Washington 1/2: Nalbandian schools Cilic 6-2 6-2

This match is Cilic's reality .The best indicator of his capability . Brainless player without any variety or gameplan . Serve still improving . Foe week or two he could easily go toe-to-toe with Volandri

Total Domination from Nalby. Outplayed Cilic of the ground easily, bad match up for Marin. Looking good for the title :worship:

:worship:

Cilic was pathetic, worships Nalby too much and has no confidence against him, Nalby was shaky at times but played well enough to stay in control all match, great stuff, now take the title :rocker2:

WTF with the handshake as well? :retard:

Only good thing about this match was the umpire challenging.

After shaky start (got broken in the opening game) the American from Argentina makes the final of Washington :)

Nalbandian played pretty well overall but I hoped more tennis from Cilic.
Nalbandian exposed Cilic weakness, his lack of variety, just hitting big and flat and just destroyed Marin second serve .

Nadal wouldn't have enjoyed watching that  (although I'm guessing he had better stuff to do)

King David is looking mighty impressive out there :worship: :worship::worship:....many of the Top Guns are going to be scared. In the last ep, Fed was freaking out about the "steamrolling" Nalby. I'm betting Rogie and Rafa are stepping up their discussion in light of today's beatdown. Pray that their evil plans will fail and King David continues to march on in full health.

Here is a repeat of Ep 2. Ep 3 cannot be far away at this point: :p

Great interview with Nalby after the match. It is so encouraging to see him looking happy and confident again. Rogie and Rafa probably threw their respective TVs out their windows during the interview.

The only negative point is the low percentage of 1st serve as well as it happened against Simon. The rest was almost perfect :)

embarrassing performance from cilic, and he has shown me he doesn't have the maturity yet to adjust his game plan in the middle of the match. No aggression shown and he just gifted his shots to nalby, unlike last night. Really surprised to see him lay such an egg but Nalbandian is praised for a reason.

MTF should encase David in a bag of foam, watch every step he makes the next few weeks, then watch him win the U.S. Open. Except for maybe 2 service games, nalby was on cruise control and he will annihilate any pusher he sees at the open

Anybody know what the kings ranking will be if he wins this title?

I looked at it last night. He was already around "78" (assuming points are frozen which isn't the case) heading into the match, and if he were to win today (300 pts) would be around "63". So he is currently in the mid 60's.

A title (500 pts) would get him just below 1000 pts total points for the year and he isn't defending any points until next Spring. :D

A title would get him ranked in the mid 40's:

32 Benneteau, Julien (FRA) 1,229 0 24
33 Simon, Gilles (FRA) 1,215 0 23
34 Llodra, Michael (FRA) 1,145 0 24

current points:
465

+500 or +300

= 965 or 765

he is around 264 or 464 points short of being seeded as #32 (there will be some absents at the US Open like Del Potro, Tsonga)

So basically he must win the title and make a good run in Canada (SF) or at least 2 QFs in Canada and Cinci (if he is playing cinci)
+360 or +180 x2
(if he wins, a QF and R16 would do it i guess)

I'm sure if someone took Psychology 101, this would all begin to make sense.

Anyway, not the greatest stuff from Cilic, but happy to see King David back in form. Tomorrow's Final with Baggy has the potential to be extremely entertaining.

I'm more worried Nalby won't have anything left in the gas tank for his first round encounter with Ferru in Toronto next week and that will be a draining match if he does somehow find enough to win it. Tough draw for both guys in Toronto!

I like what you're saying here, but I honestly would have preferred him to have to face almost anyone else after 5 consecutive matches this week. Back in 2007, Ferru was the one who took him out of the U.S. Open.

As to the spirit of your message. :yeah: And if he can't get 'em in Toronto, I like a rested Nalby in Cincy. :D

Some of the most competitive matches for Nalby when he was "on fire" back in the day were against Ferru. One of my favorite matches:

Nalbandian vs Ferrer 2007 Master Series Paris QF highlights

If I'm a player after a tough week of matches. the "energizer bunny" is not who I want to see across the net in the First Round.

I respect Ferru quite a bit regardless. I'm sure there will be rationalizations aplenty for that match from all the fans here on MTF. As both players are supremely talented, it will be a match that will just be a joy to watch.

This week for Tennis fans:

First Round Toronto Masters: Nalby vs. Ferru (Ditto :worship: )Time to sit back and just enjoy the Tennis.

Dahveed was good, but amazing is pushing it a bit. He was playing very well but obviously Cilic was intimidated, Marin played nervous, it's a good match-up for David, and David has confidence and when he's confident and fit, he's simply better than Marin. So it's a good win, and he and Baghdatis should be a nice match to watch, I expect Dahveed to win comfortably.
