In spite of #1 seeding, Gil will not be the favourite for this one, considering is on Hard, and there are good Hard players, here...

But anyway, i'm rootung for him, and Joăo Sousa if he manage to get in the list...

I really can't see Gil showing up here. he's saying all week that is tired, and he still playing SF Tarragona Challenger, witch is in Spain, a long way for Uzbekistan. I think he will pull out from this one, a play only Seul...

Filo V.

If Fred does show up here, he has a good draw to make the SF. If he doesn't, I could see Muller, Recouderc or the Uzbek Dustov making it through.

Beck has a really sweet draw for at least two rounds, and with Milos/Somdev having played a lot of tennis lately, I'm expecting big things from him in this event. Somdev should beat Raonic in R2 if they play, that is definitely a great match-up for him.

Rainer has an acceptable draw, one where he could lose early or make it to the final. Hopefully he's on his game, because defending a huge amount of points.

The third quarter is the toughest quarter, I can see several of those guys making it through to the SF. Kravchuk v Skugor is a good R1 match.

Good luck to my favorites in Tashkent!

I think AHM it's the favourite to win this thing. He just tanked this week in 2nd round Palermo, just to be fully fit for this way more important chanlenger. And it's on Hard, so he has very good chances. I Think the final will be played against Somdev.

Gil&becker

I also see Gil in the semi-final here, if he's not scheduled for something like 10AM Monday. That's about as far as I see him in this tournament, but still don't like that young-man Kusnetzov in his quarter.
If Gil gets to the semis, it's almos certainly year-end Top100.
Hope he finds a plane to travel here quickly, adapt to hardcourt, and still manage to win three matches.

Yes, this was tough week, but he prepared well for this series of challengers, had some rest before and after David cup, and IMO the worst matches are in the end of the week. Let's hope he does we'll!

Quite open draw with several players with good chances to win here.

If Karol Beck plays quite decently he can advance through to 1/4 where he would meet even Raonic or Devvarman. I wouldn`t say that Milos is the favourite on that bottom half of the draw as he is quite unexperienced yet but he has good chances to be one of the semifinalists.
Franco Skugor has a difficult first round match against Kravchuk and Ignatik in 2nd round. Possibly Dustin Brown can make the 1/4 and be a threat but everything is quite open too.

Interesting first round match for Andrey Kuznetsov but I`m not sure if he can beat Gilles Muller. I think that Gilles can be one of the semifinalists on the upper side of the draw.
On other circunstances Schuettler would be the favourite to win here. Will see what happens but Schuettler, Semjan, Andrej Martin have similar possibilities to be the other semifinalist. Not sure how Lojda and Haider Maurer can produce on this hard court event.

Hmmmmm, he's not great, but not trash. He's clearly an indoor player first and foremost, but he can get some good results on quicker outdoor hard events, and grass. He has a really soft draw here so he should do well.

Milos, tough 2nd round potential opponent, I think can win it though with his current form:)

BTW, gotta give Bye a huge :worship: for making it to the 2nd round of qualies

i dont know..somdev sems like he'd be a bad matchup for milos and on top of that he's also on great form having just helped india beat brazil in davis cup, won his second challenger title and won gold at the common wealth games for india.

I think they both have been playing alot of tennis, they both are on confidence highs but naturally i think somdev is just bad for milos.

If andrey kuznetsov is finally getting back to the form that saw him make 3 consecutive semis and 2 finals i could see him being one of the semi finalists..and i hope he is.

Obviously fatigue and yes, acclimation to the hard courts from clay, are the cause of this loss for Fred. Unfortunate result be he needed a few days off before Seoul anyway. He needs to recharge the batteries. Dustov is a good player and he's playing at home so the win for him isn't too surprising. Hopefully Muller beats him and makes the SF.

Good results for Rainer and Haider-Maurer. I really hope Rainer wins but AHM I think is the favorite. He's in hot form and the serve stats are excellent.

Sounds reasonable :) Dustin doesn't have the singles ranking to play ATP events yet, that's probably the main drive for him, but also the money in playing and winning challengers in doubles definitely is a help. He seems to enjoy doubles and I guess he wants to be a duel singles and doubles guy. If he can attain a top 100 ranking for a consistent basis I'm sure he and Rogier will start playing more ATP events together. They are in the top 100 in doubles so hopefully they can play some events together that Dustin gets in directly in singles.

Don't know if he'll be a steady top 100 player, or even higher, but AHM has an allcourt game and is doing very well this year. Beating the top seed here, in a close game, confirms that.

I fully expect a Brown-AHM final, we'll see what happens. I really want Karol to win this event, though.

AHM I don't see being consistent top 100, but I do believe he can carve out a career between 90-125 consistently. As you say his all court game, his serve and his offensive mentality are things that definitely should continue to bring him good challenger results. But off the serve, I'm not sure he does anything well enough to maintain a top 100 position. He is having a great year for sure, as he continues growing in confidence and develops his game some more in the offseason, maybe he can get himself on the ATP tour.

Rainer is not quite done yet, I mean he's still right around 100 in the rankings. He can still make some money, and he really enjoys playing the game and I know he loves traveling, he likes the grind and having to work and train. He'll never be a good ATP player again but he should be able to get good challenger results to remain in the bottom half of the top 100. As long as he can still compete he should stay around if he enjoys himself.

Muller killing service :worship:

15 aces and only 5 points lost on serve (97% of first).. 6-4 6-3

Hope he will win first Challenger since Izmir 2008.

Nice one Gilles. Courts are awfully fast here, suits him well.

Great final!!!!!! I wish both well but I need Beck to win this to get in the top 100. Muller himself if he wins this will greatly improve his chances to make the top 100 at the end of the year with zero points to defend so GL to both but go Karol!!!!!!

Yeah, but he took advantage which is what counts. Also Dustin isn't a cakewalk because he can be dangerous.

This is great to see Gilles and Karol back on a final. Both are good players with the experienced enough. Probably they will never return to play regularly ATP tournaments but both can get decent results on the Challenger tour and play some ATP tournaments. I think that both can be back to the top 70/100.

We will see 3rd set in the final

15 aces from Muller so far but very poor on second serve. He played well on break points and that keeps him in the match

2-2... Gilles is useless without at least 80% after first service

I thought although Karol served the penalty, he was absolved of any intentional wrong doing?

I like Karol because of his flat shots, the way he stands on the baseline and is machine like with the way he plays, he's a lot like a Tipsarevic-Davydenko mix and I find the way he plays very entertaining.

FWIW, Muller is also a favorite of mine, but this match I want Karol so he can be in the top 100.

He did it, he did it finally. I'm so pleased, I knew he had an easy draw, and boy did he take advantage. Great job, Karol! I'm so happy now :D

Back in the top 100 in one event, amazing.

Karol Beck on 7-5 in the 3rd. Congrats for him for his 3rd challenger title of the year. This victory is going to help him to jump to the top 100 again. Well done.

Inspite of the defeat it was a good week for Gilles too. I hope that he can get the points enough on the challengers remaining in 2010 and that he can return to ATP tournaments again. He is one of the players I like to watch too.

72% of first set won is not good enoguh for Gilles.. never was

9th Challenger win for Slovak

Ad Wim

What a chance wasted for Gilles. He will never get a shot at 50 points so easily again...

Filo V.
10-17-2010, 01:05 PM
Yeah, Gilles needs to be in the 80% range with the first serve winning points, where Beck was. Also only won 50% of second serve points and served at around 50%, not a great combo. If you have an average to below average first serve percentage, you have to make it up with an above average second serve points won ratio, especially if your serve dictates your game like it does with Muller.

Oh well, hopefully he does better this upcoming week in Korea.

It's alright though Ad Wim, Gilles really only needs two good events and he'll be top 100. He has six weeks to make things happen, I can definitely see it, especially indoors, this is an outdoors event.

Ad Wim
10-17-2010, 01:23 PM
True, but he is so up and down lately, that I don't really expect him to get to another final again. Then this was a great chance on 50 very important points, against not too good an opponent.

That isn't updated. Karol should be in the #98 range tomorrow. He's going to have like 560 something points.
