Many qualifyingb draws of challengers have some byes so I don´t know why youre such annoyed

Main draw is up. Great draw for DY he better make it to the Semis at least and really should win this tourney, but he has been playing poorly recently. Sweeting has a great draw too.

Don has a good draw, but knowing the level he's been at, he'll probably lose to De Voest in R2. If he plays well a SF is very likely, and yes, he needs to win this event and stop bullshitting now. Hopefully Ryler can revenge MM for this weeks' loss and Ball is tired from this week to make his SF draw easier. Yani can even beat Don, but he's in probably even worse form.

Ryan's draw is cakewalk city. He has softballs for two rounds, and his potential QF isn't exactly too tough to tame. He should definitely make the SF at least.

The third quarter is by far the toughest, I can see several of those players making it through but I'm guessing Reynolds or Kendrick.

GL Don and Ryan!

because I think it's a waste, especially when three in a row are scheduled in the same state to make it easier for the players. But don't worry about it, its just my opinion and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Cakewalk for Sweeting? uhm..it is tougher you expect"!

I agree there mainly with Flyboy.

On the upper side of the draw: On the 1st quarter of the draw one of the semifinalists should De Voest or Young. The 2nd semifinalist should be Matosevic who played well this week or Ball. Not many misteries here.

On the bottom half of the draw :
On the fourth quarter of the draw Millman can be one of the semifinalists if he shows the tennis he has been playing lately. Sweeting has good chances too.
The 3rd quarter is really tough and Reynolds or Kendrick should be the other semifinalist but I would include Harrison on that list too.

Rain in the forecast this week, possibly until Thursday. Hopefully, it will be light, with lots of breaks so they can get some tennis in on a decent schedule and no one has to play 2 in one day.

Nielsen is really showing a good account of himself. Congrats to him, he's always seemed like a nice guy and hard worker, so it's good to see that paying off.

Great win for Don, but damn, Yani is just not fit for challengers at this time. Schedule really benefits the guys who got done today, because tomorrow I'm guessing will be used to finish the rest of the 1st round, and then some select singles matches. So some of the guys today can get two days of play and then rest on Thursday or maybe a day of rest tomorrow, whereas other guys will go 2 days or more without playing, or will be playing matches back to back every day.

So some of the guys today can get two days of play and then rest on Thursday or maybe a day of rest tomorrow, whereas other guys will go 2 days or more without playing, or will be playing matches back to back every day.

Nice win for Fredrik vs Ball...Freddie is really playing good in USA these weeks, but he needs to do so...has qualified for Stockholm ATP last year and has Chuncheon challenger a final to defend in November, needs points to not fall behind 300 in world!

Correction - Frederik reached the semis - not the final - in Chuncheon last year. But anyway, he will loose 35 points...

Sweeting ended up winning, but he is another guy struggling for form. Lemke winning is great news for Don, Lemke is a clay player. Hopefully Baker beats Amer, I 100% of the time would want Amer in any other situation, but he's too dangerous for Don. Don needs the best draw possible to win this.

Really impressive win by Harrison over Bobby Reynolds. Thought that Harrison got about the worst draw possible in this one with a possible Reynolds-Kendrick-Sweeting road to the finals (while there is no one in the top half that I thought posed much of a threat to him), so if he can keep his run going this week it will be well earned. I think we'd almost all like to see Harrison finish the year strong to set himself up for a big 2011 on the main circuit...

Very, very frustrating. All the points in these challengers are at the top, as you'd be better to have one runner up finish than three quarterfinals put together. Guys like Kendrick and Reynolds are decent enough guys and very solid players, but realistically their hopes for much success on a grander stage are well behind them. Harrison, however, is making massive strides, but really needs to gain the points to start accruing main level match experience in the next year or so if he wishes to accomplish the kinds of things in his career that he wishes to accomplish.

Hopefully Ryan will have big results in Charlottesville, Knoxville, and Champaign to finish the 2010 season...

You were right, but I don't see how you can say that "there was no way he could win the match" when they were on serve in the 3rd set. You see matches all the time where player A is constantly struggling to hold serve while player B is holding to love every game, only to see player B lose the set on one bad game or due to a poor tiebreak despite having won several more points in the set.

The Donster, doing things the hard way, I guess. He needs to win here and defend his SF & QF showings the next 2 Challengers just to not drop in the rankings, then hopefully do well enough in Champaign to crack top 100, or at least top 104, depending on the protected rankings getting into the Aussie.

Filo V.
10-23-2010, 02:07 AM
These next two events are damage control for Don, this week, and Charlottesville. If he can defend these points, he'll still only be around 40 points away from the top 100. Knoxville and Champaign are the events where he'll need SF at both, and maybe F at one of them. Or if he can win the Virginia event, that would be a major help. He had his chance to solidify a top 100 position and failed, so hopefully he puts the foot on the gas now.

Yeh ok softy.

Clearly some people like watching the boring, drab, dull players with not a whimp of personality, while knitting a lovely Cashmere Sweater and glancing over at there extensive Jane Austin collection.
Yes Marinko's a Nutcase, but isnt that what we need. Yeh he does exude confidence, has a big mouth, and gets in your face, but clearly the Tour's been crying out for character's for years! He's clearly one of the better players on tour outside the top 100 at the minute, with not only a big game but now seems finally to have his fitness right.
He's got into Donald's head before, and he will again, and for this he will beat him again, and again, and again!
That is why Donald will never make it, and the reason why Marinko will!

Now back to your knitting dear!

If he's gonna do it, it'll be now in Calabasas.

Yup, this is an event he obviously feels comfortable at and plays well in, MM has played quite a lot of tennis lately, and he should be extremely fired up even more with the points situation and the overall emotional component of the match, so a loss here would really be devastating.

MM isn't that good of a player. He's no better than Kendrick and Don beats Kendrick. So I don't see why he can't get past MM.

I'm not even knocking MM for being an asshole, it's more or less me saying how he himself presents himself as. He presents himself as an ass, as someone who is crazy, he knows his reputation, and he lives to it. He's used it and been successful in the past, but hopefully Don uses his superior game and beats MM fair and square.

10-23-2010, 02:36 AM
:) As a junior he was always a *&^%$&*%$ to the opposition, and that's why he rarely lost. He'd shake there hand, before the match, say good luck and tell them that he'd 'Chop Them', and 99% of the times he did. He'd say that with me in Doubles as well, and I'd crack up every time. He may look mentally unstable out there, but thats his stability. If he aint psycho, he aint in the match. Off the court he's fine. This is what other's cant handle, and if you can manage to win matches with your head and not your game, there's plenty of good players out there that will succumb to that!

He has to turn this shit around, but when MM broke Don immediately back after Don broke to love, that sort of made a statement like "No kid, I got your number, I want this more than you and I'm gonna take it, fuck you." I can just imagine that is what was going through his head. Don brings out the best in MM out of emotional hatred.

I think it's clear that MM obviously wants it more than Don, has gotten in his head and shaken him, and will make it his mission to not lose to Donald. That's why you don't fuck with the crazy ones, you will not live it down, they will fuck you up and laugh about it.

I can't believe Don is just going to allow this to happen again, three times in a couple of months. It really says a lot about both MM and Don that this is happening again.

There has been quite a few close games, virtually all won by MM. He's the mentally strong one, and the hungrier one. Matches like this, when you are coddled by your parents, are the ones that are a street fight, you have to dig deep and find a way, and Don doesn't have that killer instinct, MM does, and until Don gets it he's going to keep losing to MM.

According to a twitter report of the match, MM is basically playing lights out tennis. Don is his Roger Federer. He wants to kill him and Don allows him to.

Oh well, this next week off will be a reflective period for Don, he needs to recover mentally, emotionally and get his game back, or he can kiss top 100 goodbye.

Well, he's going to be ranked in the 120s now. It's going to come down to what he does in Virginia. If he can defend the points in VA, then he just needs to do well in the other two challengers. If he wins VA, then he just needs to do well in one of the other two. It's still there, but he wouldn't have been in this position, if he would have had good results during the end of the summer. He's proven to me now that he isn't even remotely mentally prepared to truly be a top 100 player, or even a tennis professional level. He's relying on talent and he has a lot of it, but this is the big leagues, and he can't handle the pressure.

Yeah, I knew it was still possible but it's Young we're talking about here, like we've said before his form from the summer is gone and I just don't see him doing it. I honestly thought he would beat Matosevic tonight after beating Delic who in my eyes was a tougher match than Marinko. At least he won't be around 200 in the rankings to start off next year, but he's going to have to get a fulltime coach cause what him and his parents are doing, just isn't cutting it!

I thought he would beat MM based on the fact he would just be better, but I also did think MM would be the mentally stronger player if it were close. This run of poor form started RIGHT WHEN he made the top 100. Now that he's out of the top 100 and not close to it anymore, he probably should be able to get back to the tennis that saw him being one of the best challenger players of the year. I expect big things from him still through the end of the year, this is his favorite time of the year. Now they are going to indoor events so I think that should help Don, he doesn't have to deal with the weather conditions, he should be more consistent now. It would be a real downer if he missed the top 100 after doing so well to jump from out of the top 200, I think the way he handles these losses to Harrison and Matosevic will decide things.

Totally agree. More importantly though if Marinko can manage to win this, which you'd have to say he has to be favourite, it will bump him up to No:2 in Australia, only behind Lleyton. When facts like that get into his crazy, crazy head, its only gonna make his game more frenetic.

I agree on all accounts. I fully expect Kendrick to win tonight and win the final. But I hope Ryan gets it done. He's as mentally weak as Don is, though, so he's going to run into the same exact problems, a veteran opponent who wants to win bad, and plays his best in California challengers.

Well he seems to be the type who plays better with more energy and when he's actually got something more than the game itself to play for, so his motivation will be high, and he'll be on an emotional high from this match. I do think Kendrick would beat him, though, since they are similar in that both are hot heads, extremely competitive, Kendrick plays his best in these events, and he's a similar player to MM but better.

Bingo. And to give all this credit to Matosevic for being "crazy" is greatly overblown in this thread as well. From what I've seen it has hurt Matosevic far more than it has helped him in his career (with Young being one of the outliers), but either way the guy simply doesn't have the game to even come close to competing week in and week out with the top flight players.

Tough loss for Ryan against Robby, but judging from the scoreboard it was a heck of a match. Great fight by Ryan in the second set to fight off BPs but he couldn't quite pull it out in the third. Good for experience, though.

Still a good week, as he just won his first challenger doubles title, with Travis Rettenmaier

Marinko's ranking progression.

2005 - 1092
2006 - 602
2007 - 621
2008 - 323
2009 - 171
After this match - Around 145 if he loses the final or 138 if he wins the final.

He only won his first challenger title a couple of months ago but yet your willing to write him off because he is 25 . Not everyone is an early bloomer. Marinko might not have the game but he has the mental capacity to make it. Two years ago people would have said he didn't have the game to make it on the challenger tour.

I am getting the point where I find it really hard to even support Ryan. For all the gifts he has, he really has basically no idea how to play tennis. I'm sure when he was up a break in the third he was spinning in some 85 MPH first serves, because you know it makes perfect sense to play that way when you are 6 foot 5 and can hit the felt off the ball :retard:

Hey Marinko Bashers! Eat Sh1t!
I've been tellin u all tourny he has the most heart than any of these guys. Down a break in the 3rd, wins! Go on, keep havin your digs! When I say Marinkos going to make it, that doesn't mean World No 1, not even top 20. 'Making it' is getting everything you can possibly get out of yourself, your game, your attitude, your FIGHT! If these equal a ranking number, then whos to say what number is considered 'Making It'. He certainly ain't the most gifted player out there, but if you don't have heart, then 'Making It' is an impossibility!

Your the Man Marinks, keep stickin it up these Heartless Yanks!!!
