Toronto Final: Murray def. Federer 7-5, 7-5

Didn't see a thread

Anyway....Murray came out blazing in the 1st set. Was up a double break at one point (3-0). Was very aggressive. Fed broke back and again at 5-5 to level the match and then Murray ran off with the next two games.

Then the rain came.

IIRC, Murray went up a break and then broke back. I didn't see much of the final set. Murray was actually aggressive on his last of 3 break points (when Fed was down 5-5 0-40) and managed to go up to serve for the set. And when he was down BP on his serve, came up with 2 clutch aces to get to match point.

A very nice result for Murray. Strong, positive stuff. Needs to maintain this balance to make good at the last slam of the year.

Federer, like Nadal and Djokovic, is hopefully working through the rust....

Can't believe the mug that got bagled by Monfils after he hit 15 UEs and 0 winners won this master. Thank you Nalbandian, Nadull and FEDmug for making this possible.

Great result for Andy. He didn't play as well as he did against Rafa, but he was more agressive than he has been lately against Roger. If he keeps playing like that, he should run that h2h up on the Swiss.

To be fair Murray has played very well this week and thoroughly deserved this title. He's got to be feeling great going into Cincy where he can get some more match practise, and with the US Open looming to boot.

Great to see Federer back where he belongs -- playing on a Sunday!

well played Murray, too solid on the baseline
Fed could play brilliant points followed by incredible mistakes

murray surely one of the favs for us open but have a feeling it'll be again different story if he gets to play Fed in a final

Murray played well. Good win for him. I'd still pick Federer to win it should they face off at the USO.

The way Fed lost serve on 11th game 1st set is just ABYSMAL. Shame of tennis.

Fireworks from last night are probably for the final night match of the tournament. Who would have fireworks in the middle of the day??

Andy Murray now has:

15 titles
5 MS titles
a 7-5 h2h against Fed
no.3 spot in the race.
no.4 spot in the rankings
A LOT of confidence going into Cincinnati and the US Open.

All I can say is, beware Nadal, Federer & Djokovic.
Muzza is back.

Yes I was bitter in the last 5 minutes but then I remembered that Murray is the slamless player who was badly beaten by Roger in the only slam finals he ever played.

Very important victory for Murray. To beat Nalbandian, Nadal, & Federer in straight sets in consecutive matches bodes well for his chances at the U.S. Open. Seems to be playing more aggressively without compromising his defensive strengths. Good week for Federer too - probably the best he's played since the A.O. That may not be saying much, but if he improves at Cincy and again at the U.S. Open, he'll be a big threat there once again.

true, i didnt even think of that. but he still needs to do well at cincy and the USO to gain points from these 3 events. im really happy overall with rogers performance this week. he will be a big favorite for the USO once more. i think him and murray will be the favorites, then djokovic, then nadal/berdych/soderling. what do you think?

Andy seems to have found a better balance between defense and attack this week.

Time will tell if this is a flash in the pan or the start of him using all his weapons more consistently to their full advantage.

congrats to murray and all his fans here. he is one of my players also.

that being said, the big quesion mark is slams. he will be under intense pressure at the open. and fed is not an easy man to dismiss at the slams on hard courts.

and then there is that other monster warrior at the slams. you know who he is.
