Surprised that a thread like this hasn't been started before on here, but I thought it would be interesting to track grand slam debutantes for each major. Stats and formatting shamelessly ripped off from a similar thread started by Corswandt over on TF :hatoff:
I'll just do this year for now and update at each upcoming major. May try and go back and look at older years if I have time at some point.
Colour code:
Player name - player who debuted through a MD WC
Player name - player who got in the MD on ranking
Player name - player who qualified
Players who debuted as lucky losers or got WCs into qualifying are noted as [LL] and [Q WC] respectively.
Stats are: round reached in Slam debut, career high ranking, career best performance at a Slam

Surprised that a thread like this hasn't been started before on here
Maybe because on the ATP there isn't the same excitement over prodigies, supernovas and newcomers that we have on the WTA, as male players tend to establish themselves on the Tour much later? Excitement that we used to have at least; when I began my thread, we all still assumed that those debutantes would be rocking the Tour a couple of years from then. Nowadays we just laugh at Generation Suck. :help:

I love the TF thread (even if it's full of Generation Suck) and I'm sure the MTF version will be just as fun
Interesting that Kukushkin went from his GS debut to his debut ATP title within a couple months.

True, but there seems to be a stats thread on here for just about everything else.
Interesting that Kukushkin went from his GS debut to his debut ATP title within a couple months.
Well spotted. Stakhovsky won Zagreb as a lucky loser in 2008 before playing a GS main draw. Wonder how many other players have managed to do this.
Looks as though Tiago Fernandes is a front runner for a wild card into his debut GS after winning the junior title last year. Highest ranked players in the qualifying draw who have yet to play a GS are Joao Souza, Igor Sijsling, Konstantin Kravchuk, Jaroslav Popisil and Conor Niland. The latter two are both 29 years old and have never made a dent on the main tour, but neither had Stephane Robert before he reached the top 70ish last year at the same age.
I'll update highest rankings and the rest when the AO starts.

Don't mean to steal your thunder, Hooded Claw, but I had put together some older data on this. I want to go back to the start of the Open Era, but haven't gotten past the mid-80s yet. This data is from the ITF website, probably there are some mistakes.
I have used your same formatting, but I have age of debut, rather than career best, just because I didn't have that data on hand.

Just one guaranteed for RG, Maxime Teixeira as a WC. Looks like it will be another small event for debutantes. Playing for debuts tomorrow:
Javier Marti (v. Harrison)
Thomas Schoorel (v. Aguilar)
Augustin Gensse (v. Ilhan)
Nikola Ciric (v. Guez)
Bastian Knittel (v. Ramos)
As #8 seed, I think Schoorel will have at least three shots at a 20% draw for an LL spot, should he lose. Not sure on the others' situations in regards to potential LLs.

Finally updated with Wimbledon debutantes and added the missing Albert Ramos to the list of RG debuts.
More debutantes at Wimbledon than at the other two slams this year but not an overall imnpressive list of newcomers IMO - although admittedly I know little about De Schepper and Stebe.
And :bigclap: to Popisil and Niland for finally joining this list at age 29.

Great thread. Very interesting to see the correlation between the age someone makes their GS debut and the success they have in their career.
Any chance that the first post (2010 and 2011) could be updated with the age that the player debuted?

By my count, just three guaranteed debutantes in New York, but 6 more potential guys playing a third round match, and another 13 who would need to win two matches to make it for the first time. Two sections have three of the four remaining players as debutants, so there's a strong chance in both of those.
Debut:
Steve Johnson (WC)
Tatsuma Ito (DE)
Rogerio Dutra da Silva OR Sergei Bubka (Q)
Kind of interesting to note that one of tomorrow's matches involving a debutant is a rematch of one in London, where Goffin and Sijsling played for a debut.

US Open 2011 updated - may be changing the data in the OP as it is becoming increasingly time consuming checking career high rankings etc for all players in the OP, so stats for AO and RG 2010 debutantes remain as they were for now.

Guaranteed five debutantes for the first GS of the year, three WCs and two through qualys. 8 other guys will play for a debut in the final qualy round.
James Duckworth (WC)
Greg Jones (WC)
Benjamin Mitchell (WC)
Joao Sousa OR Alexander Kudryavtsev (Q)
Roberto Bautista-Agut OR Andre Ghem (Q)
By my measure, there are three guaranteed debutantes for RG this year, along with five guys playing for qualifying spots. At least one LL could give a further debut, with the three seeded guys, Goffin, J Sousa and Munoz the likeliest to have a shot at getting in that way.
Adrian Ungur (DE)
Laurynas Grigelis OR Daniel Munoz-De La Nava (Q)
David Goffin OR Joao Sousa (Q)
Pedro Sousa (v. Haider-Maurer)
Filip Krajinovic (v. Brands)
Axel Michon (v. Kuznetsov)
Jerzy Janowicz (v. Sijsling)
Martin Alund (v. Serra)
A couple of notes: Pedro Sousa could qualify in his first ever attempt at GS level, an impressive feat. David Goffin has already failed in the third round against Joao Souza, so he may end up with flashbacks this time around. Munoz-De La Nava represents a potential rarity, an over-30 debutant; the last was Jaroslav Pospisil last year, but before that you need to go more than 4 years back to Dusan Vemic, and then back a further 15 years to '93 Wimbledon.
Last Romanian to debut: Victor Crivoi (2008 RG)
Last Lithuanian: Ricardas Berankis (2010 W)
Last Spaniard: Roberto Bautista-Agut (2012 AO)
Last Belgian: Ruben Bemelmans (2011 W)
Last Portuguese: Rui Machado (2008 USO)
Last Serbian: Viktor Troicki (2008 AO)
Last Frenchman: Jonathan Dasnieres de Veigy (2011 USO)
Last Pole: Dawid Olejniczak (2008 W)
Last Argentinian: Horacio Zeballos (2009 USO)

David Goffin's spectactular debut, making the 4th round, was the first time since 2000 that a debutant reached that far, that time it was Hyung-Taik Lee. The last time someone did it in Paris was '98, when Marat Safin managed it. It's interesting that this used to be more common, 14 times in the 80s, 10 times in the 90s, but just twice since.
Just two guaranteed debutantes at Wimbledon, but it could go as high as 10, depending on qualifying.
Oliver Golding (WC)
Erik Chvojka OR Inigo Cervantes (Q)
Adrian Menendez-Maceiras (v. Navarro)
Yuichi Sugita (v. Russell)
Peter Torebko (v. Sweeting)
Maxime Authom (v. Bautista-Agut)
Marcel Felder (v. De Schepper)
Farrukh Dustov (v. Bemelmans)
Jerzy Janowicz (v. Kudla)
Only Sugita (0-2) and Janowicz (0-3) have gotten this far and lost before, including a third set loss for Janowicz in Paris, as well as losing 6-8 in the fifth against Martin Fischer last year.
Last Briton to debut: Daniel Cox (2011 W)
Last Canadian: Vasek Pospisil (2011 USO)
Last Spaniard: Daniel Munoz-de La Nava (2012 RG)
Last Japanese: Tatsuma Ito (2011 USO)
Last German: Peter Gojowczyk (2012 AO)
Last Belgian: David Goffin (2012 RG)
Last Uruguayan: Pablo Cuevas (2007 USO)
Last Uzbekistani: Denis Istomin (2006 AO)
Last Pole: Dawid Olejniczak (2008 W)

Didn't get a chance to do a preview yesterday, but in the end there are 6 debutantes in New York:
Maxime Authom
Hiroki Moriya
Guido Andreozzi
Denis Novikov (WC)
Guido Pella
Rhyne Williams
By my count, five men lost in final round qualies, who could have made debuts.
Daniel Kosakowski
Yannick Mertens
Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol
Marius Copil
Tsung-Hua Yang

Was out of town for the start of AO:
There were 9 debutants in Melbourne, similar to last year. This is higher than any of the other slams, in part due to the number of debutant wild cards. In the last 12 GS events, 11 wild cards made debuts. 7 of these were at AO, including 4 this year.
One was the debut for Wu Di of China, the first man from China to play in a GS MD. The last country to make a GS debut is Estonia, with Jurgen Zopp at the 2012 AO.
Just two debutant qualifiers is the lowest since AO 2011.
