This is about the only way they will ever play each other.

When is the last time they've played each other (in an non-exo)?

Madrid final.

Anyway, I'm desperate to go! Respect to both of them as well especially since it's in the middle of the holiday/training offseason.

First time they had met since the same tournament in 2009. And Rafa vs. Rog (or anyone else for that matter) on the clay isn't exactly a nail biter.

Looks like they probably won't meet again until AO at the earliest and probably not until 2011 clay season (unless Nadal surprises us at the US Open. Because we all know neither Nadal nor Federer will be making the finals of the TMC or the remaining 1000 events).

You don't have to pay attention to the match if you don't want to but for people in the German speaking countries such a match, even if it is only a showmatch, is something special as you probably will never get to see Roger and Rafa playing together at a tournament in Germany, Switzerland or Austria.

It is a nice gesture that they take their time so shortly before Christmas to do this event.

Wether you like them or not this is definitely the best tennis match you can see in almost the last 10 years.
It's great to see that despite all the rumours, fan clashes and other bullsh*t both guys simply respect each other as tennis players and more important, as person.
The gesture of playing each other for such a cause only makes their legacy even bigger :worship::worship:

According to Swiss media the match was sold out within a few minutes. Even faster as an additional concert of U2 in 2001.

Apparently they could have sold that many tickets that even the huge Maracana Stadion in Rio de Janeiro wouldn't have been big enough.

There are no official statements from IMG or the agency where you could get the tickets.

Original source: http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/zuerich/region/FedererNadal-im-Hallenstadion-Spiel-innert-Minuten-ausverkauft/story/10049256

Tickets are meanwhile offered of course for a very high price on the internet, for example here http://www.ricardo.ch/search/search.asp?txtSearch=federer%20nadal&Catg=1&InTitleAndDesc=1&Zip=&ZipRange=0&txtPrixMin=&txtPrixMax=&ListingType=0

is this the best decision for the two of them? I know it's for Charity, so what will the level of tennis be? They have 5 weeks off before next season. Federer is getting old. Rafa just had to take a whole bunch of time off to rest an injured shoulder.

I don't think they are going to risk anything. They won't take the matches as serious as surely some people on MTF will do ;)

Roger said the following about the promo clip and the match during an interview on Swiss TV:

There will be another performance from you in Switzerland at the "Match for Africa" which is going to take place on December 21st in the Hallenstadion in Zürich. It will be a supermatch for the Federer Foundation against Rafael Nadal. You both tried to announce this event.

One can see which relationship you have - the two big rivals, Federer and Nadal who get along.

Yes, we get along very well. Of course we have a huge rivalry on the court but off court it is the same as with other players. I don't know whether we have a friendship. We seldom have dinner together but our relationship is really good. The funny thing at this promotion we did was that they said "Ok, it only takes 5 minutes. They are here now and have time so we are doing it quickly. It won't be any problem" and I knew that it wouldn't work as we aren't that easy. I collapsed with laughter when I heard his accent, it was so hot in there and the people said you have to say this and that and we both couldn't remember anymore what we had to say even though it had been that simple.
I'm really looking forward that this match happens with the support of Credit Suisse and all other sponsors. It's really a huge organisation of one evening and therefore I waited a few years to do it. I'm really happy that the event is sold out and would like to thank the Swiss TV for their support and promotion. I'm glad that Rafa has time and appears without getting any fee. That's really great of him.

The hall is sold out but we will show the match on SF 2. What can the people expect from you? Will you play with microphones and make jokes or will there be a tough fight?

No, we won't play with microphones. You wouldn't like to hear the groaning in the whole arena for 2 hours. I think the people want to see something serious between us. Of course there will be showelements and other athletes are going to appear but in the end we are going to play each other as good as it gets at the end of the season. We will deliver a good match and it has to be seen who will win. Even though we already made a deal regarding the first set. It will surely be a great evening.

this is just AWESOME, so I can watch the Zurich one as well :D

have fun at Zurich, Doris, is Karin going as well?

Yes, Karin is going with me :) I bet when she would have known that they are going to do such an exho in Madrid she would have probably would like to go with you - a true Fedal and not someone like me :p ;)

For those who want to give a bit more money to the foundations of the players:

There will be a special T-shirt available for the Zürich match:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs355.ash2/63503_177637845598783_149011445128090_505641_15418 67_n.jpg

Unfortunately at the moment you can only get it at NIKE shops in Switzerland.

According to Rafa's homepage the following is planned for Madrid:

A PIECE OF HISTORY

12 19 2010, Madrid

For the first time ever, we want to give you the chance to take home with you a very special memory you will remember for ever...a piece of the court where the ‘Joining Forces for the Benefit of Children’ charity match will be played on.

Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer are set to play against each other on Wednesday 22nd of December at the ‘Caja Magica’ in a match where there will be no loser, but instead, multiple winners: Kids, the main focus of the Rafa Nadal Foundation.

The match will be played on a fast hard-court, which later will be cut into pieces to be sold to fans. Each of these pieces will be framed in a box and signed by Rafa Nadal, the founder of the Foundation that bears his name.

The objective of this souvenir is to continue to raise funds for the benefit of children. Don’t miss your chance to help other kids and take home with you a piece of tennis history!
You can buy your piece through the Rafa Nadal Foundation link below:

THANK YOU EVERYONE!
