Hope it's the half with Rafa this year...

The U.S. Open first round is split over three days. So even if some of Rafa's half plays Monday, he might not necessarily play Monday.

I would like Daniel Brands to start first please.

It doesn't necessary mean you have an advantage starting first at US Open. If you start first then you will play your Super Saturday SF second. It is tough which one is better.

Night matches on center court, first week: featuring Mardy Fish, Andy Roddick, Venus Williams, Melanie Oudin, Maria Sharapova, and maybe, maybe, m...a..y..b..e if the organizers are kind enough, someone named Roger Federer along the way.

Take that bitches.

We all know it.

Am I right in thinking the #1 seed always plays the second semi on Super Saturday?

That would mean Federer would play first semi like he did in 2008 when he was #2 seed.

The first semi is usually the players who played first throughout the week

UNLESS
1 An American player asks to play first to get more rest (Agassi did one year)
2 CBS want a specific match on second

In 2008, Nadal's half played first throughout the week but was the second SF anyway.

Judio post above says that you're wrong. Seems like the half that starts on Monday will play their semifinal first... How did you comy Foxy with an idea that it is opposite? It is more logic that you play first on Super Saturday if you started your tournament earlier...

the whole USO is screwed up from the super saturday semis and final the very next day.scheduling is awful.
the circus trophy presentation.
the awful commentary by enberg and carillo constantly talking during the points.

I think Federer was originally scheduled to play the first SF but Rafa asked to swap.

Are you sure?

In 2007 Federer started on day 1 but he played his semifinal against Davydenko second. Djokovic vs Ferrer (#2 seed's half) had the first semi.

What has always happenend recently is this

Top American man is scheduled to play TWICE over the Holiday weekend

So Roddick will play Saturday and Monday

This translates to the following

Roddicks Half
1.Monday or Tuesday
2.Thursday
3.Saturday
4.Monday

Other Half
1.Tuesday or Wednesday
2.Friday
3.Sunday
4.Tuesday

With Roddick himself playing his second round on the wednesday evening session.

Whatever happens, the organisers will ensure that Nadal's half will play their SF last to make sure that Federer remains super fresh for the final for sure, no?

Nobody seems to have a definitive answer to this, unlike Wimbledon which has a set tradition of the defending champion opening - and this year, with no defending champion playing, the choice went to the winner of the year before that. So, I suppose we have to wait for the OOP coming out to get an answer.

^^^I guess we will have to wait for the OOP. I came into the thread hoping someone knew already.

I hope Isner will play in Wednesday...

So he didn't pull out? How'd I miss that? I thought he had a tendon...thing?

If Roddick loses early, how ridiculous that would be.

No, he must last long enough to play Nole. Revenge.

I respectfully disagree with Judio. Foxy is correct. The top half starts first on all rounds except the semis when the bottom half plays first. It's USO's dumb idea of equalizing both halfs.

For example,

2007 - Roger(No: 1, Top Half) Rafa(No: 2, Bottom Half) : Roger played all his rounds before Rafa except the semis when it was reversed. Ferrer played Djoko first (ferrer beat rafa) followed by roger v Davydenko.

2008 - - Rafa(No: 1, Top Half) Roger(No: 2, Bottom Half) : Rafa played all his rounds before Roger except the semis when it was reversed. Roger palyed Novak first in the semis. Because the forecast was for thunderstorms later in the day, Rafa v Murray started on the adjoining court after Novak won set 2 against Roger ensuring the match will go to atleast 4 sets.

2009 - Roger(No: 1, Top Half) Rafa(No: 2, Bottom Half) : Again Roger went first in all rounds except the semis when rafa v Delpo was first followed by Roger v Novak. Now the commentators say that Rafa requested to play first but I believe even if he had not requested the pattern would have been the same.

So this year, Rafa will play first except the semis when he will go second.

So I'd say it's a good bet his half of the draw will play first.
