recover properly from long season. WC: Henri Kontinen, Micke Kontinen, Marko Djokovic and Anthony Dupuis. Don't really get it at all why Dupuis gets wild card again (he got one last year too)...

REALLY harsh draw for grigor. He needs to win this event to achieve his goal of making the top 100 by year's end or atleast the AO main draw but ....not looking good

Simone got Kunitsyn. Well, since two of my faves got paired with each other, I'm happy Igor had a good week this week. And an exhausting one. Simone should win one or two rounds, I think the 2nd round is also winnable, since Dancevic hasn't been great since that long week in Rennes.

Yeah, Misty, pretty tough draw for Grigor. I think he's going to beat Kamke, but then again he may not, that will be difficult. Then either of the two Russians in R2 will be hard. Then most likely either Reister/Somdev. He's going to have to be on his game.

he will have to come out strong from the sdtart to beat kamke and so far he has not proven that he can start like that after a break. Grigor always starts tournaments slow and if kamke shows up and is motivated and playing well then he'll beat grigor.

i hope he does though, i'd like to see grigor end the season on a high note not 0-4

11-20-2010, 02:02 PM
Stefan got Mannarino. I don't know if that is bad or good, since Adrian has been struggling the last few weeks. Should be winnable, than a QF is definitely there for him.

Harrison v Kontinen, battle of the youngsters. Should be interesting, especially with the potential rematch of Brown v Harrison.

Michal P. has a dream draw, but is he too injured to take advantage? We'll see, I read he was withdrawing here.

Berankis has a relatively difficult but nice draw in general, a SF is a definite possibility for him.

Somdev has about the best draw possible to win a couple of matches. I can't see Klizan backing up his week this week outside of Slovakia.

Lastly, Blaz, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take advantage of your draw and win the two necessary matches. Although Skugor I guess will beat him. Another really good opportunity for him, he needs to take it.

Interesting draw considering this is the last week of challengers of the year.

Great 1st round match between Kamke and Dimitrov. I guess that Kamke should be the favourite to win that match. Dimitrov has not been really lucky with the draws on these last challenger tournaments of the year but it`s going to help him to his experience. The winner of that match should be one of the semifinalists here.
There are very interesting matches on that 2nd quarter of the upper half of the draw. Great to see that Antony Dupuis was given a WC :worship:. I don`t know if many of you have seen him playing before and although he is not that talent he is a really clever player. At this stage Dancevic shouldn`t have troubles to win it though. There are other interesting 1st round matches like the ones of Berankis vs Gabashvili, Ivan Navarro vs Roger Vasselin (the game of both players suits perfectly on this surface). Kunitsyn should be the favourite to be the 2nd semifinalist on that upper side of the draw but he has not been playing well lately. The surface suits perfectly for him too. Hard to predict the 2nd semifinalist.

On the 3rd quarter Harrison has an interesting draw to advance. Will see if he can beat Dustin Brown. Mannarino shouldn`t have many troubles to be the 3rd semifinalist while Przysiezny shouldn`t have to find many troubles to be the last one.

Very interesting draw.:)

Kunitsyn was in good shape too, but maybe Devvarman will make sth interesting here. Dancevic can make breakthrough too. Gabashvili and Berankis? Berankis screwed some good MP's last week, so I won't bet on him. Harrison can make QF here too. Grigor needs SF to be in AO.

_Chaz
11-21-2010, 05:39 PM
If Kamke beats Dimitrov and gets to the QFs and Reister as well (quite possible I think, Kim is beatable and Klizan/Somdev are probably tired from Bratislava/Asian Games), he'll for sure lose to him. They're good friends since they are children and with a SF Reister would probably get into AO MD and Kamke doesn't need the points so much.

yes, once time Safin said that he lose 25 or 26 matches in the year when he is been third on ranking list and he said that for example in football a team that lose 25 matches is gonna been relegated for sure but in tennis...

when they start to cut off points for loses from under ranked player or something they maybe gonna play with some more wish to win and not sign in in tournaments only for money from prizes or fixing!

how do these finnish courts play? slow ? fast?

here's the thing i have been saying for a while though:

grigor starts slow, he struggles when coming back from breaks plus he has alot of pressure on him ..from himself to do well here

sadly i think if kamke cares about this tournament, because it's perfectly possible that he doesnt. I think he'd beat grigor. And i know grigor beat him before but this is a completely different and much more confident tobias

Zopp 6-4 against Bemelmans. Question: Who is Zopp? :)
I guess Bemelmans should buy a brain omg.

Zopp is not a mug, he has a talent. Just look his result in futures. I could say that it was your big mistake, as a gambler, to pick a Bemelmans against Zopp :) This game was simply ''no bet''.

JustJames
11-22-2010, 09:13 PM
I saw Zopp play in Loughborough and was suitably impressed. He tore through a British Futures event before the Challenger and showed an all-courtgame, not just constrained to the baseline but making confident movements into the net. He took an in-form Bachinger to three sets and a coin toss would have been a suitable way to decide the winner, they both looked like comfortable top 200 players. If Zopp can develop his serve further and gain composure at the net and forecourt then I see no reason why he can't get into the top 150.

Only 1 variant - Gabashvili tanked this 1st round match. Berankis just did his job - he played his game and for him it wasnt important how motivated Gabashvili was today. But here could be other thing - if u bet on Gabashvili :) We all know that Gaba is from fixers' group, and if u bet today on him - you are simply bad gambler, cause good gambler should walk away from games where play players like Gabashvili :)

Also saw Zopp-Bemelmans, which I see many have discussed here about. It's not like it was easy win for Zopp, especially first it seemed Bemelmans was in control, but Zopp served really well when it really mattered, so Bemelmans wasn't able to break, which IMO made difference here. And talk about Zopp's serve max 180km/h :spit:, he served multiple times over 200km/h and was actually serving faster serves than Bemelmans, but Zopp varies it a bit so I guess he can sometimes serve with more spin and only 180km/h. It wasn't really too high quality match though, often really short points, but they were also attacking much so it was probably partly because of that.
Can't say anything about case Gabashvili since I was watching Timo Nieminen's match when they were playing (which was most entertaining match of the day at least for me, so obviously not going to stop watching it even if I'd really loved to see Berankis too :).)

I disagree with you about Simone. He should win that match. Kunitsyn is coming off a long week in Slovakia and he doesn't have the type of game that Simone hates. Simone should dictate and be able to hit Kunitsyn off the court.

Also I think Harrison will win over Kontinen, and look for a potential upset for Dupuis. Also Elgin should have a decent chance at winning.

Somdev should be able to make the AO, but he would have definitely made it had he won a match or two here. He should have decent chances of making it through withdrawals. How does the Asian WC work, don't they give it to the highest ranked player? If so, Somdev should be fine. But this is disappointing regardless.

dustin brown to tank and take a rest?

Filo V.
11-23-2010, 10:37 AM
Top 104 make MDs of majors automatically. We already know Gonzalez is out, and Del Potro will be in, so who else will use a PR? Maybe Machi Gonzalez, Haas if he's capable, and that's about it. So the cut off will likely be between 100-102. You can usually bank on at least 4 withdrawals at a major, and usually 4-8, so the ending cut off will probably be in the 108-110 range. Just one or two wins will make a huge difference for some of these guys.

Filo V.
11-23-2010, 10:39 AM
I thought Michal P. was going to tank yesterday, I'm disappointed he won since he jumped past my boy Darcis in the rankings. I read somewhere that he has something wrong in his wrist.

Expect Grigor to be highly motivated and beat Kamke, who has nothing to play for. Kravchuk should beat Kudryavtsev, who is coming off a hard loss in Slovakia, and same with Simone over Kunitsyn.
