Poll: Who is the fastest player in the ATP top 100?

Esentially, who would win a 100M sprint between these stallions?

Rafael Nadal would have to be among the top seeds. Roger Federer in his prime would not embarass himself either.

I would have to go with Monfils. He seems to laterally cover the court very well, retrieving everything.

Speed is a very important part of the game, modern or past. When serve and volley was at it's peak obviously you needed a certain ammount of speed to get to the net to charge and volley the return.

Sideways speed (lateral) and sprinting to the net of course are different kinds of speeds, although generally when going sideways you tend to sprint the same motion.

Taking into account tennis players seldom sprint further than 15 meters it would be difficult to tell who would win a longer sprint, but thats just the fun way of figuring it out. The question is who is the quickest on his feet on the ATP tour?

I would vouch for Baghdatis.

why is roddick, del potro and dent here? i know roddick and del potro can play good defense too but don't you think players like ferrer, simon or robredo are much more of a natural runner compare to them? for the question, it's monfils definitely. it's pretty obvious actually.

lol at the poll

though interesting subject

"Who will win a 100m race"? who cares? important is who wins a 20m race

and it should be Nishikori

Rafa is rightly there, Monfils is fast as well. But Pony, Muzza, Nalbi and Dent? Would never think about those as fast players

U can add Mahut, Simon, Davydenko, Ferrer, Monaco, a younger Lleyton, Benneteau, Serra, a younger Oli Rochus, Fognini, Sela...but Pony?

I don't think Nole would embarass himself either. ;)

According to my observation the difference between Monfils and Nadal is distinctive: to the same ball which Monfils hits with pathetic hopeless split and lands on his ass with clownish smile, Nadal catches it and plays winning passing-shot with enough energy saved to make his fist-pump celebration :)

Very solid argument for sure.

Big difference between tennis quickness and raw speed on a stop watch. I'd take monfils on the stop watch, and nadals quickness on a tennis court. Federer's speed/quickness is underestimated too.

I'm certain Monfils is quicker, but the difference is Nadal will get to the ball on such a way that allows him to play it.

Taylor Dent :o

Yeah, maybe they're equally fast, but Nadal has better anticipation, positioning, & footwork.

Rafa isn't even in the top 5. Only Murray, Djokovic and Monfils actually belong on this poll. Roger and Rafa are fast but much more quick that pure speed, with good anticipation and reactions.

Murray going forward

Somdev Devvarman deserves to be shortlisted - he is lightning quick around the court. His top 100 ranking has a lot to do with his footspeed as his groundstrokes are far from overwhelming.

Monfils, Nadal, Murray & Ferrer.

Those are the top 4 fastest runners in the sport at the moment.

Somdev certainly is quick, and I was going to bring up his name, but I think his speed is overrated. He accelerates well, he's agile, but I think he's just OK speed. He really is the ultimate grinder/get the most out of your talent type of player around.

It's my opinion, based on what I've seen from all of these guys who I've seen play numerous times. I can name 5 players easily as fast and faster compared to Rafa and Roger.
