Why are ESPN commentators surprised when Roddick pushes??

They air all of his matches, it's always the same shit. We do they always act surprised and even think that he'll consider playing from anything other than 10 feet behind the baseline. I mean, Lu looks like Soderling or Berdych out there

 They just need to listen to themselves, they say it practically every time they do a Roddick match

Good question. Roddick always resorts to pushing. A big server usually isn't labeled a pusher. Roddick is the exception.

I think they are more surprised he is pushing against a guy who is pushing more than he is. If there was ever a match where Roddick should play aggressive this should be it. This is Monfils like.

Not surprised.

Just pissed.

Roddick's got nothing but a serve. At least on grass. They could be out there for awhile.

Pushing more? Hardly.

pmac kisses andy's ass because of davis cup. he should recuse himself due to conflict of interest.

Oh yeah.. One guy kisses Roddick's ass but when it comes to Roger, no one has a problem when every commentator borderline sucks his schlong.

Roddick truly has one of the most horrible games to watch in the history of this sport.

Mary Jo: sometimes roddick just plays too safe. he has to flatten out his forehand :o
He hasn't hit a flat shot since 2001

You would think this would be the year he could rescue himself considering Andy and James aren't playing Davis Cup

good result for tennis when roddick is dumped out of a slam.
that shuts up carillo, patrick mcenroe, pam shriver, tracy austin and the rest of the clueless geezers.

Roger doesn't earn it when he loses to nobodies left and right for most of the year. The GOAT shouldn't be tanking like that if his talent really is the greatest.

At least Roger doesn't tank the French--his worst surface according to some.

Surely schlonging on a multiple-slam winner is just slightly more justified than on others? That said, P Mac notoriously blows (no pun intended) with the wind. As soon as Mr. F is defeated, he takes on the I-told-you-so tone

Commentators often mention Rodddick when talking about power hitters. I find this mystifying.

Was trying to listen to Annacone's insight over Pmac's "Hello!"s. He was demanding that Roddick be more offensive.

It's more irritating when a guy pushes that has other options. There are a few guys doing that now but Roddick is leading the pack.

In the tennis world, pushing is seen as something that weak, girly players do. Obviously the ESPN commentators cannot just up and declare Roddick a shameless pusher even though that is exactly what he is. They have to show some kind of tact toward their compatriot (well, Darren Cahill doesn't). I would love to see Pam Shriver give it to him like she did to Blake.

Kindly keep it shut. Duck's fan will be allowed to open his mouth and say anything slightly derogatory of Roger only when the Duck achieves 15% of what Roger has done.

Now we just need a Lu-Tsonga men's final and a Kvitova-Pironkova women's final and maybe they'll all shut up...

ESPN's commentators are kind of pathetic. Before every slam, it's the same thing: "This is Roddick's turn! He's got the game to win!"

Then Roddick loses yet again, and they're like, "Well, maybe he's a bit of an overachiever." "He really plays too passive most of the time."

But you can bet by the time the U.S. Open rolls around, they'll be back saying he's a favorite to win it.
