Jack Sock wins the prestigious Kalamazoo title. He now gets a wild card into the US Open to go along with his big title

Jack Sock turns 18 next month.

Is he the future of American tennis?

In my opinion, the future of American is the 1992 birth year in general. It has awesome depth.

Ryan Harrison, Andrea Collarini, Denis Kudla, Jordan Cox, Jack Sock, Evan King, Bob van Overbeek, Mitchell Frank, and Daniel Kosakowski, among others.

Good job, Jack. If he gets a RRH/Berlocq/Andreev/Riba type player, a win isn't out of the question.

And more of them are taking the Isner approach of going to college before turning pro. Obviously not Harrison, but more will play college tennis 1st now.

well, college tennis is better than doing the Dimitrov way and lose in the 1st round of ATP tournaments while getting WC after WC, they get more match practice and are more mature going into the tour

Kudla and Cox have also turned pro, but it does seem like more are going the college route than in years past. Alex Domijan, Rhyne Williams, and Chase Buchanan all seemed likely to go pro at one point in time but ultimately decided to go to college. Jack Sock is likely to follow in their footsteps unless he blows up over the next year.

Jack Sock will likely go to Texas. van Overbeek already plays for Florida.

Indeed...they may lose a couple years in their full-time pro careers but the benefits are plenty.

Kosakowski increasingly seems like one to watch. Harrison, Cox, Kudla, Collarini, and Kosakowski form the top tier of the '92s in my mind. I'm not sold on Van Overbeek yet, despite the great tournament. King and Junior Ore are a couple guys who could be solid after a few years of college.

Edit: I forgot Sock, who's definitely in the top tier, just behind Harrison.

Where is Sock? I would include him in the best tier.

Very clutch all week. This guy is solid. Great tennis player. He is either going to Texas, Nebraska, or going pro. Hope he goes to school

Oh, absolutely. Complete oversight. I would only rank Harrison over him, and not by a whole lot.

I won a $500 gift card to Tennis Warehouse for my tennis predictions, who else on here has done that? Exactly. So don't question my knowledge

How recently did you play him?

Did you really win $500 from TW? What was the contest? Figure I would have seen that.

Played him about 4 years ago. Yeah, I won the Roland Garros draw contest for the tennis channel in 2008.
