Heart says Murray in 3, mainly because it's about time that he finally won his first title for this year.

Head says Roger in 3, he will be determined to even up that head to head against Murray, and also win another title after a 28 week title drought.

Hopefully, the pattern of the week will continue and Roger will win in 3. Although, I have no problem with a straight-sets victory.

Fed's got a nice run going against Andy, especially in finals. It would be a shame to ruin it now.

Murray's game has looked strong in the last two matches, but Fed has the mental edge from his recent run of success against Murray and I think it will clinch it for him again.

Federer, in 3.

ApproachShot
08-15-2010, 02:59 AM
This is too close for me to call. Andy's has displayed a vastly improved attacking-minded game in his last two matches, dispatching with ease two of the most dangerous players on tour at the moment in Nalbandian and Nadal. Yet from Federer's perspective, at times in the tournament it seemed that he had rediscovered the form he had at the Australian Open. That got him ahead in his matches but subsequent lapses almost cost him both in the QF and the SF.

If the same were to happen again in tomorrow's final, I am sure that Murray will not be as forgiving to him as Berdych and Djokovic were. That said, although Murray leads the head-to-head 6-5, the last 3 encounters ended in defeat to the Swiss - the most recent of course being in the AO final. Moreover to date they have contested 3 finals, all of which Federer have won. Whichever way it pans out, they both certainly deserve to be in the final and they both are in need of a title. It's almost a shame that one of them will have to travel to Cincy without the trophy.

Fed guaranteed to win the 1st set and then drop off in the second. The question is if he can recover in the third or if he craps out entirely. Murray's form against Nadal never transfers to the next match, that should be obvious by now. It's all up to which Fed shows up and whether he can weather the UE storm.

Fed in 3 is my guess.

I think Murray's chances greatly rely on him serving above 50%, otherwise he sibject to being too passive and out-hit by Fed.

I think Murray might do this tomorrow, so I will pick him to win in 3.

Still, I remain skeptical.

Federer is finished, he shouldn't even have won the past 2 games against Beryech and Djokovic. He is playing like total shit. Face it Federer is a non-contender for any major tournaments against top 5 players now. It's a shame he's fallen to the level of a vegetable when he was a genius just 3-5 years ago. Federer is also nearly 30, he needs to give up.

Murray will eat him alive tomorrow. Murray is already leading in their Head to Head. The British Press can finally celebrate their favorite player.

people who think Murray has much of a say on the result of this match haven't watched their last 3 matches, or maybe they did but they still don't have the capacity to understand this matchup (or simply delusional, like 90% of MTFers), as long as Federer's game is clicking and he is hitting his spots while playing his aggressive game, Murray can do nothing to him, Federer is not Nadal and he won't give Murray time to set up the rallies and shots within his comfort zone, he will be pushed and he will be retrieving for most of the match, playing catchup with Fed's offense, either Federer makes enough UEs to give Murray chances or he will simply outplay him for a straightforward win, like he has done in the past.

MacTheKnife

No doubt, the match is on federer's racquet. I haven't seen much evidence of murray being able to hurt fed other than defense. He'll try to play more aggressively, but if it fails, he'll go back into his defensive shell and wait for fed to lose it.

Despite losing the last 3 matches, Murray is still 6-5 in the H2H, 6-3 in 3 set matches and 3-1 in Masters.

Neither player is back to his best, so it's very open.

Yep, this match is a toss up and who ever executes will win it. My pick of federer has a lot more to do with what's between their ears than their games. But if fed is piling up the UEs murray will have no reason to be more aggressive. Hence, match is on feds racquet.

I don't think Federer's stamina will be the issue. Having watched the last few matches by Murray, I just think he's the more solid all round player at the moment. Nalbandian doesn't play too differently to Federer and he was butchered 2 and 2. Sure, he was playing badly and was tired but any chance of Federror turning up for this match and Murray has the real advantage. You can almost be assured Federer will lose concentration at some stages in the match and when he does this time, I have a feeling he might not get away with it so easily. Also, if Murray keeps up this aggressive game I might dislike him less. Andrew Murray in 2, and title successfully defended for the first time in 15 years it's been done at the Rogers Cup. But any let up and I can see Federer drawing inspiration from his last two matches to clinch it.

The one thing about that is if his 1st serve% is under 55 Federer will be much more likely to tear his 2nd serve apart.

Better serving and a slightly worse ball striking day and I think he'll edge it.Same of both and I reckon he'll lose.

1- Both need it equally. Roger to reassert himself, he's so shaky in all his matches, not clear wins. He hasn't won anything since AO and it's so far away. And Murray hasn't won anything, period. And he needs revenge on Federer. So very important for both.
2- I think pressure will be determinant. We all see how pressure affects Roger lately, he gets so tight and nervous. Murray seems calmer but against Roger he's always more nervous.
3- I think the final should be taken as a blank start. Does it say anything that Murray beat Nalbandian so comfortably? I don't think so. And against Nadal? maybe, but i think this means nothing once he plays Roger in the final. Every match is a different story. And none of them has been consistent enough to be favorite.

Well being a big Murray fan I'm hoping he can win, its been good to see him play more aggresively this week. He's been very impressive taking out Nalbandian and Nadal in straights the last couple of rounds but I cant see that happening here. Federer at times this week has looked back to his best and he has of course beaten Andy in both previous finals they have played.

I think it will go to 3 sets and I will say Murray to take the title but it's really a toss up.:)

Federer.

Murray has never beaten Federer in a final.

Murray has never beaten Federer and Nadal back to back in a tournament.

Murray has lost the last couple of matches to Federer, I think Federer feels much more confident playing Andy than he did 2 years ago - he knows what to do against him, it's purely a question of exection.

For these reasons, I see a Federer win here.

Roger doesn't breakdown physically most of the time, so I don't think last two matches would affect him much. Don't know. But his precision hasn't been that great for a while now. He was pounding shot to shot with Novak so it looks like a good sign. he just need to hold his serve.

I hope Paul Annacone will make him practice a lot. But both Roger and Pete don't want to practice; they prefer match play and figure out things on court.

He was pounding shot to shot with Novak and losing most of them. I don't think that's a good sign for Roger, specially since Novak is not in his best form and was winning most points from the baseline with only his second serve.
