good stuff from Dave apart from the DFs

Marcos had so many chances at Bandy's serves late in the 2nd set, never should have gone to a tiebreak:(

Congrats to David for a great week :yeah: It's such a pleasure to have him back :)

Now stay healthy and then it will be interesting to see what we can expect in the 2nd part of the season, especially when the indoor tournaments are coming up later this year.

Marcos, good week as well :yeah:

crazy 2nd set. lots of breaks and baggy had a set point. then dave plays a pretty dominant breaker. the force was too strong with him. will be very dangerous in the coming events. look out, the force is strong with dave once more...

That was an alright performance from David, Marcos didn't serve well enough through most of the match. Quite a lot of errors from both but also really good shotmaking, especially from David, and also nice volleying from David. Marcos had a lot of chances throughout the entire second set to win the set but failed to take advantage.

Congrats to David on the victory!

He could still make the year end finals assuming he stays fit he should have about 1500 points going into the indoor season which is his greatest surface.

He played well this week, so I give him his respect despite not being a fan of his. I was pulling for Baghdatis to make a comeback and push it to a 3rd set, but he blew quite a few break point chances and I was disappointed in that.

Nalby pretty much dictated during the entire match, which is why he won this one. Good result for Marcos, but I think better results will come when he gets himself into better match shape. That's always been the big issue with him. Not just that, but he could use some help to seriously improve his game. A lot of potential, but still, Baghdatis has a hell of a long way to, if he is to really become the player we know he can be.

David should do well at the Masters 1000 events, the next two weeks. I would be surprised if he didn't.

I wouldn't say that. He could be a dark horse, depending on what happens the next two weeks in Canada and Cincy.

Congratulations to David for such great week. I expected him to do it pretty well on this tournament especially after each match but to be honest I didn`t believe he was going to be able to win it.

It wasn`t a well played match. David clearly dominated the first set but starting struggling with his serve on the 2nd set which didn`t help to his confidence later on and after that long 3rd game he started to run out of gas. Fortunately he managed to reach the tie break and win it on two. Otherwise if the match had extended to a 3rd tie break it would had ended on Marcos hands.

This is great to see David back and winning but this is going to be slower than I would have believed. The guy spent a long time out of the tour and those mental breaks are probably consecuense of it as well as the fact that he plays well during some periods of a match and so badly on others. Overall it`s much better than I would had expected.

Well done David! :yeah:

Exactly - same David Nalbandian - super talented, but too mentally weak to win a GS.

You saw it at the end of the 2nd set - began choking it up. He recovered, but if this had been a GS SF, he would have lost that.

Nalbandian lovers will get re-excited and he'll choke one away at the USO and he'll be back to Square 1.

Great to see Nalbandian win (and good for his hardcore fans, too). He needs to get that 1st serve % up. But overall, he was incredible...especially in the 1st set. Precise, penetrating ground strokes.

Great first set from Nalbandian, then he definitely struggled a bit more part way through the second set. Baghdatis did step it up and made that second set very interesting and entertaining, and of course played the match in good spirit

No doubt he played well at this tournament - he's always been able to thrive at non-grand-slams.

Are you denying he has a long, sad history of choking hard at Slams? Do you want me to list them? His chokes aren't my fault - don't take it out on me.

He played well enough to win.

Are you denying he has a long, sad history of choking hard at Slams? Do you want me to list them? His chokes aren't my fault - don't take it out on me.

Sure, in the past he had a tedency to sometimes struggle to close or serve out matches.

He's one of the only active players to reach the semi final of every slam.

The only time he choked was against Baghdatis AO SF 06, please list any others.

Great win David, good to see both these guys back and playing well. Nalby will have to take it up another level to be a threat to the top guys at the Masters/USO, but a great tournament back for sure. Let the wagon pick up steam.

Roddick - 2003 SF.

And there have been other times he came into GS looking like a real threat - only to collapse in the early rounds.

Don't get me wrong - I love Nalbandian's game and love watching him play. When he's in high gear, he can play with - and beat - anyone.

That's the point - the only reason someone like him could be Slam-less is because he lacks the mental toughness to win.

It's possible that, late in his career, he could have more good runs and be stronger - but I seriously doubt it. The pressure of winning the first one would be too great - especially against the caliber of players you have to beat in the late rounds.

This isn't the WTA - can't win by being the one to choke less.

Another spectacular display by King David. His best tennis comes in spurts and we got some of it in DC. We also got to see a new intensity from King David which he typically reserves for Davis Cup. The injury time off has clearly energized and intensified Nalbandian who is more spirited now on court. More passion. I think in the past he lacked the tenacity and fire in slams, though he does have it for Davis Cup. Now he has it for events like Washington DC. It's going to be very intersting to see his intensity levels in New York.

Did anyone see this QA he did with ESPN after the Cilic match? Check it out: King David is a very intelligent man, even speaking in his second language...

2nd set had some good points, but also a lot of errors. Nalbandian's return of serve went off in the last few games. Neither player served well either :tape: Baghdatis had sooo many chances to break in the 2nd set but he missed most of them :o

anyway, nice to see both Baghdatis and Nalbandian back in a final. They both played very well to reach the final, and hopefully they can keep up that form in the next month.

Two of the biggest underachievers in our sport playing a 500 final, good to see :yeah: Didn't get to see the match but looking at the stats I'm not too confident Baggy or Nalby have any chance against the top players. US Open is a long way away, hope all of the long time underachievers can get it together (Fish, Nalby, Baggy, Gulbis, Gasquet, about a million more :o)

there were some great rallies in this match from two of the cleanest ball strikers in the game. dahveed had excellent depth and was very aggressive with his groundstrokes. he took full advantage of bagman's woeful 1st serve % and really stepped in and attacked the 2nd serve and dictated the rallies.

well done dahveed and congrats on your first title on u.s. soil :drink: :hatoff:
