Another routine defeat for Cilic . He succeed to lose two matches in one non Davis Cup week . One more mission accomplished for Marin . Baghdatis had only 39 % of first serve in and Marin still managed to lose it . Even on live score it's privileges to follow Cilic . It is not easy to describe but you can somehow fell and imagine his karma even without picture . This guy is pure orgasm

The possiblity also exists that this Baggy is just an excellent player and Cilic got a crummy round one match-up against a rested Baggy too. Baggy had quite a bit of incentive to win this match after his controversial loss at the Rogers Cup and has been playing excellent tennis as of late. I think Baggy won this match as opposed to Cilic losing it.

Congrats, Baggy!

Agreed. Baggy appears to be in good form, last tournament was a Washington final where he put in a respectable showing against Nalbandian.

As soon as I saw the draw I knew Baghdatis would win, but it's still funny to see Cilic bend over so easily  This mug will go up with Wawrinka, Boredo, and Simug as the least deserving top ten player of this era :o

Do you realize that Simug sounds more like Simon+smug than Simon+mug?

Oh thank goodness. I wouldn't wish a loss to Mugrin Clownlic on even my most hated players. Luckily, he will never beat Brands.

Cilic's sophomore blues came a little late but they came in the end, and with a vengeance, it seems.

I don't know where his confidence is at but it seems like he didn't pack it for his flight to the States.

once the surprise passes on, every player learn how to play the new guys, and then most of them sink.

Poor Cilic.I think he should get a 3rd/4th round performance at USO and really look for some answers post USO:hug:

You'd think Marin had Del Potro's injury from his recent performances.

What's up with the Bob Brett coaching anyway? It isn't yielding results now.

He's taken a step backward this year, ever since the Australian. He plays great at that tournament but next year he'll be going in with a steep fall in the rankings almost assured.

Didn't he try working with Ivanisevic some time before? Anyone here to give more info?

Great win for Baggers although although just to reiterate the point that has already been mentioned by some people, he will need to find a higher percentage of first serves in the next round. He's been playing well in the last couple of weeks. Perhaps he was just a bit unlucky to come up against a rejuvenated Nalbandian in the Washington final.

I hope the loss doesn't adversely affect Cilic's confidence going into the US Open where if he is playing well he has the ability to make a little run.

Didn't he try working with Ivanisevic some time before? Anyone here to give more info?

Yes, I believe he did. But I don't think it is reasonable to infer that in some way Goran has passed on the trait of mental fragility to his countryman.

One of the best OPs ever...
Sophomore slump is heavy for him

tough 1st rd draw  Baghdatis didn't serve well but he still got the job done :yeah: hopefully he can go deep this week :)

Cilic has to be concerned with his recent results. He should be getting his best results of the season during the USO series but he seems to be in a slump. I think his USO campaign will be quite dismal this year :tape:

Marin did well in Washington so I'm not as concerned as some of you are with this result. Baghdatis obviously is a good player, so this loss isn't as bad as some are making it out to be. Even though Marcos didn't serve well, he obviously backed his second serve up well and did well fighting off break points. Also Marin wasn't as effective as usual with his serve. Marcos is a good returner, is good at redirecting pace and is generally consistent, so these are things that he has to bother Cilic, especially with Marin lacking confidence.

How Marin does at the US Open is dependent on his draw. This is a tough R1 match, an easier opponent probably would have brought a win. Congrats to Marcos on the victory.
