Both were equally matched in the first and second sets, but then Murray was just too good and consistent for Tsonga. Some cracking winners by both players, overall good match. NID that Andy would win, though. Nadull next, should be fun :yeah:

Tsonga had a two sets to love lead on his racket, shit himself, and then promptly stopped giving a fuck.

Not a good reflection on this sport.

1st two sets were a strong contest between the two. Murray kept his level, Tsonga did not, started up again with his loose, low percentage style.

Tsonga wins the 2nd, he wins the match. He's a great front runner. He doesn't like to battle from behind, why in the hell do you think it took him so long to play a 5 setter? He gets behind he loses interest. Murray stepped his game up big in the end though. Jo had no answer, but good to see Tsonga act with class at the net as always. Good sportsmanship from both.

The leave at 5-5 in the second set TB cost Tsonga very dearly indeed. Rush of blood to the head and 30 seconds later it was one set all. From then the match had only one winner, Murray's perserverence was impressive though considering the nature of Tsonga's onslaught in the first two sets. Another Wimbledon semi for him. :yeah:

Good performance from Murray in the end. Tsonga served to the Murray forehand far too often. Once Andy began to pick that, it was curtains.

Horrendous leave from Tsonga in the tiebreak. He'd done something to his hand just before that, which may have contributed, and you could see after he lost belief totally.

Murray was awful, although the serve was OK (unlike vs Querrey). Totally gifted away the first set tiebreak, and ditto donating back a break lead with lame errors in the 2nd.

Nadal could never be Martina with his one-dimensional style of pig squealing + mud balls. He doesn't have the talent to possess the arsenal of Martina and Murray. Don't ever mention Nadal's muppet name with Martina again. Nadal is on the level of Cilic and only just barely.

it's bad decision making.

either way it wasn't exactly in Murray's hands.

I'm simply saying that I'm concerned at how close Murray came to losing that second set. I was not at all happy with how he played the first two sets, it seemed to me that once again he only really got aggressive when his opponent dipped in form in the third set onwards. Murray does know what he needs to do vs Rafa, it's a question of execution and consistency and how well Rafa plays.

If Murray rips a backhand and it goes into the net, that's not in Tsonga's hands. Luck has very little to do with tennis, unless there's a bunch of netcords that change the match.

Tsonga pretty much gifted Murray the second set, and it was NID after that. Tsonga ahead 2-0 would have made this a MUCH different match. Murray played well throughout the match, served better than usual, but Tsonga showed through the first two sets that you can hit through Murray and beat him if you keep it inside the lines. With that said, Murray is showing a consistent high level that makes him a real threat to win this event.

Yes, he would have given some troubles to Murray but he would have not beaten him. :spit: So nevermind if he was injured, he is a loser , just like all the Frenchies.

I was at this match but missed a large part of the 1st set. Have to say, I'm surprised by the good sentiment towards Muzza here. I thought he was pretty atrocious. Standing 8 feet behind the baseline, just pushing to Jo's backhand, and essentially hoping to hit miracle passing shots, and run everything down. He was hitting some more of those special WTA 2nd serves. That 2nd set TB win was extremely lucky, and he only really pushed on, and played solid when Tsonga collapsed.

To be honest, I felt there was something more wrong with Jo, because he just couldn't find first serves for a while, and absolutely collapsed. I thought I would see some more fight.

Muzza really needs to shape up in the next round, if he can't play strong/aggressive tennis, he'll have no chance against Rafa.

I thought he wasn't great for the first two sets too - he could just have easily ended up two sets down.

He will play strong/aggressive tennis though or will try to - he knows that is his only chance against Nadal.

I agree with you rhinoo somewhat, 1st 2 sets was up to Tsonga had he made that Fh volley ay 5 all in TB instead of leaving it its quite possible we'd have a different Semifinalist. murray was tentative and only started playing well when he got comfortable.

This match was like the Roddick semifinal last year where the start of the 3rd set was crucial Jo fended of so many BP, but eventually Murray broke, last year SF vs Roddick Murray had several BPs early in 3rd but failed to convert and that was the turning point.

I wouldnt say Andy took the bull by the horns and won this match the way his fans might have wanted him to but he showed alot of mental strength and played the big points well. I am so glad he is not playing Soderling next round.

I was probably being too harsh, can be different watching live. Alot of people around me were pretty much saying the same. We know Muzza will go for it against Rafa. It just seemed like he was playing ugly enough tennis that it brought the whole match and Tsonga down, from which Jo never recovered, and Andy just went from strength to strength. His anticipation and defensive skills were obviously fantastic as always.

We all know that he'll have to go for it against Rafa, but it can always be hard to shift to that aggressive game, when you're too passive from the start. Same issue as always really.

I'm probably disappointed as I wanted to see an epic 5 setter, and Jo get the win.

Apart from an improvement in his serve, this was Murray's weakest performance to date in my opinion. He got the job done, but against Nadal he will need to get back to his AO form.

sadly he didnt...i wanted him to be tested before the semi sometimes its not good to win every match 3:0 expecially if you are Murray but i expected more to be honest in that first two sets

at least he survived a dangerous situation..it brings alot of confidance

As I can't stand Tsonga or his hit and hope approach it's hard to be objective.I still resent people calling a match where Murray won more points a drubbing.

I thought for the 3rd time in a row Murray played poorly against Tsonga.I reckon Berdych should they meet would fatigue permitting be favourite.

Emphatic match point, I say. When you nail those you look sharp. When you don't, well, nobody cares nowhere near as much either positively or negatively.

Seizing the moment is the way.

Tsonga was having some huge brain farts in those last two sets. The look on his face reminded me of that scared look Clijsters used to get when she was losing a match and switching to auto-pilot/robot mode.

Congrats to Murray, though. Tsonga, please get it together dude!

It always amazes me at how this match was a turning point for the both of them. Andy goes to end the year in the top four and make a Slam Final. While Gasquet drops in the rankings, had a big scandal, and is now struggling to come back.

Shows how much momentum can swing in this sport.

Just like the Gasquet match a couple of years ago I don't think Murray really "won" the match as in dominating or outplaying his opponent. His opponent blew chances and tightened up and completely fell apart mentally and Murray capitalized on that. Would have been probably different if Tsonga won the second set. It was the way he lost the second tie breaker that really made him completely disintegrate in the last 2 sets. Murray didn't have to do anything special in the last 2 sets, Tsonga did all the work for Murray.

It was a very different match.
In this one,you never felt Tsonga was really dominating Murray at any time contrary to the Gasquet match where despite the close scoreline(which really flattered Murray),it was obvious to anyone watching this match that Gasquet was completely dominating Murray during the first two sets and in most part of the third.
