I saw this match with Nalbandian in Toronto :o Not all of it , just bits of both sets (I wander a lot :p ).

He hits so hard, and is so fast

He is a lot smaller than I'd expected, he's not bigger than Ferrero.

But he was impressive, just made some errors, and David is playing very very well.

I hope to see TOmmy again next year in Montreal, where hopefully he'll get a little further :)

I took a decent pic, I'll post it osme day.

Layla
08-02-2002, 08:04 PM
Yeah, he's incredibly fast. I saw his match with Haas (the two Tommies battling it out) in Hamburg on TV and was really impressed. He ran down EVERY ball, even the most impossible ones. I expect great things from him.

Tommy..... get some grip on your play please :( What I've seen of you in Rotterdam on Wednesday (the practising) was so horrible.. He couldn't even get easy balls in.. :( :( It's good you're still in the doubles tourney, though :)

~EMiLiTA~
02-20-2004, 11:25 AM
Can you please explain a bit more? I'm a bit worried by what you're saying!!! Why was he so bad? Do you think he looked bored/frustrated? Because that's what someone else noticed in Rotterdam

CooCooCachoo
02-20-2004, 01:44 PM
He wasn't bored, but he was frustrated for sure. He threw his racket away quite a few times. It was probably nothing more than an off-day, and it was good that he didn't have to play ;) He still won his doubles match the day after, so.. I don't think it's something you should worry about, as long as he doesn't have those days regularly ;)

Why does Tommy have to meet Alex so soon? [I know why... ]

yes...it's quite a bad loss for him...

hola
03-14-2004, 08:07 PM
TommyRgirl: He began the year so good. And now he is a little bit down. Sometimes I have the feeling that he has some competition with Nadal and wants to be better than he, and makes more pressure himself. Perhaps I am not right, but I think that Tommy doesn't really like that Rafa was the heroe of Davis Cup by the press and that everyone wrote that Nadal is the new spanish hope and so on. I don't want to say, that Tommy is jelouse or so, but he makes himself too much pressure. Hope he can handle it till the clay season. What do you think?

~EMiLiTA~
03-15-2004, 10:48 AM
yes, I totally agree with you hola. Since Sydney his trend has been going down and he hasn't been playing very well. I think he is jealous of Rafael because he is the new young Spaniard and the focus has been taken off Tommy. After the DC against the Czech Republic, Feli and Rafael were the heroes, according to the Spanish press (which I don't totally agree with) and that probably also affected him. He is under pressure to perform and that's why he's making careless mistakes and losing easy matches. Anyway, there's only one more tournament 'til the clay season for him...let's see how he does then...

hola
03-15-2004, 12:28 PM
Good, that you see it like me. Hope he can handle it and his new coach will help him too, because he has more psychological problems now, as technical.
Anyway remember we talked on Safin board? Can you give me your MSN number or adress(Have no idea how it works but will do it today :) )

04-01-2004, 11:22 AM
Anyone know if it was Rafa or Tommy that had the "stomach upset" in Miami which forced them to pull out of the doubles? Personally, I think they just threw it away to get back to Spain to practise for the DC...

Speaking of the DC...yeah seems they'll just be playing doubles...but even if Juanqui can't play, I think they'll choose Rafa over Tommy for the singles anyway in light of his recent results of beating Roger etc and plus, of course, the fact that he is the local boy

Yay!

Tommy defeated fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco 6-4 5-7 6-4
Fought hard Tommy! :)

He is now taking on Fernando Gonzalez (CHL, 5) who struggled a lot against Mariano Zabaleta. Maybe there are possibilities? His match is the first on centre court today!

By the way, in the doubles competition Tommy and Didac Pérez, who are old friends, were granted a wild card. They lost in the first round to Marc Lopez and Fernando Vicente. The guy on the pic is Didac Perez. I took the picture two years ago, in Rotterdam.

Wooooooooo Tommy :) Great job..

I had hoped he'd defeat Fernando and saw some possibilities... Now, he'll take on Kristof Vliegen, who stunned David Nalbandían. This is definitely a good opponent for him, but a very talented player too. I see a final coming up, though :) Go Tommy!

Tommy defeated Mark Philippoussis (AUS, #9) 6-2 4-6 6-4 and now takes on Ivo Karlovic from Croatia, who surprisingly dismissed Tommy Haas in three sets. After that, he could play Ivan Ljubicic again, after having lost to him in Monte Carlo, or Carlos Moyá, who is seeded sixth.

Yeah.. I am glad too, but it was quite a close match. Hadn't expected that, considering Tommy's good shape (finally ;)) and Mark's lousy shape for months.. I hope Mark is back in shape and that it was a good match, rather than it was a lousy match.

Tommy is in my sig isn't he? :p I happen to like him a lot. Even though he's a little grumpy at practice :p, but clearly, I have that effect on players (re: Ancic in the Dutch players section Meetings thread ;)). He's always a great player on clay (not bad on grass either btw). I love to watch him play, so I can cheer on him, right?

He has lost against Coria! I could only see the 1st set, then I had to leave the court  He played really good in the 1st set, was leading with a break but then Coria came back somehow. 6-6, Tie-break: Tommy made too much mistakes, though he was playing better. he played the more attractive tennis during the whole match (as far as I could see), came to the net quite often and made great points. Unfortunately, I'vent seen anything of the 2nd set.
Before the match, I've seen him practicing again. If youre interested in photos, please send an e-mail to: jcfcb_fan@yahoo.de (I dont wanna post all pics to this forum, too much ;) ).

Oh my f**kin' god!!!Can't believe it again!!!You always lost in straight set and 0-6 or 1-6 in a game, what a little bit shame. You know,my other most favorite Juan always suffer from lots of injuries this year. So,I concentrate on you even more Juan many times.I always tell the people I support you, cheer on you, believe you,but the result seems want to DO kill me!!!Do you forget you are a clay talent?Where is your best moment like beating Guga and Hewitt in French Open last year?Or you want to be a hard specialist and abort the clay tournaments like Juan?Won't you have a motivation to enter top 10 now? What a damn and long nightmare this year!!!!!!!!!!

I was at the match yesterday and Tommy played like crap I have to say...don't know what was wrong with him but he just wasn't his usual self...missing stuff he'd never normally miss...lots of shots in the net. He was getting very upset...looked like he was going to cry....but I have to say, despite all that his oncourt behaviour was fine...unlike the last time I saw him live...anyway, will go and watch his doubles tomorrow...hopefully they'll win that!

07-17-2004, 08:32 AM
What a pity,it seems he needs a relax on mind...

~EMiLiTA~
07-19-2004, 12:37 PM
yes, his oncourt behaviour was much better...if he had been losing a match like that a few months ago he would have been much worse I think...hehe seems he listened to me when I told him his behaviour was bad...he hardly spat at all in the match, maybe once...and threw his raquet only once but it wasn't very vicious...and quite frankly I would have done the same thing in the circumstances. In the doubles he was in a much better mood...joking around, laughing etc even though they were losing...so it's all good now

Just seen the order of play and Tommy plays last on the Grandstand against Hyung Taik Lee. Coincidentally they played against each other first round in Montreal last year and Tommy won 6-4 7-6 so let's see if he can repeat this year. The match before them is not before 6.50pm so I guess his'll be reasonably late. So just singles for today then...doubles with JCF maybe tomorrow against Hrbaty/Grosjean

Well the Madrid draw's come out and Tommy is seeded 8 so he gets a bye into the second round. He'll play either Ginepri or a qualifier in the second round. He's in the same quarter as Agassi.
In doubles he and Rafa play Schüttler/Hrbaty in the first round.
