There's a consolation draw for those who lost in the first round of the main draw (singles only).

FUCSOVICS, Marton (HUN) [1] vs. KRAINIK, Pavel (CAN)
MICOV, Stefan (MKD) vs. PAVIC, Mate (CRO)
UCHIYAMA, Yasutaka (JPN) [4] vs. ACOSTA, Diego (ECU)

TRIKI, Ahmed (TUN) vs. QUIROZ, Roberto (ECU) [3]
HELLER, Peter (GER) vs. KING, Darian (BAR)
PATROMBON, Jeson (PHI) vs. OLIVO, Renzo (ARG) [2]

It's a nice idea, at least everyone gets a chance to play at least two singles matches in an Olympic setting. The Philippine delegate looks set to lose a THIRD match in all, though. :(

=====

I understand that you can't get a medal (or points) for the consolation draw, but it just sucks that Fucsovics and Olivo both pulled out of the boys' singles consolation draw after losing their respective doubles matches. Maybe they're both going to another tournament, and they're trying to get well-rested or stay healthy, but... it just doesn't seem like it's in the "spirit of the Games" to pull out. *shrug*

That's just my two cents, though. :)

I'm watching the quarterfinals tomorrow! :D Photos and stuff will be posted. :)

So I was at the games yesterday, and those are the semifinalists. I'll post the full results in a bit.

I only saw two of the quarterfinals. Fernandes-Baluda was pretty good. Fernandes is great to watch when he's ON. But he was in a hole early in the first set, being broken twice. It's interesting because Baluda won the toss and elected to return serve, and started the match by breaking Fernandes. The second set was tighter (it went into tiebreak) and I thought Baluda would fall apart following a few frustrating calls, but he held it together to win. Most of the girls were cheering for Fernandes, though some couldn't decide who was cuter, LOL.

I also saw Dzumhur-Zsiga. Dzumhur was impressive, he ran Zsiga around throughout the match, and I think he pretty much exhausted Zsiga, who even called for a medical timeout in the second set. Dzumhur is fantastic when he approaches the net. He came up with some excellent shots down the line. Nice to note, though, that Dzumhur and Zsiga are friends and were chatting before and after the match.

Alas, I didn't get to see Golding-Gomez (Gomez won) or Bhambri-Morrissey (Bhambri won). But I hope this makes up for it.

Gold medal match will be between Bhambri and Gomez. Bronze medal match will be between Dzumhur (who got EXTREMELY frustrated with the officiating in the first set) and Badula.

The boys' doubles bronze went to the Slovakian pair of Horansky and Kovalik. Their opponents won over a lot of fans, though. Galeano of Paraguay played up the crowd, while Rodrigues of Venezuela stayed and signed a LOT of autographs. He actually used my Sharpie for most of them, LOL, until I took it back from him (but not without a photo!). Also, he took his shirt off a LOT, to the delight of the girls. Haha.

I'll be watching the Bronze Medal match, but I'm not sure if I can get tickets for the Gold Medal match.

Oh, and I have autographs (and photos) from Rodrigues, Dzumhur, and Morrissey.

Rainy day today in Singapore. Hopefully it stops before play is scheduled to start (in two hours).

I'll be watching the matches, so maybe you'll see me on the live feed. ;-) I'll be the guy wearing red and a straw hat. Well, I'll be wearing blue for the Dzumhur-Baluda match, as I'll be rooting for Damir! :D

good luck hyperren, hopefully you can take lots of pics :D

I'll be rooting for Gomez in the singles gold medal match, the guy has been making steady progress, he first came to my radar when he won the Banana Bowl :)

Pirata.

Thanks for the info about Tiago :) Sad that he lost, but nice to hear he's already gaining his first female following

Ricardo Rodriguez of Venezuela gained even MORE fans yesterday. After he and Diego Galeano of Paraguay lost the bronze medal match (boys' doubles), Ricardo took off his shirt (to change) to the delight of the girls. Then he spent a LOT of time signing autographs... and at some point, he stopped to change his shirt again (to wear a shirt displaying his sponsor's name)... and of course, more squeals. LOL.

Thiago was nowhere to be found after this quarterfinal loss. :(

Morrissey was watching some matches yesterday, and I finally got his autograph. :)

Also, when I'm less busy (AKA, not going home late after the matches), I'll post photos. :D

Unfortunately, play was suspended when it started to rain during the Boys' Doubles Gold Medal match, with Golding/Vesely leading Baluda/Biryukov 4-1 in the first set.

Anyway, at some point, when it was clear that play wasn't going to resume, Babos and Gavrilova - who won the gold in girls' singles - started goofing off, dancing on centre court. Later, some of the YOG volunteers joined in. Eventually, a whole bunch of male players - Baluda, Biryukov, Dzumhur, Golding, and King - joined in. It was a lot of fun, and nice to see these players act, well, like normal teenagers, partying in the rain.

Afterwards, I managed to take photos with, get the autographs of, and give a gift to Babos, Dzumhur (whose coach may or may not have recognized me, as he greeted me when he saw me), Baluda, and Biryukov. :D

I might not be able to watch the matches today. :( I have work and the matches from yesterday have been rescheduled to this morning (which is when I'm working). And annoyingly enough, they won't even let me watch the matches from yesterday that are scheduled for later in the day (particularly the boys' singles bronze medal match). Grr.

Missed all the action today, but I do know Golding/Vesely won the gold medal in boys' doubles.

I know this because I talked to Golding and his coach. :D I have his photo and autograph, too! :D

Just though the Golding fans here would like to know that. ;)

Also, Dzumhur beat Baluda for the bronze.

Haha, I greatly enjoyed watching the Gomez-Baluda semifinal because of Gomez's supporters. They seem to cheer as hard as they would for football. The assorted yells of "Vamos!" were, well, fun. :)

Wow, this was worth as much as a Grand Slam ranking points wise. Juan Sebastian Gomez collects the 500 and shoots up to #1 having never done much in junior Grand Slams (at least singles). Follows in the footsteps of former #1 Jason Kubler.
