As much as i dont like Djokovic, bar the health problems he played extremely well. Hewitt gifted him the deciding break in the 4th.

Hewitt

Novak was solid and did well to hold out a fighting Hewitt. Djoko looked like he was dying out there at times with that breathing problem.

I hope he is ok and it was only a temporary flare up because he is finally finding form and confidence.

Watching this match I have to wonder -again- why people continue to tout Hewitt as one of, if not THE most mentally tough players on tour still. In 3 of the 4 sets he played Novak close right up until the end only to gift a break. Novak's condition went down considerably after the 2nd set when he was playing extremely well and I think Hewitt would have eeked it out in 5, but Novak was the mentally stronger player in this match. Hewitt has some game still but it's not big enough against the top players and now that his fabled grit is a thing of the past I really don't see him making big inroads at Slams anymore.

omg, lleyton, what was with all those UE on the big points? lleyton beat himself more than novak beating lleyton.
sick forehand winner by novak to finish it off though, that was sick.

but lets get back to disappointing play by lleyton, last game of 2nd set, a smash halfway up the net, and then a DF, u can not do that against the #3 player. and up 30-0 at 4-4 4th set, then more UE's, and ends it with a DF too.

novak with that stomach problem/heat getting to him, i really was wondering if the match was going to go to a 5th set, but luckily for novak's sake, he was saved from a 5th set torture.

good luck to novak, lu or roddick awaits in the QF.

I think going into the service game in which he was broke in that 4th set Hewitt previous 3 service games were love games? Novak broke out of nowhere, a combination of Hewitt choking and Novak giving his all towards that one service game.

This 4th round is great! Some great games going on and Rafa is just about to hit the court.

I agree with you. He was very lucky to win his tiebreak with Monfils, and when he played against Djokovic in 2007 he lost three tiebreaks and was absolutely terrible in all of them. I love Lleyton, but it's quite obvious that he really feels the pressure these days, and for the last 3/4 years.

Yeah Hewitt needs to keep his mouth shut. Poor loser remark about saying there is always some wrong with Djokovic.

can you imagine what the score would've been if there had been nothing wrong with nole ;)

 Some people seem to never let this go, fed lost fair and square, doesn't matter what he had..He stepped on the court to play, if he had mono he wouldn't have been able to reach the SF's of a grandslam.

Pathetic game from Rusty at 4-4 in the fourth but Djoker was good in those first two sets. Missed opportunity for Hewitt to not take advantage of Nole fading away.

i thought that win against Roddick in New York08 was quite big

Really thought this was winnable for Hewitt, that was pretty much his swansong as he came into this tournament in the best form he has been for a couple of years and still couldn't beat a top 5 player in a slam

Expected Hewitt to win this. Unlike last year the better grass player failed to win. From what I saw Hewitt didn't volley enough, but this has been the case for his entire career.

Oh my god! How could Hewitt lose that match? In fact: How could he lose serve at the beginning of the 4th set?
Djokovic was done!

Sometimes Hewitt doesn't do enough. That's why he is more successful on grass because he is more aggressive than on hardcourt. But when Djokovic struggled physically he didn't take the chance. What a chance for a Grand-Slam semifinal... :-(

novak is atrocious match up for hewitt; everything lleyton can do, nole does 10 times better.

Djokovic's celebration in the end was epic. Spontaneous, crazy, emotional, no matter how many disappointments and let downs he has had in the last couple of years, it's moments like these that make it all worth it for me. :worship:

Roddick in the USO 08 quarters is a decent enough scalp.

nole was so pissed at that match, it was a joy to see him dump that 'I love you and I want to have children with you' attitude he usually has towards other players. he also played very well.

Hopefully the comments he made yesterday about not caring anymore what others say, is a sign that the old Nole, attitude wise, is back. Fist pump your chest, silence the crowd, hail the King as dead, that's when you were at your best. The US Open '09 semis was disappointing on so many levels, not for the lose, but the way he carried himself around Federer, almost none of the confidence and belief he had in '08 was left in him. If you get another crack at him this time around, I want to see the old Nole take it to him.

From Novak's last presser...

After belting a winner to seal his win over Lleyton Hewitt and book himself a spot in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic let out a roar and tore the collar of his white shirt, which he then ripped off his body.

"That was a great moment," Djokovic's coach, Marian Vadja, told ESPN.com. "I felt I haven't seen that for months, maybe a year. I'm really pleased he's showing and expressing himself."

Let's hope that brings a change of attitude and we have old Nole back.
