Playoffs: Morocco vs Australia

Morocco: Mehdi Ziadi Hicham Arazi Mounir El Aarej Mehdi Tahiri

Australia: Lleyton Hewitt Todd Reid Wayne Arthurs Todd Woodbridge

Surface: Grass (Outdoors)

Played at West Perth Australia

Morocco is really doomed!!! lol. I dont believe they have a chance of winning a match except for maybe Arazi. He is the only decent one on the team on grass.

I went out to where the tie is being held today (Kings Park)....didnt know where the courts were so I thought id better know before Friday

Practice courts were right out back and Todd Woodbridge and Todd Reid were having a hit....pretty cool because the thought never even crossed my mind that there might be anyone on the courts there....and especially seeing as before today the only pro players id seen were Lleyton and Karol Kucera at this years Hopman Cup. Perfect weather today, so hopefully it'll hold up for the weekend

Had the digital camera there, but didnt want to sit around taking photos so I only took the one photo of Woodbridge

edit: bugger...cant post the image (the files 3 times too big and I dont have a program to resize it)

fuckin hell...this really sucks now.

Arazi just pulled because of an 'undisclosed injury'....lazy bastard

I was hoping to see at least 2 good matches because of Arazi playing, but seeing as how he most likely wanted more $ to play, the whole things going to be a whitewash

Heres hoping the remaining Moroccans can play out of their skins

Yeah, the article I just read said that Arazi demanded an amount of money that the Moroccan tennis federation couldn't or wouldn't give him. Damn. Lleyton's about to break Adrian Quist's record and I'd like it to be against a decent player.

Aussies might as well as play the girls now

even the boys U12's would probably win.

Good luck Australia! I hope they give Reid some court time even if it's a dead rubber. I never write off anyone in Davis Cup but Lleyton and co versus Morocco without either of its stars does seem a little bit uneven. Still, let's hope for some good matches.

Normally you discuss how many rubbers a country will win, but here it's easier to speculate about how many games the moroccans will win

I was just reading on the bocs ticketing site that we're not allowed to take cameras into the venue...wtf?

I've only seen this on the bocs site, so does anyone who's going know that your definitely not allowed cameras?

Just curious as to why theyre ok at the Hopman Cup but not here....

i've just read it myself too on the site...that has to be the most ridiculous piece of crap I've ever seen. Of all the tennis tournaments I've been to around the world, I've never seen that before. Screw that, I'm taking my camera...it's not like there's a flash or anything involved so there would be no problem for the players

yeah I know, I read it...the only thing I can think of is, at the Australian Open some cameras are banned because their zoom is too great. Like one of my friends was told by one of the officials that she couldn't use it because the zoom was too great (like, only professional photographers could use zooms like that), so I'm hoping that's all it is...that's all I can think of anyway. If that's the case, a normal digital camera is fine.

Cool

I'll probably call the place and get a definite on it tomorrow, seeing as I'll getting there by bus and wont have a car to chuck the camera in if they decide to take a stupid stance on them

So the final thing to hope for is clear skies....

I might have watched a bit if Younes or Hicham were playing, but now I dont think I will watch any of it.

Hey,
Did you call up Bocs today? What did they say about the cameras? Yeah, I also hope the weather will be good...I think it'll be ok...not overly warm, but shouldn't be raining which is good!

no, didnt call

Found out last night that my dad had decided to take the digital camera on his holiday, which he leaves for early Friday (until last night he'd said he wasnt going to take it), so I wont have a camera to take anymore

With each passing forecast the rain seems to be getting pushed back a day, so with that trend there might be some tomorrow :) but if theres any during the series it'll only be pretty brief. As for the temp, I'm up under the shaded part so it'll be a bit cooler there........wish I was out in the sun

This win means that Lleyton is now the most successful Australian Davis Cup player with 25 singles wins :)

Well done Lleyt ;)

And he accomplished that over a much shorter period of time than Quist. Congratulations, Lleyton! :worship:

Well, Todd (Reid) will most likely play a dead rubber, because Lleyton has already asked not to play on Sunday, if he doesn't have to. Assuming his ankle is OK, of course.

I managed to get the camera at the last minute

All the sign said at the tennis was no flash, so I dont know what bocs were on about

Took a bunch of pics, but crappy zoom and a row of fatheads in front of me = meh photos

Singles went pretty quick, but I still enjoyed the day

The doubles match was pretty cool

Looking forward to seeing if Todd gets out there today

From the scoreline, it looks like the Moroccan team was playing out of its collective mind. Good to hear that you had a nice time.

I had the same problem with my digicam at the Legg Mason (well, no fatheads in front of me, I was in the front row of the second deck). But the zooms on those things are pretty pathetic compared with non-digital cameras. I didn't even bother saving the photos.

Todd Reid just lost the first dead rubber to El Aaref, 6-2, 6-3. I hope for his sake he was hung over from celebrating last night.

Yeah, not a good start for Todd, but Mounir (or Rambo as he was called a few times from the crowd :) ) played fantastic attacking tennis....really went for his shots and had a bucketload more winners than Todd

All in all I was pretty pleased with what I got to see over the past 3 days.....only the second tournament I've been to, and what couldve been a complete and utter blowout was made entertaining by the Moroccans

I had to zoom in alot when editing the pics, even after I had taken the photos with the camera in full zoom, so thats why theyre grainy

Thanks for posting the photos, Auscon! Glad to hear that you had a good time. You need to make it to Melbourne one of these days (as I do, too).

Nice to see that Todd and Lleyton got their records acknowledged. They choose nice photos, but I wish they had used the one of Lleyton flat on his stomach by the net yelling "c'mon" during the Federer match.
