I don't expect Kamke to win here. I think Don, Reister, Sweeting, Kendrick, one of those guys. I think quite a few have chances, but Kamke to me isn't great on hard court, also he hasn't been playing well lately.

I hope Don wins and gets back in the top 100! This is a good entry list, too bad some of the top guys had to withdraw.

Don's draw is as good as it gets in a pretty difficult challenger such as this. He needs to take complete advantage. Matosevic has been playing in Asia and mostly losing so I'm not too worried about him, and outside of that Don definitely should make the SF. If Ryan loses before the SF I expect a final.

With that said, I don't expect Ryan losing before the SF here. He's rested and should be rearing to go. He has a good draw, and I expect him to beat Kendrick if they play.

On the top side, Reister has a good draw to the QF. Smyczek v Ball would be a nice 2nd round match. I expect one of those three players to make the final. I think Jesse L. will beat Van der Merwe, and hopefully Delic gives a good account of himself v Kamke.

Go Don!

That scoreline for Matosevic isn't what I wanted to see. Don better be on his game to beat MM. He was dominating the match at Aptos until he started playing horribly at the end of the first set, but he has the game to beat MM and I think he will.

yeah, Don is 0-2 against him, I think he'll win though. Yani hasn't been playing very well so MM's win shouldnt be to indicative of the match on Wednesday.

Caio_Brasil
10-05-2010, 09:49 AM
Good start from De Voest, hope he goes far here. Gregorc couldn't keep it up though, not many signs he will do any damage in the tour. That's strange because he qualified for Wimbledon last year, thought he would start growing after that. Will be probably back for São Paulo challenger next year for the third straight time, which shows he isn't progressing much.

Why can't the U.S. challengers have normal livescores like the most of the european challengers?

This has been answered a hundred times = because they do not have the resources. The USTA puts money on the tour level events, the Challengers are usually run by volunteers and it's hard to get commitments to cover the live scoring system for seven days.

This has been answered a hundred times = because they do not have the resources. The USTA puts money on the tour level events, the Challengers are usually run by volunteers and it's hard to get commitments to cover the live scoring system for seven days.

How hard is it to have a twitter feed and tweet the match scores as they finish??

Calm down flyboy.

I'm fine, but I am disappointed. Also, I'm hard on the players I support. Results like that, against someone like Matosevic, are unacceptable for Don, if he has a goal for top 100, players like MM are pretty much guys you need to beat and he can't do it. Also he has a win tournament points from last year about to drop, which would possibly end any chance of him making the top 100 this year. So these are crucial moments, and he failed miserably this week.

He has 1 W, 1 S, and 1 Q result dropping from his total in the next few wks, Calabasas, Charlottesville, & Knoxville, respectively, for a total of 125 pts. He lost 1st rd at Tiburon last yr so that's an opportunity to gain pts. He also has the Champaign Challenger at the end of the yr, which he didn't play last year, another opportunity to add pts before the end of the yr. I'd say he's in good position to crack the top 100 by year's end, if he plays well.

Not surprising result for me, for some reason Matosevic gets in Young's head. Perhaps once he beats him he'll get confidence? Either way he needs to make at least Semis in Tiburon and Calabasas IMO to remain in contention.

Let's go Ryan! If he wins this event he'll be right around the top 100 himself. Hopefully both the youngsters he and Don can make it in there. The top half of the draw is weak so this is a good opportunity for Ryan or Robert to take this title.

Filo V.
10-07-2010, 12:48 PM

He lost 1st rd at Tiburon last yr so that's an opportunity to gain pts. I'd say he's in good position to crack the top 100 by year's end, if he plays well.

Your last four words are the key, though. If he plays well. This time of season is usually his best, but for some reason he's been struggling, possibly if not likely due to the flu he had. He needs to pick it up, immediately. He has basically three events (Tiburon, Knoxville, Champaign) where he can gain points. He'll need to take advantage, and then try to defend as much as possible in the other two events.

I really hope the pressure of top 100 status isn't getting to Donald. Ever since he made it back in the top 100 is when he starting struggling. That will be the one thing going forward that could damage his chances.

Filo V.
10-07-2010, 12:52 PM
Not surprising result for me, for some reason Matosevic gets in Young's head. Perhaps once he beats him he'll get confidence? Either way he needs to make at least Semis in Tiburon and Calabasas IMO to remain in contention.

Definitely mental, no I'm not surprised either. He had a big lead in their match in Indian Wells and lost, and then had a lead in Aptos and lost. So there probably was a carry-over effect to yesterday. It's still a horrible loss. There is literally no reason he should lose to Matosevic. I agree, winning once against him will get him over the hump.

Anyway, I agree, he needs to make at least the SF at both events, or make the final/win and QF at both events. He can no longer afford early losses. We all know Don is a confidence guy, hopefully that isn't being damaged with these losses.

I guess that explains DY's tweet after he lost to Matosevic. As far as I know his biggest accomplishment is winning Aptos, or whatever Challenger he won.

Yeah, he called MM a prick. Don was way ahead of their match in Indian Wells and lost in a third set tiebreak, I don't think he's recovered from that. MM is basically an asshole on court so...............I'm not surprised Don has issues with him. But he'll need to use that in a positive way and not let it get to him on court.

The Don needs to get over it. Matosevic knows that he isn't a clone of Federer or Nadal but he knows the mindgames work on the Don so why wouldn't he use them? He does have expenses to pay for and he doesn't get any handouts from Tennis Australia plus I don't think he has a sponsor. If The Don wasn't so weak minded and learnt how to ignore him he would fare a lot better against Matosevic. Obviously the fact that after three heated losses to Matosevic, the Don goes on twitter and still complains about it probably shows why a guy of his ability is ranked where he is and not higher.

I think De Voest-Kendrick can go either way, but I expect Kendrick to overpower De Voest. These hard court California challengers are Kendrick's playground, always does well here. I expect a victory.

I think the Mailman will win the other SF.

Great week for Millman and this points earned this week are going to be really helpful for him as he is going to be ranked in the top 200. yeah... hoping for the big W here for millman... there are an awful lot of skillful aussies that just seem to hit the roof at 250-150... but i'm hoping he can bust through that ceiling comfortably... he never seems to puts a lot of easy wins together, but again is never beaten easy either, so i'm kinda hoping he falls into that bracket of aussies that are tough enough to hang around and show some promise, then go on to fully mature a bit later...
