Good.

Odd Andy is Odd.

His backhand looked great, and he was rushing net pretty often. Netplay won today. What an odd Andy. He's yet to try and pull the trigger on shots (his usual play nowadays), and de Bakker made a lot of mistakes at bad times, but consistency won obviously. Can't believe Andy went to the net so many times and succeeded.

...Odd.

Good from Andy. De Bakker hit one of the worst overheads I've seen, tactically concerned

andy was 11/22 i think at the net, so it wasnt that effective. de bakker made key mistakes as usual, i really thought he could have won this one.
really notable at 1-1 0-15 on de bakker's serve he has a sitter lob that barely lands over the net and he misses the smash wide... very poor and the only time andy broke him

Roddick owns de Bakker. 7 sets played and all seven won. I hope for thiemo, their next meeting will be on gravel

Thanks poo!

Aside from constant heckling of Roddick whether he's up or down....this was a crappy match. I think a commentator said "You'll rarely see two worse points played in professional tennis". That's pretty accurate and also a microcosm of this match. For those who didn't see -- de Bakker missed the easiest smash in the history of the world and then Andy non nonchalantly fluffed a routine forehand into the net.

If there's anything to be said about this match, it's that here are two players who are not ready for the big stage; both for different reasons: Andy for some reason would rather lose to a qualifier than play aggressive tennis and Timo hasn't figured out how to adapt his game to the big leagues yet.

It wasn't a good match for either guy, it's not anything that either one can build off of. Timo will know he played an out of form Roddick and Andy will have got through a match just as he has got through every match since winning Maimi...serving and putting balls in play.

I give this match three rolling eyes...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Wow, this was truly a HORRIBLE match. Both players just retrieving without any intention of constructing points or play aggressive tennis. Disgrace really, although I really doubt if either of them can play any better at the moment. Roddick has absolutely no chance against Soderling if he continues like this. Really shocking to see what Roddick has become.

I'm surprised Roddick was making as many forays to the net as he did. What's even more suprising is that he coped quite well apart from the instances where De Bakker went for a strong passing shot on his backhand side.

I am really waiting for Thiemo to crank out big wins. He's progressed a lot, but it's time to upset some big guns.

I think a commentator said "You'll rarely see two worse points played in professional tennis".

Sometime in the first set de Bakker went for a backhand down the line winner. The commentator (I don't know why his name escapes me at the moment) said something to the effect that he should wait for a better ball to try it on, even if it takes 20+ balls to get the short ball because Andy isn't going to hurt him, so he can just be patient and wait.

Then he said, "Ya, its boring, but that's what we're watching".

A silence followed. :haha:
