Rafa vs Novak grand slam final. Finally?

Everko

I thought we would be seeing this a lot but have yet to see it. Will this finally be the time? I think so, with Rafa and Nole both playing great tennis.

This would be a dream final to many many fans, as both players are good for the sport and its good to see Djokovic back on track.

what is exactly good for the sport? the fact that neither one is a player you hate?

I'd like to see them going at it in a Slam final, because they have never faced each other, thing is, another Nole loss could hit him again in his confidence and another Rafa loss can set the alarms on his physical state

Can't wait for the HC season to begin.

That being said Birdie will destroy Nole's serve and end his pathetic draw. Murray will dismantle claydull and will win his first GS over Birdie in his first final.

French open 2010 is going to be repeated in this years wimbledon.

In the french this year a hard hitting soderling defeated top seed defending champion federer in the quarterfinal stage, made the finals and lost to Rafa Nadal.

In wimbledon this year a hard hitting berdych defeated top seed defending champion federer in the quarterfinal stage, will make the finals and lose to Rafa Nadal.

The Triology gets completed:

2008 - Rafa wins french + Wimbledon
2009 - Fed wins french + wimbledon
2010 - Rafa wins french and Wimbledon

One thing is true: Novak is an uncomfortable opponent for Federer. Their matches have always been close with tiebreaks and all. Plus Djokovic is peaking now on his game... anything could happen. If he plays cold-headed and focused he can perfectly take care of Roger, as he showed in the last two sets in Toronto. He must step on the court like he owns it and then he will be fine.

in 07 was a very close 3 sets, something like 76 76 74, point here point there. in 08 was 4 sets with djoker getting f-up with all that roddick shite 2 rounds before. last year was straights for fed, djoker couldnt have done anything evenhad he payed better (and he wasnt nothing special). hard seing fed play as good as he did last year in uso semis.

Monfils is by far the easiest Finals opponent for Nadal, even last year when Nadal was injured he dominated Monfils after the 1st set, and Monfils was completely throwing in the towel by the start of the 4th set with zero energy left. Group that with the fact it would be Monfils first GS Final, and you have a massacre.

Taken by the word "specialist" literal definition, Nadal is a claycourt specialist, in terms of being "an expert" of the surface and the best claycourter ever (next to Borg). But he's also better than everyone else on grass and one of the better hardcourt players.

Nole fan
09-07-2010, 01:29 AM
Don't twist words out of context.

Q. When you think about Roger and Rafa and their head to heads, Rafa has the big advantage. In your mind, why do you think Nadal has such a big lead in their matches against one another?

NOVAK DJOKOVIC: It's hard to say. Nadal is, I guess, one of the very few players Roger maybe doesn't like to play because of his physical ability on the court. He's lefty and he produces a lot of spin with the ball and gets to his backhand. I mean, he's gonna answer the question better, I guess. But maybe that was the case in recent years. You know, again, it depends from the surface, as well. On the faster surface and hard courts Roger has more chance, but Nadal has improved so much in last couple of years on grass. I mean, winning two Wimbledons is just amazing for someone that is a clay court specialist.

That's the truth, right?

Federer has only ever lost to 10 left-handers apart from Nadal. I don't see why people say Nadal being a left-hander is a big deal in the matchup with Federer. Federer's record vs left-handers outside of Nadal is staggeringly good.

I watched the match also, and so did most of MTF and it wasn't "constant unforced errors". It was a competitive and decent quality match which sadly for djokovic didn't look like he could win.

He could have perfectly won, a couple of points here or there. Don't underrate him. He was kicking fed's butt in 90% of the rallies. He was just unlucky he had such a bad start. I hope next time he comes firing on all cylinders from the first moment his steps on court.

It always comes down to luck when mentionning Federer wins anyway

Federer has only ever lost to 10 left-handers apart from Nadal. I don't see why people say Nadal being a left-hander is a big deal in the matchup with Federer. Federer's record vs left-handers outside of Nadal is staggeringly good.

True, so let me help you out. It's the COMBINATION of left-handedness, metronomic accuracy, & the biggest top-spin in history.

Also don't forget, Nadal is the only first-class left-hander on the tour in the last decade. Most top players have excellent records against left-handers other than Nadal, because most recent left-handers are shit.

That's my point, its a lot more than Nadal being a left-hander, yet I've heard commentators say "Nadal being a left-hander helps a lot in this matchup" when being a left-hander means nothing without the freak gifts of Nadal to add to it. Pure talent is what separate's Nadal from Federer. Federer has orthodox talents, while Nadal has freak talents (greatest topspin forehand ever, and most powerful backhand passing shot in the game).

Nadal is the best left-hander of the open era.

But there is a weird combination problem. The match-up is bad. Extremely bad, to say otherwise is stupid.

Point 1) Federer has a single-handed backhand - this is getting rare for newer, younger players. The single-handed backhand is a defensive/neutral weapon. Offensively it's not great, it's particularly useful in getting the ball back safely cross court.

Slice is also used, which Nadal has no problem dealing with.

It's particularly poor when returning balls high on the backhand.

Point 2) This goes to Nadal's forehand. Which is the best topspin forehand in the game.

Point 3) Moonballing. Federer is an aggressive player, he plays his shots, it also means he has more errors. Against Nadal that's particularly risky. Since he will make fewer Ues

Other left handers don't have the combination of brilliant forehand and good movement.

Nadal is an exceptional player, but equally the match-up is bad.

They're right though. If Nadal was right handed, his top spin FH will go to Fed's FH, and that's won't be a problem for him. Nadal said it himself in an interview, "If I go to the FH, he kill me, no?".

A vaguely sensible posting in spite of itself. The left-handedness, accuracy, & extreme top-spin are all NECESSARY conditions of Nadal's ability to hurt Federer. None is SUFFICIENT by itself.

Novak would be quite devastated though, should he lose that famous semi against Fed even though he seems to have found his serve and his old cockiness back. But people tend to overlook that, just being overconfident about Novak's chances against Fed. The dude has not beaten a single top 10 player so far this season, so although I too think he's playing great at the moment, people getting ahead of themselves is quite funny to me.

This is why I can't see him getting to the final, he has been able to get to QFs and SFs all season but he is lacking in confidence enough to beat the top guys right now. I suppose the streak will have to end sometime, but against Fed who he has lost to here the last three years, only winning one set? I don't see it. If it is Soderling though he could do it.

The 10mph increase in his serve would easily be the difference between winning and losing.

Hard though this may be to believe for somebody whose interest in tennis extends no further than using Nadal to troll about Federer, he was talking about another player. You probably won't have heard of him though.

Only someone obsessed with Federer would assume a Nadal fan only likes Nadal because of him owning Federer. Nadal's mastery over Federer is only a bi-product of his unmatched talent. I appreciated Nadal's tennis for his clay success, not his emerging domination on other surfaces.

If Federer's game really has slipped, and he forgets how to play, and how to win, and Novak can raise his game to championship level...yeah, Novak could meet Rafa in the final.

I don't see it, though. Novak is comfortable being an overrrated mug. He lost his fire as soon as he won the AO and the money, etc, started rolling in.
