I don't know what to say.

Murray was the aggressor and Federer the pusher.
Maybe Roger was tired at the beginning but that's no excuse

Very important win for Andy for numerous reasons.

First time beating Federer in a final.

First time beating Nadal and Federer back to back.

First title of the year.

First time beating Nalbandian.

Very useful for him...

Meh. Fed is done. He was playing with house money after he escaped Berdych and Novak. I really worry about his chances at the US Open. He is not playing consistently well at all. He plays great one set, terrible another.

Bad Roger. Bad bad Roger. He can't hold his serve is a huge problem for him. He just gave up points more than the opponent agressively trying to break. Well Rog ... you need a little slap on the bum. But his ballstriking ain't that bad, I have to say.

Murray played great. Aggressive tennis right from the start, he pushed Fed around and attacked every point. Big win for Andy, beating Federer for the first time in a final, and his first title of the year. Hoping for some more of the same next week in Cincinnati. Well done Andy!

The big question is gonna be if this Murray is going to come to the USO or not. Surely, Fed and Nadal will bring their best. It remains to be seen if Murray will.

Fed didn't play all that bad today.. Ive seen him play much worse.. Obviously hes played better,, But give Andy credit.. he fought for the points especially on the return of serve and limited Fed's freebies

And if Murray ever develops a serve outside of a damn college player's level.. he may actually see some slams to his resume.. Until then I dunno. It would be nice to see him achieve something outside of faster hardcourts as well

Anyone who can beat Rafa and Fed in the same tournament deserves a lot of credit. Add to that Murray's defeat of Nalbandian who was in scintillating form. The Scot thoroughly deserved this victory.

As for Federer, depending upon the performance of Djokovic, he will probably need to win Cincy now to maintain his #2 ranking going into the US Open. It's a tough ask and there are frequent lapses entering his otherwise good game that he will have to iron out over the next few weeks but he's certainly given himself a platform to rebuild the rest of his season now.

All in all, a great tournament and some very dramatic matches!

Murray played well, Roger was patchy and serve-dominant as usual, had moments of greatness, but couldn't keep it together for extended periods. Same old thing.

I knew Andy would be back sometime but I'm very impressed by the week he had this week. He played much more aggressively than usual. He needs to continue that pattern of play to win the US Open.

It means Federer would avoid a semi-final against Murray if seeded 3.

For top 4 seeds it will be little advantage; Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Murray little between them in level.

Congratulations to Murray. He was the best player over the course of the tournament. Perhaps the penny has finally dropped and he's realised he needs to play more aggressively to win big matches. Murray's forehand looks a lot better on decoturf too. I suppose the speed of the court allows the ball to move through the court a lot more and, perhaps, the height to the bounce suits his technique better. Murray's first serve percentage will have to go up a notch and he has to be careful not to allow players back into matches. Federer could argue he had chances today, such as to win the first set, but he should never have been given some of those chances by Murray in the first place.

Federer can take a lot from this week as well. He's won tight matches that he would have lost a few months ago, he's had the chance to try out some new tactics, and his game was very good considering the lay off; when his footwork was clicking, Federer could still live with the groundies of Berdych, which he couldn't do at the slower courts of Wimbledon a while back. What he needs to work is producing his best tennis for prolonged periods. Literally, Federer was following up great shots with a terrible ones today. When Federer plays his 2010 best, it's still good enough to win slams.

nably, fedal (same tourney), and federer in a final........not bad, not bad at all. but as impressive as this week was, back of my mind I still have doubts as to whether he can defeat fed at flushing. i still see big chinks in his shot selection armor against fed and what we saw today was a flat, fatigued faderer. nevertheless, this was a great week for muggay and a step in the right direction. miles maclagan must be thrilled.

Roger played the whole tournament quite well, but in the final he got too many shanks and Murray played very very well, great tactics and shotmaking, he's quite entertaining to watch when he isn't pushing

You want who(?) to "get in" who's(?) son?

Correct phrase should have been: 'Get in there, son!'. Kind of similar meaning to: 'get in the hole!' which I'm sure you American's would understand. Does not mean that you would want to partake in having sex with another person's kid you thicko

But like you say, as written, it sounds "a bit dodgy".

(That's why my comment was funny, see).

ESPN really doesn't know shit about tennis. The other day on their top ten plays was a point from a Del Potro/Gonzalez match from a year or 2 ago. It was a match being replayed on the tennis channel that day, and they must have thought it was live :o

Only saw until the rain delay but good job Andy. I don't think he'll win the USO though, this match showed his problems with aggression. He started off so well for 3 games and then once Fed stopped handing him the match he went back to pushing and got broken twice. Never got back to the level of the first 3 games but pulled out the first set anyway cause Fed basically handed it to him with UE.

If Murray can only sustain an aggressive mindset for 3 games and then a few scattered games the rest of the match, that won't be good enough in best of 5. Also good week from Roger he'll come out of this tournament positive and has a definite chance at the USO with the right draw.

Excellent result for Murray in an important match.

He mixed his usual brilliant returning with some much needed aggression, and despite the occasional let downs he pulled through in the end.

I hope he'll find what he's looking for at this year's USO. He's too good on HC not to win a slam.

yeah, it's only a matter of time before Mirka has to lead him onto the court and the ballboys have to place the balls in his hand before he serves and point to the other service box :p

Federer had moments of genius and greatness, his serve is becoming a problem. But his movement is better than Wim and FO.

The draw will be crucial for Murray at USO.

If he comes up against Soderling, Berdych or Verdasco then he's in big trouble.

In fact his best route might be if he drops to #5 this week and gets one of the top 3 instead of Soderling in the quarters.

at least Fed made the final instead of the usual upset losses in early rounds of TMS, and reclaimed the #2 ranking in the process :D

has lots of points to defend in the next two tournaments though

well done Andy :yeah: time to bring this game to the slams now.

Fed got to the finals at least and won some matches along the way that he had been losing at TMS events. And this was his first tournament after 1.5 month layoff. So decent result.

NOW WIN CINCY!

I plan on attending the quarterfinals :). Might stick on for semis.

The goal for Federer is the US Open. Not the "Murray's Cup" Canadian. At least Roger showed he can still play well. And if was probably his best week of tennis since Australia.

good victory this.......to win titles rouger should concentrate on atp 250 events where he will get players ranked outside 40 or 50.......i don't see him winning any titles as long as these young players don't choke and nadal just shows up in any physical and mental state.......

I'm not a Murray fan by any means, but his play from the QF onwards was excellent IMO. Hopefully we'll see less of the passive shit in favour of the more attacking style which he displayed in the latter half of the week.

Good for Murray, he always has been one of my faves, am really happy for him. Hope this steadies his self-confidence a bit. I think we are in for a great end of the season: Murray looks ver well, Fed is back and hungry for a win, Djoko seems to have upped his game (in fact, did have his chances against Fed on Saturday), Berdych and Soderling seem to have become serious contenders, at least for providing a few upsets, and Nadal is in fine physical form and likely to improve on his Toronto level. Now all that is missing is for Delpo to return and recover his previous level.... we'll enjoy the fight!!!

Andy's forehand was so freaking beast.

If he can keep the consistency on that forehand in terms of aggression, we'll have a whole different player on hands.

Stunning shot making, watching that kinda aggression after seeing him coast through so many matches on passive crap is the reason why he is slamless.

He doesn't need risky aggression in the early stages of tourneys, just bring it in the semis/finals/quarters.
