Would it be good for Tennis if Berdych beat Federer in the Wimbledon Quarterfinal?

This follows on from the Soderling v Nadal question that has been posed by Orgamastron. Do you think it would be good for Tennis if Federer lost tomorrow?

I think it would be good for Tennis. In the same way Venus lost today, it would open up the draw and make the event more exciting with some new faces in the semifinal. What do you think?

No. Federer is tennis, will be better to have him in yet another semi. Then again, Berdych winning would be a fresh thing to happen, just like in RG. Berdych, Lu, Murray and Soderling will be a great semi final line up, though it would be better with Federer the GOAT.

roger that. i would add that federer is an authentic grass court player, while nadal is not. so it would be a bigger loss for the tourney if federer lost than if nadal the dirtballer did.

have you ever even thought about why that happened? if you are a tard im sure you havent. ask anyone on this board, accept those who started watching tennis yesterday(and the tards for that matter), whether wimby is what it used to be and they will tell you no. on actual grass nadal have no chance in hell against the GOAT on grass, in fact he wont even make the final. learn something about tennis old sport.

lol did you watch tennis only during federer era? Sampras was the best grasscourt player he even won against federer in exho recently although not on grass(couple of yrs ago) sampras at its prime in wimbledon is better than federer. I will bet you during the 90s sampras will own federer on wimbledon(although fed won his last encounter against pete in 5sets)

In some ways it would be good. Berdych has a more layered game than some of the other ballbashers and it would be good if a decent talent like him made a real breakthrough - & a real breakthrough is basically beating Fed or Nadal in a slam. At the same time, Federer is one of the finest talents in the history of the sport and his days are numbered, so we want to see him at the business end of slams whenever we still can.

Well yeah I guess, but Berdych's not playing him. And when it comes down to it, Nadal is in the Connors mould whereas Federer is in the McEnroe mould. Both are great, & Connors & Nadal are warriors who fight extraordinarily compelling battles, but Fed & Mac are geniuses who exhilarate & take the breath away with incredible skill.

All depends on what you value. I was much sadder to see a fighter like Chang decline than a guy like Rios.

And Federer is not going anywhere, people are acting like he is on his death bed. He will be a slam threat for at least another 2-3 years.

Of course, but his legacy will always be diminished a little bit (even more by the future generations that won't have the chance to watch him live) because he was the pigeon of his main rival. I'm pretty sure Fed would trade at least 2 slams for an even H2H.

Isn't that implicitly equating "Winning a Grand Slam" with "Winning a match against Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal"?

Judging from the facial expression and body language of the players who beat Federer or Nadal, I'd say you have a valid point.

Seriously though, I hope Berdych wins the whole thing. If not him, then Soderling. I've always had great expectations for these guys since before Nadal won any slams. It would be gratifying to see my hopes finally come true.

Not anyone's fault if Rafa wasn't good enough to make more finals off clay during Fed's best years: he was too young, now Fed's too old – in a way, it all comes down to age difference.

I think so, because in my honest opinion, a win over Fed in a Grand Slam would be far more meaningful and a huge confidence booster for Tomas. I like the guy and he has a hell of a game. He's always had the talent, but never had the mental toughness it takes to win. Now, he's become a much different person and a better player. Seeing him take out the best player ever on his most comfortable surface would be an amazing accomplishment. I hope he plays a hell of a match today.

As if Federror cares about those "lots of people" not crowning him the GOAT. All the GOAT candidates has a chink in their resumes, and in Federror's case, it's his H2H with Nadal. But then, Federror still has the strongest case.

Absolutely! Federer is the antichrist. The arrogant Swiss ballerina has already scared away millions of fans and $. His defeat is crucial and would save the sport. in fact it would catapult tennis to the next level. sponsors would be attracted to support birdshit and holy wimbledon again, which has developed into a clown context the last 7 years.

We can only pray to our heavenly father, that he is merciful today, amen.
