Noam still trucking at 32.

This result isn't that surprising if you think about it. I expect a lot of bashing on Tomic, though.

I don't know why people still talk about this Tomic.

okay he's good, he's young, he has all what's needed to be a champion I think, but he has achieved nothing as far, so it's useless opening discussions about a boy who loses in qualies.

let him play futures and challenger, then we'll talk about him if he climbs the rankings

Someday this thread may be bumped, after Tomic has proven himself as a force on the ATP tour. Those that are laughing at him now will be proved well and truly wrong. I'd like to see that day. I really would.

Not so shocked that Tomic lost, but to Okun is

Okun has done NOTHING. All year. He's been horrifying. But great win for the Israeli

After beating Ilhan, I didn't expect him to lose to Okun. Even after the second set I fully expected him to come through quite easily.

I didn't open this thread about Tomic's loss, but about Noam's win. :D

I agree with you but I think that Tomic needs to spend some time on the challenger tour. He is too unexperienced yet.

when you take into account what total crap ilhan has been plaiyng like since wimbledon and then the fact that he still lost a set to him this loss isnt actually that suprising at all.

it was a huge mistake for bernard to come into this event with no serious hard court preparation at all and think he could do well

Tomic beat Ilhan with his serve and slicing short to Ilhan's forehand. Which his coach kept telling him to do after each point. Ilhan didn't have enough time for his big swing on that side. Plus Ilhan looks completely lost on court right now. Okun chipped the returns into play and gave Tomic no pace. Tomic would either miss or Okun would get into net and put away the volley.

When will Tomic actually start doing anything?

which makes it that much worse that he even lost a set to ilhan. I like marsel but he has had no form at all since wimbledon and his confidence is shot.

he's 17. I dont like him at all but he's still very young, lets give him a while before we condem him.

But Okun hasn't done anything in ages. It's even mind-boggling how he got into the QD in the first place. Plus you have to consider that Ilhan has performed better at Grand Slams than Challengers, irrespective of current form. The set loss against Ilhan doesn't signify a great deal either, because Tomic isn't known for solidity of mind and straightforward victories anyway.

He's still very young. It's rare for players his age to be dominant. I have no doubt in my mind that Tomic will be big. Maybe not as big as he has been hyped up to be, but a solid Top 50 player for sure.

Israelis who were at the match said Noam played great, but that Tomic showed a lot of potential, whatever that means.

Noam hasn't qualified for the open in 4 years, I really hope he can do that. May be his only chance.
