A little blip when ernests was up 5-2 in the 2nd and was broken by a double fault serving for it but he got the win

twice in the 2nd set donald went 30-0 up on serve and was broken, the second time was by a double fault and he went down 1-4

Gulbis was up 5-1 in 2nd before serving it out at 5-4.

Expected a bit less of a fight here but the result seemed never in doubt

Young can win a few Challengers in his career , but never gets an Atp tournament.

Good fight by DY though. Gulbis served better than Young throughout the match until the break by DY, so the percentages are close, but for most of the match Gulbis was serving better.

maybe DY needs new coach?

donald has work to do for sure

he was 30-0 up and broken both times

when he was down 1-34 he double faulted on break point..i think he double faulted on break point twice actually

Where did he see 10-8? it was 7-5 in the tie-break :)

Gulbis won the tiebreak to 5, not to 8.

I'm just relieved he won. Should be a good match against Melzer.

Just glad he managed to win. Not his best performance obviously but he won.. Supposedly the line calls were horrible. That's tough for a player who plays the lines as closely as Ernests.

Ernests is a great player, I like the way he plays and wont be surprised if he cracks the top 10 next year.

understandable logic from someone with your favorite players. Gulbis will get no close to top 10 at all.

or so you say, he's got a great shot at top 10 if he can sort some things out

Ernests is learning to win when things are seemingly not in his favour, little crowd support, bad calls etc. To me thats encouraging, and indicates some improvements mentally. He still needs work focusing on closing out matches more ruthlessly when in a commanding position as he was today at 5-1.

Saying Falla or Fognini won't make the top 10 is one thing but how could we say that a guy like Gulbis can't do it? He has the potential that Fognini for instance has not, so very unpredictable.

Anyway, he takes Mulzer tomorrow and we won't see him once again, no stream and hawk eye on court 3 :(

Donald Young just sucks

I wish Donald would respond to my tweet. I told him to get his ass out of the country and play some actual talent instead of these bum losers in Amercian challengers all year long. He can definitely compete when you see his scorelines, so someone needs to pimp slap and wake him up. He seems to be religious so maybe a bible instead.

He did post this though on twitter so at least I got some emotion out of him.

I think that Young was offered some years ago to reach for a while the Spanish Tennis Academy, the best in the world it seems, and he refused...

Young did well to keep the score close  If he draws someone outside of the top 50 at the USO, he has a chance of winning his 1st rd

When Gulbis is on, he has a top 10 game. I'd like to see him make some noise this week.

Speaking of DY and tweets:

Funny how Jason Goodall and Robbie Koenig can commentate on me, when I look then up their career high rankings are in the 260's lol cmon...

Oh forgot one of then has no ATP match wins and the other 5. Buddy please please just stop. I was higher than you when I was 18.! Just stop!

Would love to see the guy succeed, but this is the kinda thing he needs to avoid...especially after a loss. Silence them and show them what you're about with your play

Goodall and Koenig are sharp analysts, you don't have to be champion to scrutize technique.
Wished tennistv would have streamed court 3 today and heard what they could have said about his game.
With his comments on twitter, Young is full of himself, like a 15 years old who thinks he is the king of tennis and no one is experienced enough to comment his game.

lol, donald young is all talk and hot air. Frankly, it would be kind of scary to see his ego and personality if he ever made it big. I like him where he is now, and that's playing robbie kendrick on the iowa corn fields.
