Cincy R1: Hewitt def. Lu 6-4 4-0 RET

Weird match and Lu got jobbed by the trainer. He was having problems with the lower back and called for the trainer at 5-3 but the chair ump wanted him to wait until the next changeover. I'm not completely sure if he was denied treatment at the end of the set, but then at 3-0 Hewitt in the second set, Lu wanted an injury timeout but was denied (even though he was promised it) because it was right before Lleyton's serve. Lu called a medical TO at 4-0, while arguing with the physio while he was treating him. Played one point and still couldn't move, and retired

Hewitt looked solid though

Lu got jobbed. Dumbass trainer wouldn't allow him a medical timeout.
 at Hewitt staring down Lu and shouting "C'mon!!!!" when Lu could hardly move.

Yea Lu got screwed and was understandably pissed about it, complaining to the umpire several times. Either way, Hewitt looks pretty sharp. Who does he play next?

Trainer sucked more.

I edited the original post...but he had lower back problems and I think he was just frustrated with the situation

Back injury. Lu looked really pissed off.

Lu didn't move too well in that second set. His gripe was that the trainer apparently told him after the first set that they'd take an injury time out at the next change over, but when the change over came Hewitt was set to serve next so the trainer said that he was going to wait for another game and Lu found this to be ridiculous as he was in pain and struggling to move.

Lleyton moved so much better out there today. He hit the ball well and seemed pumped up. His serve was also vastly improved. Hopefully the body pulls up well from this match so he can give Soderling a run, though I still reckon Lleyton will be too rusty to win it.

Hewitt is such an asshole. At 30-15 3-0, after Lu argued a bit with chair after getting screwed, Lu plays a great rally, barely able to move. Hewitt wins, the stare down, and that horrifying COME ONNNNNNNNNNN he does. What a douchebag.

I think he was a bit peeved that after stalling his service game midway through to have words with the umpire, Lu didn't bother to raise his hand in aknowledgement before receiving the next serve. It's common courtesy after causing a delay to aknowledge the opponent.

Who is the umpire?

Not sure.. I recognise the face but his name escapes me. I could hear him saying things like 'I understand your point but he's a medical professional and it's his call' at the end of the change over and "I agree with you, but we're in the middle of a game. We can talk about this after" during the game.

Lu called the supervisor out but he didn't seem to say much at all.

Was it Jake Garner? I too recognised the face, but I'm not too sure of the name.

Sounds like typical flat-track bully shit from Hewitt.

There's barely a peep out of him when he's getting schooled by a decent player.

Lu delayed play with his consent whinging, I mean he argued uselessly at the umpire for a couple of minutes at 30-15, it's got to affect Lleyton's focus and rhythm, there are two people on the court you know. But no, because its Lleyton it makes him a bad person that he's trying to keep the momentum going. I think you're the douchebag

Seriously! Hewitt screaming like he was making an amazing comeback when he was getting points off Lu's injury was ridiculous and embarrassing. Maybe he didn't understand what was going on, but still. Lu got totally shafted. Poor guy. He was very respectable, even in his arguments, wasn't screaming or cussing like some other guys would.

Someone needs to grow a pair

No need to worry - Hewitt is playing Soderling in the next round, and will lose 3 and 3.

Then he'll get as far as the 3R - maximum - at the USO and get killed in straight sets.

Same shtick for years - total irrelevancy.

And is anyone surprised by this? Hewitt should have gotten the Brydan Klein treatment (http://in.reuters.com/article/idINIndia-40923220090709) for what he said during that Blake match a few years back at the USO.

Not just a douchebag - a racist douchebag.

That said, can't mention Brydan without mentioning that he's the hottest fucker ever - racism or not :inlove::hearts::hearts::kiss:

Hmmn. Appears that the trainer and umpire both owe Lu an apology. It's amazing how hard people work to avoid admitting wrongdoing. Good job Rendy for giving them the business and still being respectful:yeah: (Rendy, babe that's true class :worship:). That way it's harder for them to justify treating him so unfairly. Shame on them.

that aussie trainer is a racist scumbag of the highest order.
who the f**k is he to tell a player when and when not to get a medical timeout?
the trainer is there to just give the treatment, not to judge when a player can get treatment, that job is upto the chair umpire.

that aussie trainer should be fired and investigated.
he should never be a trainer for a tennis match ever again.

absolutely disgusting racism.
if it was me, i would have punched the trainer's lights out straight after the match.

racism in tennis should have zero tolerence.
and that was the definition of racism by that disgusting trainer.
i hope lu filed a complaint with the ATP to get rid of that racist trainer.

i dont care what country the trainer is from, the trainer has no power to deny treatment to a player, only the chair umpire has that power.

i hope the federer/nadal/djokovic players council gets rid of that trainer.
he didnt want to give treatment to lu even after the 1st set finished, thats when ur supposed to get treatment.

i cant believe this hasnt been made a big deal out of in this forum.
i think its a very big deal.
i stand strong against any racism.and it wasnt a coincidence that an asian guy was the victim here.

those kind of things have no place in sports, i wonder how everyone would feel if it happened to rafa. there would be outrage.
but since its lu, its almost like who cares about asians.

shows that certain types of people have a problem with players from asia and spain doing well in tennis.
that elitist nature is still there.

WarriorA
08-19-2010, 04:31 AM
There's certainly an expectation by the trainers about how a player should act while injured. Anyone who's watched Lu knows he doesn't limp around and pout when he's hurt. They were obviously making judgments about his character, possibly trying to avert gamesmanship. The way he handled the situation clearly answers whether or not that was true.

That was the funny part. Lu kept saying "I not trying to break your rhythm" and Hewitt had a look on his face like "Could give a fuck mate. Would you please shut up already".

I saw nothing wrong with what Hewitt did at all in any part of this. He's just a professional tennis player trying to win his match and move on.

Also, I think Hewitt was struggling to understand what the heck Lu was saying. I watched it twice, and all I heard was about 'breaking your rhythm'. Who is to say that that trainer simply had a miscommunication with Lu? Seriously people, Lu's Enlgish isn't that good, it happens.

Erm, so I watched this and I don't understand why Hewitt is getting criticised. I believe that Lu was genuinely injured, and that he was treated unfairly by the trainer and the umpire, but the point where Hewitt did his "come on" was a long rally. Hewitt didn't make Lu move around much, so he was just standing there whacking several good shots from side to side, that could have been winners if Hewitt didn't have such good defence. It's the kind of point that Hewitt always gets fired up about, when he wins it despite having to defend the whole time.

Anyway, I'm not Lleyton's biggest fan and I find any players that "come on" a lot the time kind of obnoxious. But I don't see what Hewitt did wrong here. He was just playing his own game, which involves getting all fired about about surviving several blows and then winning the point. For all Hewitt knew, Lu was just trying to get in his head, so he's not going to stop playing his game if the other guy is still across the court, trying to beat him.
