Busy crowded day at the US Open today. Lots of action. Nadal looked much sharper. F-Lo still in his summer malaise. Ryan Harrison scores a dramatic comeback win. Jerzy Janowicz and Bernard Tomic score big wins. Photos of Berankis and Nadal in practice...

In your estimation (I read your tennis-prose link), is Tomic the Qualifier noone wants to play in the First Round? Which Qualifier impressed you the most?

I hope Soderling draws Tomic, what a contrasted matchup.

I am wondering if I should be concerned if Tomic will be The Qualifier for Nalby in the First Round. ;) A Soda match would be fun too; although I hope Soda gets an easier Qualifier.

I personally hope Tomic draws Boredo in the First Round. Boredo can make rising young stars look very good.

Thanks.

But calling Machado a veteran is funny.

And Harrison resorting to underhand serves  Wow. It's a three-set match too. Wouldn't want to see him in a fourth or fifth set should he make the main draw

Nobly; Tomic looked very mature, consistent, intelligent, big serve, mixes up all his shots, but a questionable net game. He looks bigger and stronger now too. But to be honest, there are many other players I did not get to see. Tomic and Harrison but Janowicz has a serious weapon with that serve. Berankis is a nice player too.

Janowicz indeed has a big serve, which is a major asset on this surface. He is, however, extremely unpredictable and his backhand is substandard. I also don't quite agree with your assessment of his movement - I find him gangly and rather awkward - but he might have improved.

But he finds himself in quite an easy section in which any player could make it through (besides Janowicz it's Haider-Maurer, Cipolla, Muñoz-De la Nava).

Quick question to anyone that can answer: On practice day on this sunday (the 29th), would it be realistic to see any top twenty players and get pictures or autographs? My brother is expecting to see at least one top twenty player, and I don't want him to be disappointed :P Also, anyone know how much parking at the Open costs? Thanks in advance :)

You can see players practice on Sunday, it's a good day to go. Parking might actually be free, not sure. If not free it's $15. I park on other side of GCP anyway though, just walk over the bridge and under train tracks. Take 111th st exxit and try to park around 42nd street around 111th st. in that area. Plenty of spots.

Enjoy before the HUGE crowds come in on Monday,,
