and finally something I've always wondered...what do people who grew up or lived in singapore really think about:

Interesting questions..

Haven't visited many countries but yeah from what I've heard, I guess Singapore is one of the cleaniest cities around. I'm not patriotic and am not fond of the way some things are in Singapore, especially the paper chase and our 'national language' Singlish, when used excessively :o

The ban has its pros and cons. A major drop in gum litter (saw a lot of it around) since the ban was imposed, but I love gum and wished it was sold still

hiya!!!!!!! which part of the tiny island are you from?

The East; near the second in line to the throne "Seedy" Joo Chiat.

What's the point? He still had to retire? :o
Hence my 'for a moment.' ;)

3) The Chewing Gum Ban
- a good thing?
- a bad thing?
- a 'i couldn't care less either way' thing?

Personally, i couldn't really care less. When i was growing up we always had a healthy supply of smuggled gum from Malaysia.

So, how was last night's matches? I went to watch 881 and came back with a throbbing headache, had to go straight to sleep.

Interesting questions..

Haven't visited many countries but yeah from what I've heard, I guess Singapore is one of the cleaniest cities around. I'm not patriotic and am not fond of the way some things are in Singapore, especially the paper chase and our 'national language' Singlish, when used excessively :o

hehe you can say that again ;) But it's how convenient Singapore is more than its cleanliness that gets me...things just dont work as well anywhere else!
Best thing about a government that runs the nation like an efficient corporation ;)

Well, at least he won. My favourites would do well to learn to win when they are playing like s***. :tape:

I know...just like Fed raised the bar on how to win with your best play...yesterday he has set new standards of how to win with your very worst!

Yeah I could care less too tbh about the gum ban...though if I were to think about it Id say it was a good thing...better for health and also much less dirty and unremovable marks on the streets!

Anyway I was only asking you guys...coz seriously everytime I meet someone and tell them I'm from Singapore...the 2 responses I get are:

1) "Oh would you like some chewing gum?"
2) "That's where they tortured that kid right?" (A referernce to Michael Fay and Caning)

So I was just wondering what we thought about the whole gum ban...since clearly it's the single most famous thing about Singapore!!

I post on a Chinese tennis forum and they asked me about it too. They also asked if criminals get caned for petty offences.

Hah. er...hmmm...
Well when I was living there...no, I didn't like it much.
Having spent the last er 6 years in different countries...I can tell you safely...there really is no place like home! ;)

So yeah I guess I kinda love singapore...not all of it...not everything about it...but many things over the years I've come to appreciate more and more.
I guess you have to lose it before you learn its value ;).
But shhh - don't tell anyone I've admitted this!! :secret:

Although I've never lived overseas, I can foresee myself missing a lot of things about Singapore if I leave one day. Having said that, I year to go abroad to broaden my horizons.

I assumed you're in Singapore at the moment  I guess I will miss some things about Singapore too, but I very much prefer a laid-back lifestyle and also like SW said, to experience the many cultures out there and know people of different races/nationalities :)
