Djokovic beat Murray

...6-2 in a practice set today at the Open. Toyed with him pretty much the whole time.

Murray started to serve better in the second set. Which they cut short and ended with a tiebreak.

Novak was hitting the ball very well. Like his best stuff from that Roger match this summer, minus all the bone-headed errors. He'll need to play well to survive his horror of a draw.

Murray must be shaking in his boots. Next.

Indeed. Must be devastated that he only straightsetted Djoko the last 3 times they met, two of which were masters finals ............. but in the big one, the practice slam, he flopped. Must have been the pressure.

Ok losers, give the guy some credit. At least he's there and he watched live practise between top players, unlike you.

It's good to hear Djokovic is hitting the ball well (hope he improved his serve as well), I want him and Murray in the final at USO...and as far as I remember we had a pool here on MTF on who is a better player overall from the two and Djokovic won so stop underrating him based on his currect form.

Thanks. :yeah:

Always enjoy hearing tidbits from practices.

And glad to know Nole seems to be playing better.

Interesting, but it likely will mean nothing. Remember when Dabul beat Nadal 7-5 in a practice set at RG? And how Youzhny is basically unbeatable in practice sets

Novak. :yeah: Yeah it was just a practice set though. Still, it's the form that counts.

just shows what pressure does to novak's game; as far as murray is concerned, i read he _hates_ losing (even practice sessions).

That might be true or maybe not. I mean, he's been under pressure since he was 19 years old!
But what I take from this practice session (we know the score means nothing) is that Novak is hitting the ball well again like he did at times against Federer (a match he should have won, it would have made wonders for his confidence). He's getting his form again, slowly but surely. I hope the heat doesn't get to him like it did before.

Uhm.. I like him, yes, but it's not like I'm a huge fan.

Plus, I say the same about Nadal, and I'm a fan of him, have been for 7 years now. I still don't think he'll win USO. Does that make me a bad fan? Maybe, but at least I'm honest and realistic, unlike certain other fans on MTF..

Well fair enough, but saying Djokovic won't win another slam is something else, I'm no where near a fan of him but I have no doubt he'll win a few more.

That settles it, then. Djokovic will win the USO at a canter.

I didn't say he'll never win a slam. I just said I don't think he'll win USO this year. But who knows, I may be wrong. It's not impossible.. I mean, he has a bigger chance to win the title than Nadal, but that doesn't say much either. It'll probably end up being Federer again, with guys like Murray, Roddick, Soderling, Berdych and maybe even Nalbandian as contenders for the title. And yes, you can't completely rule out Djokovic, though as I said I don't think he'll win it this year.

I hope the heat doesn't get to him like it did before.

I hope Djoker can handle the heat better but his asthma might get the better of him again. Others have problems too.He and Murray were wilting in the heat at Cincinnati.

Murray fanboy Simon Reed said today:
I think Murray is just about the fittest guy on the tour but one thing he doesn't enjoy is playing in intense heat - Murray supporters really don't want to see him getting involved in a couple of back-to-back matches when it is 35 degrees. He tends to make some poor choices when it is really hot.

Not this week, he hasn't been. I've only seen him play against Russian guys I couldn't even recognize, but he's been so distressed by his form that today he totally destroyed a racket and then chucked it out of the court and over the fence of the grounds. This was out by Court 16. It's weird because usually he practices with Lopez, Baghdatis, Kohlschreiber, etc...good players. I don't think Youzhny is expecting a deep run here.

Back to the point of this thread- no shit the Djokovic/Murray practice was a practice. But there is still a certain level of caring by the players. You don't want your serve to be that off, ever, as it was for Andy. But it's not remotely likely that Andy and Nole will play at this US Open anyway, so...

I still remember watching Djokovic crush Roddick 6-2 in a practice set at the '07 USO, and Roddick was majorly pissed off during that one. At the time, Novak had beaten Roddick recently in Canada and soon after went on to reach his first Slam final. It was a telling sign of form. It's also nice to see two of the more relevant contenders hitting the week before a Slam. Berdych and Federer played a practice set a couple of days ago. No idea who won it as I avoided Federer all week. He attracts too many little brats with big yellow balls, and is typically boring in practices. At least Novak knows how to entertain a crowd.

Oh wait I forgot that I also saw Youzhny hit against Hewitt. He was playing terribly and over-hitting every other ball.

Of course practice doesn't mean anything. He found his form as he went through the tournament - to an extent, it was still far from TopGunMisha - and he was fortunate when Berdych and Murray lost and his draw opened up. I think if he was playing that way against the Berdych of RG/W 2010, he woulda been out in the R16.
