Davy still needs a lot more matches. Ginepri couldn't deliver the weight of ball to really stress his timing though, which is pretty way off when pace comes his way.

Surely it would have been time for Davy to retire had he lost this match. I hope he can get his shit together by the Open.

davy looked p[retty good here, hit some great shots and it was easily his best match since his comeback

i really hope he gets things together soon and can get the win tommorrow. It would be great for his confidence to beat ferrer tommorrow and win 2 matches in a row for once.

This was Ginepri's to take but he is just in amazingly bad form. Yikes. He needs some hard work and good coaching...

Nikolay played decently, he's not nearly the same player he was a few months ago, but he did serve well. Robby just isn't that good anymore. Major backhand issues, and his movement and serve lack a spark. It's like he's playing injured. I can see why Robby isn't in the top 100. Ferrer I think should beat Davydenko but who knows. Congrats to the Russian on the win.

i keep sayig davy will get his way back to form eventually but i also keep waiting for it to happen. He needs to pick up points somewhere so that when hie points from the wtf come off he wont drop as far down the rankings.

I think he'll do better starting indoors.

At least Ginepri is close to top 100 again with this win, i hope he can win some matches at the Us Open.

Robby could make a R3 or so in New York, what he needs to do is play the challengers after the Open to get back into form. With as horrible as he has been for the better part of 3 seasons, a lot due to injuries and a lot due to no confidence, the fact he's basically stayed in and around the top 100 that entire time is a pretty big accomplishment.

Shanghai too

yeah

shangai+us open+wtf = 2480 points

so if he cant defend he has to make sure he gets as close to how he did last year as possible to minimize the point loss from the US open and Shangai atleast

Kolya was pretty consistent and aggressive throughout this match. Robby was broken in the very first game of the match in part because Kolya was ready to go for the angles using massive pace, and open up the court, and he rarely missed when he got on a roll. Robby wasn't serving particularly well, and any unforced errors he made in his service games only compounded the problem and made it that much easier for Kolya to break him.

Crucial points made all the difference... Robby had three break points in the third set, where he could've evened out the match, but he failed each time. He also had multiple game points that he just couldn't convert on either, as this screencap shows... It's actually not uncommon for Robby to lose the match on his own serve, even when he's reached game point.
