He's playing Stuttgart and Hamburg on clay first. He'll start his hardcourt season in Toronto in August.

Not entirely the right thread but a final, eh? :D

Barely seen more than a set per match this week unfortunately. Hopefully he'll grind out another one tomorrow though. :yeah:

Still on clay in Stuttgart

Gael started the final poorly, particularly on serve, injured his ankle towards the end of the first set. Better serving allowed him to go up 2-1 in the second set, but movement was clearly hampered and he retired afterwards.

And he's missing Hamburg cos he's injured just saw that on twitter.

Rasheed shaking his head in desperation after Gael squandered a 6-5 lead against Devvarman in Toronto, got rebroken to love.

Might sound a bit melodramatic, but I'm starting to think the next couple of months could be make or break for Gael's career.

Right now he's living off points from a strong end to last year, if he doesn't defend at least some of them he will probably drop down in the rankings to around the #30 mark. Given his injury problems, coupled with an awful mental attitude to the game of late, I'd really not be confident about seeing him turn it around :/

I've sort of felt this way for a while (in regards to this season in general), but you could turn it around and say well maybe a drop down the rankings would be something that would motivate him and get a bit more fire in him as well I think. He's too difficult to predict at any rate, I think if anyone on this forum were to try and plan out his remaining career path they'd have an abysmal success rate.

Well, he might have picked up some valuable points so I guess we can ignore my worries on ranking for a while yet but...

...He has to reevaluate what on earth he's doing with his tennis. Even given the conditions, his performance has just been abysmal today.

He's in final of Tokyo vs Nadal. His best tournament of the year outside DC. Strange to see that gael will be i think the n1 french guy in the ranking next week but in menstennisforums one of the french with less comments

Great battle today against Jo. He really improved in his game level last two months. And he beat Isner & Tsonga, two players against who he had difficulties to win. 2011 will be very interesting for Gaël. If he continues to play like here and Tokyo, he can easily come back in the top 10.

I don't see the match today but apparently he's more concentrated along a match and play more close of his lines with some attacking games. He begins to win some doubles matches now that explains his prgression at the net.

Still a good tournament, and he defended all those points I really didn't see him defending so that's a massive plus!

Perhaps this time he can capitalize on it next season.

yes I have learn that on his twitter too. someone had said that was because he was so late for his final match in bercy (he was just arrive there 45 minutes before the match ) but I didn't anderstand because that was 2 different things ! He was in london and do to the circus and I think for soccer in chelsea.

But there is a bad news about Gaël today :
Comme on l'apprend sur RMC, Gaël Monfils ne se présentera pas en conférence de presse cet après-midi comme c'était initialement prévu. Le numéro 1 français ira passer des examens médicaux à la place. "Il est un peu patraque, il ne se sent pas très bien" a confié Forget.

RMC (french radio) annonces Gaël will not be to the pointpress of this afternoon as he have to do. The french number 1 will have to pass medical exams. "He's feeling under the weather" said forget.

What does that mean ? Is that during his rise in martinique ? maybe what we call since 2 month there, la dengue en martinique ???? a gastro ? very too bad ! any training, monday, thuesday and now today !!!! I'm anxious now
