Mello out of the home country tournament, too bad. Del Bo out, he must be out for the season. Given his latest results a break is probably necessary since he sucks now.

Please win Marcos or Nico.

Also, nice for Bellu to come play in his home country, even if it's just a challenger :)

I knew Thomaz would come, but I'm very displeased personally that he did, because he's almost definitely going to end up winning, and TAKING POINTS AWAY from guys who need the points. The same thing with Starace, Flo Mayer, Fognini, Serra among others. If you are ranked 70 or below, you SHOULD NOT be allowed to play in a challenger, that is being a points whore, it's greedy and it takes away what challengers are supposed to be about, lower ranked guys having the opportunity to reach the ATP tour. Honestly, my interest in this event has gone down in a major way, I don't want Thomaz to win.

I think you meant ranked 70 or above, but when you put it like this, I'm inclined to agree. For an event like the Sunrise challenger it's a different story since many players who lose early at IW use that to get in more match practice before Miami, but in general, yeah, I agree, that does seem really greedy.

They shouldn't allow to give WCs to players within top 50. Just no players from top 50 in challengers, period.

I'm happy Nico and Marcos got really good draws, but the fact they will likely play in R2 is devastating :( I'm definitely going to have to root for Marcos since this is in Brazil.

The top half of the draw is way stronger than the bottom, and with Rui having played so much tennis lately, the bottom half is pretty open for anyone to take.

Thomaz shouldn`t have many troubles to reach the final here. He is more than one step above of the players that are taking place of the main draw here.

Possibly the other runner up could be Ramos Vińolas or Ramirez Hidalgo. The heat of San Pablo can help Delgado too.

Yeah very fair to give a WC that would usually go to a Brazilian to a Brazilian player that was basically "bought" by the sweeds when he was already 16 years old.

Lindell is a sweedish as I am Italian, meaning a last name. An opportunist, but hey, business is business. What is not really cool for me is to get ahead of other Brazilians that were not bought off.

GugaF1
10-29-2010, 09:33 PM
And the funny thing is that now the Brazilian federation is trying to buy him back...lol

I say leave him as a Sweed, specially now that he already accepted their investment. To go back when they can bank in. Whats the sense of having your nationality auction off back. If he doesn`t feel any contradiction in it, fine.

hm, no. He was born in Rio de Janeiro lived and started playing tennis in Brazil until he was 16 years old and as an accomplished Junior player, played in Sweeden and was basically "bought" by the sweeds.

Mind you that he doesn`t speak Sweedish. And lived he whole life in Brazil. How does that and having a Sweedish father, makes you equally close? are you serious.

it is not an issue to me, I don`t really care. I am just saying he is an opportunist, that used this conection to gain sponsorship. And the Swwdish federation was as well, by "buying" a promossing player.

I think will problably go back to playing for Brazil, because is just so silly the guy is a Brazilian, he evens says so in the interviews here all the time he feels like a regular Brazilian. With a heavy Carioca(people from Rio) native accent....lol

which in turn wouldn`t right for the Sweeded that invested in him. So it is an odd situation.

The rest of your post(s) says otherwise. ;)

I don't see anything too strange about it... it's not like Lindell has absolutely ZERO connection to the Swedish. It's not too different from players like Mamiit and Huey who are part Filipino and have been raised in the US but now play for the Philippines. I guess you'd go where there is more support, financially and otherwise, in order to keep playing.

I don't know the precise reasons why Lindell is playing for Sweden (and if he ever played for Brazil), but either way, that decision seems to be paying off...

Well, they way you said is as if he wouldn`t be a professional player if he did not turn Sweedish. He did it when he was 16 and already a succesful Jr. Player, that is why they "bought" him in the 1 place.

Like I said I don`t really care. It is odd to me because is kind of like nation bidding. I read today that the Brazilian Tennis federation is looking to get him back.

Also, what is not really cool is that he is getting the best out of both countries. Brazil is one of the countries with the most Future events in the World more than 20 a year, as well as a good number of challengers. And he has got WC for a bunch of these and for the Swweden events as well, and why the Brazilian organizers are giving him this in detriment of non "bought" Brazilian player which there are plenty ?

Totally agree with yo u with all the statements that you written on this thread. It`s a similar case to Collarini`s one where USTA took him to play under USA flag when things seemed to be going well in his career.

Marcos really the strongest guy in all week. Happy that Thomaz loses, too. He should play ATP events, not challengers.

Sad that Rui lost in doubles. Would have been the 2nd doubles tittle of the season, also teaming up with Daniel Munoz De La Nava.

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, Marcos! So fucking happy he won, best player in the event, most deserving of the title. Great job, really did so well on serve throughout the event. Hopefully this win is the start to great things for him through the rest of the year.
