The field it's not that strong, (maybe Pippo is the mains threat here, but Gil beat home player Potito, laste year) so I think Gil got a very good chance to defende his 90 points here.

He need it badly, to keep his top100 spot at the end of the season. After that, almost none points to defend, IMO.

Hopefully the final is Fred v Simone, with Simone winning. So they can both have top 100 positions. This is Simone's opportunity to get in the top 100 and he needs to take it. He needs to take it. Also, I better not see a WC given to Starace, Seppi or Fognini. They need to stick to ATP events.

According to Fabio's official site he has a WC for Napoli. I would like a Simone-Fabio final :)

Well, I don't mind too much if Fabio plays this, but I still def want Simone to win this. I always enjoy watching Fabio in these Italian challengers, and he is more in need of points than Poto or Andy.

As long as he doesn't defeat Simone or Gil, it's all good. Good luck in Napoli, Fabio.

Are you kidding me. First of all, why does Potito always play these Italian challengers when he is ranked 50? It's so ridiculous. He is such a Italian challenger slut. Pippo, Simone and Fabio are all in the same half. Simone is playing Ungur, who he might lose to. This tournament has devastation written all over it.

Pippo has a nice draw and really should make the SF.

Schukin should be tired from playing in Trnava, so Gil has a good draw to make the SFs.

Fabio and Simone being in the same half is just scary. Simone NEEDS to win this event. He better be on point from the beginning.

I wonder if Andujar plays this or withdraws late.

If Potito wins or Fabio beats Simone, I will be emotionally distressed. PLEASE SIMONE, LETS GO, TAKE THIS CHALLENGER!

Great! We are fans of a lot of the same players, you have good taste :) Seeing Simone and Fabio being in the same quarter was literally the worst moment I've had today. I love Fabio but Simone needs this one. Hopefully they both win their matches and can put on an entertaining QF for the Italian crowd.

Are you FUCKING kidding? Potito? Really? A top50 player taking points out of top100 pretenders? In A 42,5k challenger? OMFG! I only have to theories for this one. Eihter he was very well paid ( and I really don't believe in this one) or he just wants to revenge Fred for last year loss, in the final.

Sudddenly, this tournament just got harder for Gil, but I hope Gil teach a lesson to this italian points stealer, just like de did last year.

VAMOS GIL!

Interesting upper side of the draw: I think the potential Starace-Andujar clash will fall to the Italian side as Pablo has been playing a lot although Pablo has been playing really good tennis lately. There`s an interesting 1st round clash between Haider Mauder-Schukin to watch. The other semifinalist will fall over Gil- Schukin or Lorenzi side.

Over the down side of the draw Fognini should be the other finalist. Under my opinion his tennis is one step above the challenger level.

He obviously has a problem with his shoulder. It started in the match against Phau in Bucharest. Probably he played too much recently and he sustained an injury. I hope nothing too bad as he needs to go to Palermo to defend his title there.

What a poof Mr. Crivoi is! To have this Croatian mental calamity on the hook, to dominate him in emphatic style and to serve being 6-7 6-1 2-1 up......now Veic is back on serve at 2-2 and clash suspended till tomorrow due to darkness ( it seems that there are just primal age candles in Napoli at 7 pm). Now mentally distracted Veic will have enough time in his disposal to cool down and to pool himself together. Just whatever.

I'm here, I'm watching Del Potro and Pippo at the same time so not 100% focused on Pippo. He's not playing that well and he seems sort of..............tired. But he keeps breaking serve, so if he can just hold once, I expect him to continue breaking. I'm not concerned, yet.

Obviously this loss for Pippo is inexcusable, devastating, and an embarrassment in front of the home Italian fans. Sektic is a good talent, but these are the losses that prevent Pippo from making his way up through the rankings. A SF was a given with the draw he had. Extremely disappointing, but he did seem a bit physically unwell, and I think a good rest will be productive for him heading into next week in Palermo.

Veic is destroying Sektic, which shows me Pippo had some time of issues to lose to that quality of player. He looked tired, which is likely from the very long match in Bucharest with Granollers. Hopefully he recovers for Palermo next week.

I've seen Oscar a few times in the past two or so months, and it's clear he's in a much better place than he was early in the year. He took a break of a few weeks and has come back playing a better with better results. This scoreline over a tough player in Munoz is really a positive sign. His game is still there, so it's his body/mind that need to get back to the level they were previous, and he seems to be making steps in that direction.

it is clear that munoz de la nava tanked after they scheduled his first round wedsnday with a starace second round...probably fixing it with his friend oscar
if you watch the players' results this year, it is clear why munoz let his friend go further in this 42.500 euros tournament....

I'm really disgusted with Fred. Horrible perfomance, no confidence, no heart and worst of all, no game for AHM. Is serve was awful, and AHM was on fire today. Although Gil manage to beat Karlovic last year in Miami, Fred is always a player that cannot handle big servers.

Anyway congrats to Andreas, really the better player today. I hope he win the whole thing.

Filo V.
09-30-2010, 02:13 PM
Gil will still be top 100 even after losing today. He doesn't have a huge amount to defend so two good events through the rest of the year should see him in the top 100 at the end of the year. Today he was weak, looked defeated with his attitude, and was overpowered. AHM is starting to really raise his level. He's always had some game, but the confidence from the US Open seems to have extended itself. Hopefully he continues to grow as a player.

The racist won today. Terrible result for tennis and life.

Also Dustov defeating Crugnola. Bad missed opportunity for Marco. He seems unable to string wins together.

How many times has Pashanski retired from a match when he was about to lose?

Congrats for Fabio. He was the favourite to win beforehand so it is not a surprise to see him raising the trophy. I hope to be able to see him in Buenos Aires this week.

Good week for Boris inspite of the defeat. It was his best performance in more than two years.

Fabio didn't even really play well or hard but still won the match. Boris was hurting clearly by the end there, I don't wish injuries on anyone, but all I have to say is, karma is a bitch.

But glad Fabio got another tournament victory in front of the Italian fans. Hope he has good Copa Petrobas series results.
