awesome shotmaking from both, the way Kolya saved the two first MP was absolutely brilliant, Roger's BH held remarkably well and his serve was pretty damn good except for that break in the second set ;)

Fedal at the US Open Series is just around the corner :hearts:

Fed did a great job capitalizing on the key points in the 1st set. And yeah...the shot making, as always with Davy (or usually ), was impressive.

Nice to see Kolya back in this kind of form. And good performance overall by Rog.

Davydenko saving his absolute best tennis for the first 3 MPs. Epic.

The first set was quality from both until the last game. Second set was a little more up and down.

It wouldn't be a Federer match these days without going up a break in the 2nd and then losing it.

Otherwise, Federer was in business mode tonight.

Kolya needs more time to get back to his best form.

Kolya  Not a bad scoreline and a solid tournament...keep it up.

Halfway to a Roger-Rafa semi?

Best match in the tourney by far, Davy back in something you could call form!!

Nice cluth from Fed after being broken and wasting many bp.s at the end to close it out in str8s!!

Some excellent shots by the both players, this was indeed fun to watch.
Roger played clever on important points not giving much angles to Davydenko.
It should be strange to see him play 1/2 final vs Nadal.

I was really hoping for a davy win here but at the same time i cant be to upset

davy did a hell of alot better then i expected. He made it competitive and didnt get blown away

perhaps the win over ferrer and this match here are the signs that davy is finally truly coming back

Very good effort from Davydenko considering last 5 months since wrist injury and only winning about 8 matches, but on his way back.

A routine performance from the GOAT - Davy was actually hitting very well and Roger had to be sharp to come away victorious. Cincy seems to be Rog's favorite MS nowadays LOL.

Davy's shotmaking can be brilliant at times but ultimately this is irrelevant. His game always breaks down at the crucial moments - break points, serving to stay in the set, etc. You can have all the shots and courtspeed in the world, but if you have pea-sized testicles you will never win a major. I have seen several matches between these two, and usually they follow a similar pattern (London 2009 excepted), with Davy competing well but choking at the crucial moment.

No doubt his wrist injury has been a setback, but for me the severity of his meltdown against Fed at the AO, and the psychological impact of this, was the end of Davydenko as a major contender in the top echelons of the game.

Federer won't win the USO.

Okay. Who will? Brands?

Nice win for Rog . But in all these matches his balls are somehow short and in almost every exchange his opponent has the chance to take initiative and against every in form hitter he will be in problems . On the other side the biggest improvement in Roger's game is return . maybe a year or even longer he was really struggling to put some balls back in the court and now he is capable to return majority of balls like in good old days . Serve is good though

Right. But let past the opportunity to :worship: a zing against Rafael, never.

 I had forgotten all about this match. Roger has gotten a bit of payback against Tomas and Davy. Wished it could have been one of my faves today. A little surprised it was as decent a scoreline as it was for Davydenko. I expected Roger to totally hammer him. So, potentially Rafa/Roger tomorrow? Oh man. I guess that H2H is going to 14-8. Oh, well.

Btw, Sabrina, the match results thread isn't only for the player that won.

When Roger lost the MPs and Davy went on to hold I had a feeling it was going to end up like Fed's match against Baghdatis in IW this year :o Thankfully not. Wasn't quite 'old Fed,' too many UEs, but I was impressed that he still managed to win in straights, almost every game was a struggle. Some lovely shots from Davy, especially that one to save the second MP :worship:

Well, I don't want to see a murder, that's for sure. But, a tennis match will do nicely, thank you.

Was a very high quality match IMO,that BH Kolja hit to save the second MP was out of this world.Overall both of them weren't afraid to step in the court and rip it,was low percentage tennis at its best, very fun to watch.

Great match, how hard court tennis should be played :yeah: Roger was serving well, but I was really amazed at his aggressive returning. I'm liking the new Fed, and even if he blows leads and makes UE, he has the right strategic mindset and that will eventually pay dividends.

Looks all right from the highlights, though some embarrassing net approaches by Fed. Don't know why people expected a beatdown: Fed hardly ever thrashes Davydenko.

Well played by Davy - especially on the match points. I'm happy to see him have his first good tournament since coming back from injury.

Fed played a good match too, but I'm a little perplexed as to why Federer chose to come to the net so often without hitting a decent approach shot.

Thank you, but there are a lot of Spaniards who think more or less the same as me. Like all fan bases, we've got our share of overeager fangirls and idiots, but trouble is on MTF many of us are on the defensive against the incredible amount of hate, direspect and derision that Nadal gets from so many posters.

When an 18 year-old comes out of the blue and storms one of the majors, winning 31 matches on a row and 4 titles... but when he loses his 32nd (!!) match, the reaction by a load of people on MTF is not 'end of an incredible run', but actually includes people taking names like Piggy-got-roasted... you get the sense of what I'm talking about.

I do. Unfortunately Nadal's fans also include a lot of trollish Federer-haters & bitter Pete-o-philes, & unfair though it is, these people exacerbate the displeasure many people already feel when Nadal wins.

I respect Nadal's achievements & off the court I think he is a decent person, but I am never going to be a fan of his game or on-court demeanour & I will always root against him. I do however try to give credit where it's due, & I shall probably miss him when he's gone.
