I think this is a very cool match to watch.
Nadal is Nadal.
But Nadal in hardcourts is not so Nadal.

Rafa in 3...not a good matchup for Marcos

Depends on where Rafa is at physically and how he feels with his game. He's the favorite, but he certainly is second best when it comes to present form.

If Baggy plays the way he did today I can see him getting a set.

Rafa in 3.

Rafa is playing awful, but i still believe that he will improve tomorrow. It will be very very hard, but again the #1 will provide. Rafa in 3!:worship:

I don't see why Marcos hasn't had more success against Nadal. He has an excellent Nalbandian-ish backhand, forehand is smooth, solid serve and great feel/hands. I know much of his issue is mental, but still, he doesn't really have anything Nadal can truly attack.

RAFAEL NADAL [1] in 3, it will be interesting to watch

The way the two are playing I think Baghdatis has a good shot.

Nadal will win. Baghdatis serves too many 2nd serves.

have seen you consistently bet against Rafa every time and more often than not he prevails. This time you are picking him and that makes me nervous :)

It's because he's not consistent enough on serve or with his FH when he gets the chance to attack. If he's hitting it well, he causes problems for anyone, but he'll invariably make a string of errors and get behind in the set. If he serves anything better than 50% in a match then it's a bonus, and serving at 50% is almost never enough to defeat Nadal. On top of all this, Nadal does a good job of moving Baghdatis around and tiring him out since Baggy will back away from an aggressive FH chance since he's missed some already. When Marcos is hitting it well and getting some serves in, he causes problems for Nadal, but there will inevitably come a time when he'll miss a bunch of serves and/or miss a bunch of FH's/BH's.

I was wondering the same thing. Their h2h is something like 1-5 Nadal.

No clue.

Would be huge for Marcos, though.

In fact it's 6-0, and none of them was on clay: 5 hard (of which 1 indoor), 1 grass.

Which is clearly a mental issue as I said o.O

Rafa will win but it wont be pretty. I dont know why Rafa is playing this tournament anyway. his style is way to physical on the unforgiving hardcourts of north america. he should be taking breaks in between tournaments.

Fit player vs fat player. Add to that, the fat player also has a brain of a shrimp. Of course the fit player is going to win.

Some of it's mental, but it's just his game. He goes for too much on his 1st serve and doesn't wind up getting enough of them in. He'll get them in at 133, 134, and so on, but if you're going to give Nadal a chance to look at a bunch of second serves and start off rallies at neutral, it will be very tough beating Nadal because he is relentless and will not let go of any games. Nadal does a good enough job moving Marcos with the CC FH and Marcos eventually tires at the end of the rallies. A perfect example is when the first played in IW. Marcos would get a big serve in and then finish the point, but then he would miss a serve, get in a rally and either hit a wonderful shot to take over a point, or hit an error or wear down in the rally. They played a 5 or 6 deuce game with Marcos serving at 0-5 in the second set and Nadal just wouldn't let go of the game. Marcos would win easy points and then lose a rally and then make an error, then hit a big serve, and so on. Eventually, Nadal wears him down.

Marcos would oftentimes be better off playing a little away from the lines and then coming to net or looking to finish with the next FH, but this isn't how he plays against anyone so if you're going to miss a lot of those against Nadal and miss a lot of 1st serves and wind up having to rally against him, you're probably going to lose because Nadal is too good at that.

Rafa should win this, but just not sure if it will be in 2 or in 3.

I expect Baggy to put up a good fight though. :p
