:worship: Great tennis from Marcos. Broke at 5-5 in the first and early in the 2nd. Faces Nadal/Benneteau in the quarterfinals.

Berdych's right knee/calve was apparently bothering him. He wasnt being the classiest guy with Marcos today, laughing at him while Marcos argued with the chair.

Cant wait to see Marcos in the USO. Hope he withdraws from New Haven next week.

Glad to see Birdman loose

That's probably the best I've seen Baghdatis play for years, he made Berdych's shots look like nothing. :speakles:

Marcos :D

Hope he brings it to the Open this year.

Berdych went down by the same scoreline Cilic did, with Marcos putting up equally low first serve %s.

:worship: Well done Bags. Should be an interesting match against Rafa

Baggy! Great performance today! :D He almost ended the match on another break, but then held on to win it after Birdman saved 2 mps.

Please skip New Haven, Baggy. Don't exhaust yourself as you did before the AO.

Marcos will likely beat Rafa.

Marcos will beat Rafa.

I seriously hope so

bad performance by Berdych, hoping that his pains won't compromise his US Open

Some good tennis from Baggy at last :D

If he serves a bit more consistently (45% 1st serve is low) he is definitely in the top 10 soon.

If Baghdatis plays like this he should do well against Rafa, however to beat Rafa he'll need to increase that 1st serve % no doubt.

Marcos will beat Rafa.

Certainly one of his best chances but Rafa leads the H2H 6-0 and has lost 3 sets

What a scalp for Baggers! Shades of AO 2006 there. The real question is whether he can sustain it into the next round. I fear not if his first serve percentage does not improve.

It's an unfortunate loss for Berdych, he was outplayed today whether he had a slight calf injury or not. But I hope he can shake off whatever is bothering him physically in time for the US Open.

Baghdatis played well. Should win his next match if he can get a bit over 50% of his first serves in.

Wow, you people weren't kidding about that Baggy 1st serve %!

This is a huge win for Baghdatis. Nice to see him put up a nice result like this, especially over a player like Berdych. He'll need good form against Rafa, despite Rafa not at his very best right now. If Baghdatis can put together great results like this for the rest of the year, I don't see why he can't make a push for the top 10 at some point.

Baggy's 1st serve percentage has been a black cloud for him his whole career. Always around 50.

Marcos played so well. Nothing else to say. Was by far the better player on the day.

Marcos can afford serving at lower percentages because he wins most points on the first serve and he backs up the second serve well. Guys like Lleyton and Marcos and Murray can use the first serve as a way to get free points and not have to enter protracted rallies. And they have the movement to defend if they are attacked off the second serve.

Baggy is like Fish where it seems he plays better the lower his 1st serve % is  Glad he's playing well off the ground again, anyone who can hit Berdych off the court has some serious firepower :yeah:

Get that 41% 1st serve to 60% and you're game. Otherwise it will be too tight and I see Marcos wasting a few chances before Nadal capitalizes and wins the match.

Baggy :yeah:
I really don't like Berdych's attitude . Laughing at Marcos, trying to throw him off by calling the score, and being a diva when Marcos was taking a while to serve

Berdych has become pretty arrogant lately. It won't last since his top 10 ranking will be gone soon

Yeah, I spoke rashly, will have to back and edit.

Nadal will probably turn up or turn it up now, and Baghdatis has folded from a strong poistion against him before. (He's also lost soundly to him.)

I like both players but it would be good to see Marcos continue to come back. He should ditch New Haven though.

Hard to believe it, but Baghdatis' abdominal region is almost toned. Akin to Nalby showing signs of a six-pack that isn't alcoholic.

Good stuff :yeah:
it's better for Rafa anyway, it's much better to face Baggy than Berdych right now

Congrats to Baggy

Yeah. But the winners to unforced errors ratio is worth a look too.

Marcos can be such a dynamic player when he's present.

That's the 2nd set I think.

He's been having awful troubles with the first serve lately though, often way down in the 40s. Against Cilic it was 3%.

7/8 net points won is worth noting. He should come to the net more often.
29-20 winners to UEs is a good ratio against a player like Berdych. This summer vacations did miracles for Marcos obviously :D
