Fed is just beginning to peak again so not much of a contest. Murray is slam choker, Djoko hates heat and guys like Berdych and Söderling are already burned out for the season to have any big impact. Rafa is maybe second favourite if he can play more aggerssively and win 3-0 few first rounds.

+1 :yeah: :D

Del Potro winning last year was a wonderful ray of light amidst the oppressive reign of 2 players the past 7 years (20 of past 22 slams!). Anyone else prepared to step up and fill Del Pony's shoes? Doubtful, but we can dream, can't we?

With these advanced "programs" nowadays designed to keep the elite at the top forever in many individualistic sports (they have rather large Corporate organizations backing them up; including propaganda divisions designed to sell the stale product), I'm not even sure age will be a factor in ending this oppressive reign of predictability and boredom. If Lance can win the TdF 7 straight times from his late twenties to mid thirties, then I'm sure the inevitable age of "retirement" for Tennis stars can be greatly increased too.

I'm hoping Lance's downfall will set a precedent for all the major individualistic sports. Lance had the best "program" with Dr. Ferrari and the "omerta" (silence won by power and threats). When odds to win a major event which should be extremely unpredictable over 2 - 3 weeks are 2:1 or even lower year after year after year, then something is extremely wrong with the sport.

Before the draw I thought it was between Federer and Murray, and I'm sticking to that.

These are the most favourable conditions out of the 4 Slams for both of them, setting them above the rest.

Murray's draw is far from easy, but if uses the full range of his game (varying speeds, slice, approaches etc) he should be too crafty for Wawrinka, Querrey/Almagro...gets him through to QF. Isner would be tough, but he usually plays the tall guys well. Obviously we're expecting Berdych to be his opponent, though...yeah, potential upset there. But assuming he survives, at worst it will be Gulbis, Nadal or Nalbandian in the SF. He should outlast Nalbandian, but Nadal over a distance match is a lot tougher. However, he has cleverly disposed of him in their key hard court encounters, and there is no reason why he can't do that again in 2 weeks time.

As for Federer...he should sail into R4. Yeah, it is unwise to underestimate Hewitt, especially as he lives for the big matches like these...but he has had poor preparation for the US Open and is possibly a step slower than he was 12 months ago. Melzer would be a possible threat in R4, but I'd be surprised if it is anything more than that. QF with Soderling would obviously be interesting. Soderling has been a disappointment really since the French Open (even the manner of his Wimbledon defeat to Nadal disappointed me tbh)...still lacking conviction when it ultimately matters and against a good Federer that is asking for trouble. SF should be fine, with the biggest threat coming from Fish/Roddick imo. Honestly wouldn't shock me if Fish gets that far (go Mardy! :yeah: ).

I can see why some people are rooting for Nadal, though. His draw is a joke...unlikely to be really threatened until at least the QF. But the odds are still against him winning overall.

Should be a Murray/Federer final, and despite the head-to-head I have to side with Federer. Murray should beat him over 5 sets one day but I have to see it to believe it when the match itself is a Slam final.

My two to watch are Gulbis and Fish.
