Very intriguing matchup! If Murray stays solid and Nadal plays like he has been, Murray should take this. But we will see if Wimbledon's loss against Nadal will affect Andy.

Can't call it, personally. It depends totally on what level each brings tomorrow. I'm inclined to say Rafa but he's not been too good so far, but he will assuredly raise his level, so who knows.

This is a tough one. I'm leaning more towards Murray though. I think Murray will win in 3. This is based on how both played in their QF's. Murray has impressed, Rafa has not. So yes, on current form I think Murray has the slight upper hand on Rafa. Murray should be able to beat him on HC.

Are you really going to say that with a straight face when I clearly posted their matches in the first post or are you blind? Do you not consider Murray defeating Nadal both at the US Open and Australian Open as big matches?

Conditions couldn't be better for Murray. Nadal is playing like crap, Murray played probably his best tennis since AO today, Murray is desperate for a win while Nadal has already accomplished his season's goals, surface, conditions, matchup, about a million reasons Murray should win this comfortably. If he loses tomorrow, he really is done and will become Djokovic 2.0, winning against mugs like Monfils but always losing easily to Fedal/hot streak player of the tourney.

I'm going with Rafa on this one. Surely he's struggled in Toronto so far, but you guys have to remember, he hasn't played in over a month since Wimbledon, so personally, I expected him to be rusty for a couple of matches. Now comes a tougher opponent in Murray, and yes Murray poses more of a problem for Rafa on a hardcourt surface. However, history doesn't always dictate the outcome of a match. Rafa knows he has to be firing on all cylinders, if he is to beat Murray or any other top player at this stage of a big tournament. He's had tournaments like this before where he struggled the first few matches, but turned his game up in the final rounds against the bigger opponents, so I have to think he'll come out much more focused and solid tomorrow against Murray. I think he'll win in a close 3.

Not based on that, fool.

He is clearly playing great, Nadal is playing rubbish and it's on hard, not grass or clay.

Straight sets wins:

Murray def. Malisse 7-5 6-2
Murray def. Nalbandian 6-2 6-2

Nadal def. Wawrinka 7-6 6-3

Impossible? No. I do think Murray needs to win the first set. I think Murray can win a 6-3 4-6 6-1 type score. Anyway, my thoughts are based purely on the pressure that Rafa puts on players, can Andy deal with that? Rafa steps up his game and wears opponents down during matches, can Andy avoid that? One only needs to look at Rafa's 3 set and 5 set record to know he's very hard to beat in deciding sets.

he knows he can beat murray even on ultra fast slippery ice and he will most probably beat him today but i couldn't care less about the result.......it's the us open that counts and he should win that just for the heck of it and after that i will not even care for the most overrated tournament in tennis, us open.......

i agree about cincinnatti being an irrelevant tournament.
very dull and rude people over there.
no atmosphere at all and most of the crowd are grumpy old people with no knowledge of tennis or the tennis players.
the ATP really need to move the indian wells and miami tournaments as part of the US open series and get rid of cincinnatti masters.

imo the US open series should be:

1. canada masters(alternating between toronto and montreal just like they do now)
2. american masters(alternating between indian wells and miami)
3. US open

i reckon thats the best solution to this indian wells/miami tournaments being held AFTER the aussie open.
there is no point in them at all.

where have you been lately. You were active during the off season a couple weeks ago but MIA lately. You seriously think Rafa wins tomorrow? Man if that happens Im gonna be the happiest. But watching Murray and Rafa play today - one wouldnt be too irrational to conclude that Murray is gonna thump rafa tomorrow. THe bookies seem to be in Rafa's camp as favorite (1.6 Rafa vs 2.2 for Murray).

Problems with Rafa's game this week:

(1) Serving very inconsistent
(2) Second serve has nothing on it and is asking to be whacked
(3) Forehand is sailing long - range isnt there
(4) Footwork on the backhand is a bit off
(5) Return of first serve completely missing
(6) Low breakpoint conversion ratio
(7) Gets broken right after securing breaks
(8) Ground strokes dont seem to have power to be winners through the court
(9) Groundstrokes are getting loopier and less flat as he tightens up
(10) Looks very unhappy and miserable with his game. always under pressure

he still manages to win ...remarkable guy this Rafa. But the buck stops with Murray :(

Murray in 3. He's just a better hardcourt player and if he comes out with the aggressive attitude that we've seen him attack Nadal with before...then he has a very good chance of winning. I think a 3-set match favors him a little more than a 5-set match as well.

I'm a bit anxious over this match. On one side, I very much want Rafa to win it. But on the other hand, I'm a bit uneasy about the consequences. Murray has such a fragile character that if he fails here yet again he may sink for the rest of the hardcourt season; since I think he is a very good player who has much to contribute to the sport, I wouldn´t like that at all. And another consequence would be that Soderling would become nr 4. All respect to him, but I think that with his results that would be a bit of a joke.
