The announcers just confirmed on ESPN, in the ankle. He does not rule out the US Open but its much less liktly now. He is undergoing intense treatment but it may not be enough.

I heard that too. His tweets yesterday sounding like it was just a little inconvenience, but sad to hear it's worse than expected.

Ligament damage = a sprain. Should be fully healed unless its a complete tear, which it didnt look like to me.

John is far from my favorite player to watch, but he seems like an awfully nice guy. I hope he heals well.

Could this have something to do with the unending match with Mahut? He probably came out of it with several months of physical wear added.

That's never good to hear.

Be well, Viper

Who knows? Has the poor young man head's laid on his own pillow for an entire week since Wimbledon?

Bad news.

Are you trying to be funny?

That is bad news and I feel for John if he has to miss NY. He is having a great year so far and to miss out on the biggest slam of the year would be very disappointing. Hopefully he'll be able to recover in time, because he's got a shot to do some damage.

Get well big man!!! Hopefully we'll see you in NYC.

This is what scares me most about these big guys. It's so easy to have these nagging injuries when you're that damn heavy. Hope big john can get over this soon. Was disappointed to see he's not taping his ankles as standard procedure. He should really start taping them every time he plays.

The human body just isn't natural at 6'9 r bigger. Little injuries are constant for huge guys. Hopefull he will never get a real serious injury like Yao Ming

Yikes, yeah the one Ming got almost sounded career-threatening, which is disappointing because he was too a good nba player.

He shouldn't have let that match go for so long with Mahut. Now his tennis career is ruined.

Hopefully he'll get a Wednesday start. There's only a small group of 1st round men's matches on Wendesday, though, and they schedule it so that it's always a section (I think the eighth?) with a big star, probably Roddick, Nadal, or Fed. So John would probably have to be in a section with one of these guys to get that extra day.

True. Fish lost 30 and roddick lost 15. Are tennis players mostly fat? This is an embarresment to the sport.

I can't tell anything from his tweets because he said the injury was alright, then it was worse than he thought, then he had a really good day and felt better about his chances. Best of luck to him, it'll be disappointing if he can't play

a big excuze for a big shit, all he's doing is tealing Llodra's seed. he will give up like in first set at about 0-3 pointless....
