Interesting final set...some great play but Querrey should've closed it out sooner. Malisse fought well and I thought he was going to win when he broke back for 5-5. Otherwise, both were hitting tremendous shots.

Go take out Murray :)

Oh and that second serve down 6-7 0-30 or whenever it was...clutch.

Malisse inconsistent as usual but nearly got it done by playing his best in the big moments. Querrey found the serves when needed to as well however, what made the difference in the end. Not a classic Malisse choke.
Good luck to Sam against Murray.

Hopefully, Querrey will finally enter the top 20 following this win.

He would, but on other side of the net was Big Sam Querrey!

Seriously great and highly entertaining tennis match. Some of the shots were amazing, particularly the forehands from both.

Great fight, and credit to both players.

Awesome match! Both players played well, and the shotmaking was excellent.

Well done Sam :yeah: Now please take out Murray! :bounce:

US are finally getting one serious tennis player. Obviuosly has a good streak on grass now and I think he can continue it against Muzza -> His joke draw ended today

good fight from X-man in the final set
he played really well to break Querrey at 5-4
but then as usual made a couple of stupid mistakes to give it back later

Okay, a bit frustrated to see Malisse lose this one (be warned when reading this post, if you don't want to hear me whine about X-man, skip it ;)).

As usual, he made the most beautiful, entertaining and spectacular shots out there.
But, as usual, he cannot deliver on the key moments and got too tentative there or didn't make some makable shots. He did save a very respectable number of breakpoints throughout the match, but in the fifth set, he could never build on his momentum. He broke Querrey 3 times (last game of the 4th, 2nd and 10th game of the 5th), and 2 out of 3 times he got broken right back, the 3rd time a few games later. That to me is proof of mental frailty (I know, nothing new, but still frustrating). He's much worse at being a forefront runner than when he is with his back against the wall. A real shame. But kudos to Querrey for toughing it out (props to the 2nd serve ace at 0-30 as well).

I've never understood why Xavier doesn't put the bar higher for himself. He is too easily satisfied. He could easily be top-30/20 if he'd have the same work ethic, mind set as some of the other top guys. If only he'd work on staying on his baseline more for the whole match, he could already be much more dominant. But the consistency will just never be there I guess.

Still happy he's close to his best form again, and hoping for him to have a good season! Thanks guys for giving us a great match :yeah:

Over 300 posts bitching about this and that in the Nadal/Petzschner thread, and for this fantastic match there's only 16

I can only assume not many people saw it!

Was there an ace at 0-30? I think the second serve ace was actually at 30-30 in that game (in which case I was wrong too)...it was incredible though...127 mph and if he missed it, it would've been match point for Malisse. It actually seemed like Malisse fought quite well to stay in the match, he's quite talented, and I wish I saw more of him when he was more in his prime

Some can multitask ;) This was up there for one of the best matches this week outside of Isner-Mahut of course...it's a shame so many missed it. I've never been an absolutely huge fan of Sam, but he's growing on me a lot.

You're right, the ace was probably on 30-30. All I remembered was it was a huge point on the duece side which would have given Malisse a matchpoint :p. Impressive by Querrey, hope he can trouble Murray.

Probably the 2nd best match I've seen at this wimby. Sam still tends to get passive and starts playing not to lose when matches get tight.

Querrey almost goes 5 with Dodig, and almost loses in 5 to Mallisse, playing brainless tennis at times in both matches and people talk about him beating Murray?

4-0 H2H 8-0 sets, Querrey got to one breaker.

Only if Murray starts playing like a mug again then I suppose it could be close.....

Did you watch the matches? Malisse was playing quite well, Querrey had spurts where he was scary good. I don't know if he's quite ready to beat Murray at Wimbledon, but he's dangerous
