Loving the entry list. Nice to see Chucho on an entry list again. Falla coming here instead of playing indoors on his favorite surface, must be worried that ranking is about to slide in the wrong direction. I expect him to lose early here. Van Der Merwe on clay sounds interesting.

Daniel is the favorite for the title.

Indoor is not Falla's favourite surface, more outdoor hard and grass. But good to see him also playing challengers to work on his ranking. He is too up and down on ATP-tour to make a solid ranking.
Bit much to travel to Asia in the week after, but apparently those Colombians love playing in their home country.

True, I meant hard court in general but you are absolutely right. He's better on hard than he is on clay, is what I should have said. But it is a smart decision for him to play this challenger and obviously the home crowd advantage should help him, guess he decided to head here after the Davis Cup and hopefully get some easy points. As you say, he's too inconsistent and not quite at the level to play only ATP events and keep a good ranking but he definitely is better than most challenger players.

He's defending over 200 points through the end of the year, those Cincinnati points he got a few weeks ago were very helpful for him, but he'll still need some decent results to keep in the top 100 by the end of the season.

Too bad Chucho still seems injured. Been a nightmare 12 months for him. Hopefully he comes back when he's completely ready, because I'm sure he'll tear the challenger tour up.

Falla being out is understandable, pressure is on him now to do well indoors to keep his top 100 position.

With these eliminations from the event, the huge favorite to me is Daniel. We all know his history in Colombian challengers. Salamanca should also have a good event here.

I'm surprised not to see any mention of Farah as a potential title contender. He won the previous challenger in Bogota so obviously likes the conditions, the surface and he'll have home support. He is also still an unknown quantity to many players so should retain the element of surprise that 'new' (or 'reborn' in Farah's case) players to the tour often use to their advantage.

Filo V.
09-16-2010, 05:48 PM
Farah is a definite favorite for the title, but he is a little bit overhyped right now, he's not yet someone who you can or should put over established challenger players like Daniel or Salamanca, who have great results in Colombia. But I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see him win this event.

How you are arguing about Robert Farah, let's increase the discussion...

Directly from the Official website of the tournament...

http://www.copapetrobrasdetenis.com.br/admin/imagens_upload/int_RFarah1.jpg

Without incluing goals in his results, to avoid unnecessary pressure, the Colombian player Robert Farah, appears as one of the favorites to win the Colombian stage of Petrobras Cup, which begins this weekend at Club Los Lagartos.

The talented player born in Cali, 23 years ago, makes an exceptional season in which he has achieved a true record. Farah went back to professional tennis in the middle of this year, starting no ranking (last of the ATP, appears in the 1763 position) and after winning a future in June, in Venezuela, was placed 758. From that time, he did not stop climbing.

Farah, who suspended her career to study economy in the United States, which was No. 1 in college tennis, returned to the professional circuit and after a series of good results since jumped from 758 to 206 today, and he doesn't want to stop for there:

"I hope to move forward, but I prefer to go game by game, without putting pressure on me. I have now an excellent opportunity in the Petrobras Cup to put me among the 200th first in the world and thus, go further and go straight to the big tournaments," said the player who is known for his physical and mental strength.

The surprising local tennis player is sponsored by Colsanitas, a private company that decided to bet on tennis and also supported Alejandro Falla and Santiago Giraldo, two other prominent Colombian players.

Farah also integrates the Colombian team that faces the U.S. A. in Davis Cup playoffs and his dream is to place his country in the First Division of this important competition.

"It's not an easy task to confront the United States, which has great players, but it isn't impossible to achieve a win playing at home. We are well prepared and Falla, Giraldo, Salamanca, and I... we are going through a good moment," he said.

Farah, who is graduated in economy, has as his idols Roger Federer and Russian Marat Safin, who quit professional tennis last year.

The seventh stop of the Petrobras Cup in Colombia distributes a $ 75,000 prize and the champion adds 90 points for the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP.

Alejo vs Feijo

Reaching the semifinals in BH was really good for Guidolin, now he can play another challenger. As Diego is still making small steps in his comeback, another win isn't out of question.

This should be an interesting tournament. Daniel trying to win at Bogot again, Decoud back to challengers after beating everyone in futures, Farah trying to prove himself again.

Good that Eldio qualified, and now the Copa Petrobras is officially started.

Copa Petrobas season, my favorite time of year, so exciting, the fall south american clay court season is ON. Looking at the draw, I see no reason why Daniel will not win this event. Farah if he makes the QF will be a difficult hurdle. The bottom quarter is good also, and the final potentially someone like Salamanca or Decoud. But I expect him to win this because this is Colombia, he's taken some weeks off, he should be fresh, fit and rearing to go.

New moment for Guidolin, he wins another challenger match after that semifinal last week. Still it's terrible to see Hartfield struggling with a retirement again. Dutra da Silva also won his 6th consecutive match.

Great and surprising win for Gomez over Bagnis, then Daniel had a nice start at his "hometown".

Personally I'm very happy with Souza's win, really hope he goes far this week which is much needed for him to get some confidence back. Real test in the R2 against Hocevar, he lost to his friend last week in BH.

The two missing matches are scheduled for tomorrow.

Close loss for Rogrio.

Now Marcos has the chance to revenge the loss he had in Campos do Jordo against Izak. He was mad as hell in that match and will probably want this very much. Similar conditions with the altitude, but it being played in a clay court favours the Brazilian.

Good luck especially to Feijo tomorrow.

ivn, if Merwe play with Daniel today he will lose because two ago Farah play 2 hours with Merwe and yesterday Dutra Silva play 2 hours and 30 minutes with Merwe.

I dont think that Merwe have resistence to win of Daniel on 3 Sets on Colombia!

To Merwe win only if he play tomorrow.

And remenbering that Daniel is the "KING OF COLOMBIA" because he won much Challengers on this country.

Marcos losing to Souza in Colombia tells me his career is almost over. Marcos always has beaten the younger challenger Brazilians. And he always wins in Colombia. He's a shadow of himself. If he doesn't win Cali, I do not have high hopes for him entering the top 100 at the end of the season.

Daniel didn't play that bad flyboy, it's just that Joo was the better player. It's a positive week among many worst ones Marcos had this year, so he should be happy.

They are both playing doubles semis right now by the way, 5-7 3-4 against S/Ferreiro.

That's true, but Joao is a better player than Marcos now, which is why he played better. They are somewhat similar players, but Joao is younger, fresher, moves way better and has more service consistency. Marcos was decent but ultimately, Souza showed his level was higher. But then again, to me Souza should be in the top 100. So hopefully they both can have good finishes to the season.

That is a great SF doubles match! Wish I could see it on video :(

I agree with Caio this time. If you have the time you should try to watch Souza. The guy plays really well and probably his weakest area is that he is not consistent along the match. But if he can improve over that department and if he can start playing a more aggresive game and be more confidence on himself he can easily be a top 100 player.

Backhand 1 hand is better for nice winner with much speed.

But have backhands two hands that are incridible like Nalbandian and backhand 1 hand like Wawrinka that is incridible too.

Is two types to choose.

I prefer backhand 1 hand but if i want to play tennis i will prefer use backhand 2 hands because is more easy to not make unfforced mistakes!

I've seen Souza a lot, I know he's a good player. Powerful serve, powerful forehand. Decent forward ability, weak mental and wavering confidence. I've seen Souza for a while, he's been on the scene and I always thought he would be a top 100 player for sure. He's definitely got the shots, just not the consistency.

But he's having a great event here and is the huge favorite for the title with all of the goings on in the SF match.

In a tennis player perspective, he seems a little big. It's not as if he's fat, but he does seem a little thicker than most tennis players, especially top players.
