Way to go Berd. He deserves to be in the final the way he's played these 2 weeks. Another disappointing performance from Djokovic.

Djokovic looks like his toplevel career is on the edge of plummeting. He may be number 2, but it's totally misleading (lots of 500s, Paris, ludicrously easy slam draws).

Nasty chokes by Berdy serving out the 2nd, and trying to blow the tiebreak from 6-2 also.

07-02-2010, 03:31 PM
Nole had an easy draw to get this far but as soon as he faced someone as quality as Thomas it was soon to be over. The game an its players keep on improving, they make changes to their game to get better(like Soderling, Nadal, Berdych, etc.). Nole on the other hand has simply regressed as a player. Its very unfortunate to see.

Anyways congrats to Berdych, great to see him finally living up to all that potential.

Ben.
07-02-2010, 03:32 PM
Well done Tomas Berdych. Held it together in the second set tie break, just about anyway, and there was only ever going to be one winner then. Taking out the world number 2 and 3 in back to back matches, no one can say he does not desrve to be in the final. Not sure what to make of Djokovic, a pattern is repeating itself that when he comes up against his first tough opponent he loses. Nice to see him gracious at the net at the end though as he always is.

Djokovic only had glimpses of his aggressive self in the match.

At the same time tough to be aggressive when Berdych is unloading on his shots.

Berdman tried to gift the second set to Nole, had Nole won the tiebreak he might've won the match.

Keep your head up Nole and use this as a springboard to finding better form :yeah:

mentally weak djokovic today. I think its more of an attitude problem. in his interview he said things like 'its 50 50 match', 'there is no favorite', 'berdych is great player', 'I think I really deserved win against Lu'... and such things. while berdych said 'its all up to me'. sadly djoker shot himself in the leg once again.

Entertaining second set :yeah: Berdych was distinctively better in that set but it almost slipped away from his hands when D'Joke saved 4 (5) consecutive setpoints, and had his own two chances to clinch the set. Respect to Berdych in that difficult situation stayed calm. I think helped him the fact he has been lately playing long tie-breaks with high frequency. I checked out their long tie-breaks overall with at least 16 points played, after this match Berdych has 8-8 ratio, Djokovic 4-8.

firstly, tomas berdych deserves a lot of credit for the way he played today, he held his nerve, and to be honest, after beating roger, i thought his game might fluctuate out there, but he didnt. good luck in the final tomas! :bigclap:

novak, what the hell? such a disappointment, he played so passively, just waited for berdych to miss on so many occasions. the shitty serve showed up once more DF on set point in the 2nd set TB and then 2 DF's in a row to give tomas the break at 3-4 in 3rd set, nice going, and can he hit a drop shot anywhere else on the court apart from to the right hander's forehand???

he needs to stop with the negative body language when things are not going well. i am hoping he gets his act together really soon, lots of points to defend for the rest of the year.

Filo V.
07-02-2010, 03:41 PM
Congrats to Tomas on the win! He was simply too good. Maintained an aggressive mindset and served well, kept his composure, and was the more solid player. Nole's was too reactionary, and his lack of serve has affected the rest of his game. He has less confidence and he doesn't go for his shots as loosely as he did. That second serve of his is now officially a liability if it wasn't already, he'll need to figure that out before we get to the hard court season, and improve the mental game.

Lot of players would have totally lost the plot the way Berdych let the advantage slip in the second set tiebreak. By the way how horrific was the linesman call made on 6-5* in the tie break of the second set.

Exactly. Which is why I found myself slightly cheering for the Djoker today, because I knew I'd be happy with any of the semifinalists winning besides Nadal. And I do think Novak would have had a pretty decent shot against Nadal if he made the final. But it's hard to see Nadal losing at this stage because mentally he's such a giant compared to these little boys. Can't fathom Berdych taking out Nadal in his first ever GS final, so IMO it's all up to Murray to save Wimbledon from being captured by lackluster clay court tennis (with good lefty grass court serving).

Not that fantastic quality, no, but you have to admit a dramatic second set tiebreak. So far that was the highlight of today, and I hope Murray/Nadal surpasses it.

The "two points" that Nole played at 5-6 (and he was really screwed over by that ridiculous overrule by the umpire) were two of the best points of his career. Poise under pressure and confidence in defense and offense reminiscent of the 2007-2008 Nole. But I think the longer the tiebreak went, the more and more winded he became. You could tell that he was very tired as he served that fatal final double fault. No more energy. Could have gotten the job done earlier in the tiebreak when he had his chances but too much pushing off the forehand wing.

Hopeless match by Djokovic. From reading a few reports I gather that he played better in the last couple of rounds, but certainly the only other match I watched of him at Wimbledon (vs. Rochus) was almost as poor. He just doesn't seem capable of stringing decent performances together anymore, and whilst he will be the world #2 on Monday, that is certainly a flattering ranking for him. Todd Martin may be a decent man and a player who maximised his own tennis abilities, but imo his coaching (of the serve) has ruined Djokovic. :spit:

Berdych played well in patches, but he was there for the taking in much of the 2nd set and the early part of the 3rd set. I was quite impressed by how well he recovered from that dreadful tiebreak choke...lost 4 straight points from *6/2 but then rediscovered his serve as easily as flicking a light switch.

A well deserved first Grand Slam final, and hopefully he will play himself a little bit into contention. Very hard to see him beating the Nadal of today though.

Djokovic looked like he wasn't even in it in the match against Berdych. What was up?

greg garber (1:29 PM): The usual Djokovic performance. Seemed to have issues breathing again.

Berdych deserved the win today without a doubt and he should be proud of what he has achieved already. Djokovic was pretty bad, his form in the earlier rounds returned today.

Congrats Tomas on the first slam final. :yeah: Importantly, he has won matches in this tournament not being at his best. Hopefully he will play up to his level on Sunday.

Mediocre match, if this indeed was a 'match' at all...
Berdych came out firing on all cylinders, leaving Djoko barely any chances in the 1st set. The 2nd set, however, saw the Infamous Birdshit Choke-jobs coming around again, especially in the TB (blowing a 6*-2 lead :o), which he eventually still managed to bag because of even worse choking by his opponent. :o
Berdych continued shaky at the beginning of the 3rd set, but as soon as he found back his groove (read: his 1st serve most of all), there was no doubt whatsoever as who would end up being the winner of this match.

Despite some choke jobs once again, Berdych's mental strength has obviously changed for the better in the past 6 months or so. Earlier on, he might have well lost that TB, and lost the match thereafter. Not this time - he wove the bloopers off of him, straightened his back, and took the match in great style. Well done Tomas - and so many congrats on your first ever GS final. I've waited a long time for it to come, and finally... it's there! :bounce:
And, completely irrelevant, but I feel the need to say it: LUCIE! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Djokovic - not a shadow of the guy that once took the AO in such a commanding fashion. Okay, the circumstances might not have been the best for him today, but still... whatever Todd Martin tied to do to make him a better player, I fail to see it. Rather than that, I do see that he's been messing up Djoko's serve more than anything. Get rid of him asap, Nole! :(
Happy to see Kim Sears back.

This Wimbledon has been far more about Berdych's mentality than his actual performances, although he's played well in every match so far his mental side has been incredibly strong.

Expected. With Federer playing far from his level and facing Djokovic, who isn't that good on grass, this was a good draw for Berdych.

Mission accomplished. Getting a set from Nadal is good enough.

Novak was too passive at times, his ROS was woeful, played the big points terribly and his serve let him down (DF on SP in set 2, DF on BP in set 3).

Still, an encouraging tournament for him because he did play some good tennis. The grass really doesn't compliment his game and he tends to roll his forehand too much because of the low bounce. Tomas served well and punished Novak anytime he had a chance. Amazing tournament for him.

Chokeovic really should retire. When your slump goes for over 2 years and only seems to be getting worse, and yet you go up the rankings by gaming the system with joke MM wins, all your doing is making the rankings a joke. Not good for tennis having this mug at #2.

As for the match, just awful from Djokomug but who would have guessed

Federer when healthy would still deal with the both of them.

Tired from what?
From being The Nole, obviously.

Really, I was surprised to see Berdych falling over breathless a few times during this match. If he's tired from getting the runaround by Djokovic he's going to be in for a world of hurt when Nadal gets a hold of him.

What the hell is wrong with Faker's forehand? He was swinging as hard as he could and they were going nowhere, and every time he tried the chip charge tactic I wanted to impale my eye with a chopstick.

very disappointed with novak yesterday. he had such a good chance to play the finals but blew it. tomas was beatable, and there was no chance he was going to play as good as against federer. but he simply played with the right frame of mind, with 'intent' to win  djokovic played like 'see what happens'. thats not right man.

I finally had the courage to finally the result of the match. I really thought he lost but I couldn't bare to see the result until now. Thank You Tomas, I don't care now if you lost. I'm just so happy with this result:yippee:.
