Pretty sad one of them has to lose.

maybe they have agreed prior to the match to have both of them entering into record books... so they just don't try too hard to break each other's serve in the final set... and keep going on and on and on.... :silly:

Both of these two deserve an eternity of respect from everybody for this show of both mental strength commitment and stamina.

Mahut is the ultimate fighter :worship: Beating Boggo 24-22 in the 3rd set, then coming back from 0-2 against Koubek and now this. The ultimate fitness machine. Nadal pales in comparison imo.

I feel really bad for Isner, but what a champion he is :worship: The true epitome of mental strength and commitment to the game. And after all that fight, he might not get the ace record (Mahut is really catching up), a true pisstake. Rest up, John, you absolute champion :yeah:

If you live to be 100 there will never be a tennis match like this again, these records will probably never be matched, they didn't just break the old records, they smashed them into atoms.

I started watching (again) from 6-6 in the final set after watching some of it yesterday and stuck with it for 6 hours myself today, I am exhausted so how they must feel is beyond description.

The whole match defies description, actually.

Just two breaks of serve in the entire match. Aside from their excellent serves they are very poor players. It may break all the records but it ain't pretty and it's nothing to be proud of.
Bullshit  :o
Mah ut plays beautiful grass court tennis. His volley is unbelievable. I like Isner a lot, but I wanna see Mahut on grass more if he is not tired.
I think it'll be better if Mahut wins. I think he'll have enough in the tank to beat De Bakker. Isner on the other hand, will be too tired, imo.

John said "Mahut was serving amazing, and I was serving amazing..."

Both were obviously tired, though Mahut looked in better shape. John wasn't being rude.

Ok, that's what I though. As I said, my stream was shit, and for a second I got the impression that he is rude, maybe due to some argument whether to play or not. But good to be wrong.

That Mahut guy though is so incredibly fit and spirited. Nice to have in the history of tennis :)

And the most amazing thing, other than this being over nine hours long and just the fifth set over six hours, is the fact that both men still played their hearts out in those last games, unbelievable. To see Mahut diving to get a ball and Isner delivering ace after ace when he couldn't even move his feet is nothing short of incredible. It was almost like seeing two gladiators battling out in the arena. It's a shame one has to lose. But at least both players now have made history in tennis despite their rankings or lack of victories. They must be so proud, we all should. I have the feeling this Wimbledon tournament will be very special.

Exactly...it's gotten kind of predictable...but definitely in a good way. For instance, you knew that when Mahut was down any of the 4 match points, that he would find a way to win the point. You knew Isner would somehow find the forehand or some shot when the serves were 100 mph.

The rallies have been great...there have been plenty of aces, but I think there's been a bunch of good short points. And who would've guessed that the longest rallies would come in something like the 100th game of the 5th set? :spit:

It's what makes the drama great. Though, you have to give credit to both. Some of the serving in crucial moments has been unreal.

Isner definitely looked terrible on the returns as he tired, just couldn't even get his feet set, split step, and do anything, not like it's a strength.

And practically everytime Mahut had a chance on Isner's serve, even when John looked like he'd collapse, he'd hit 2nd serve aces, or bombs. Just sick.

Yes. He didn't want to make a fuss about it, but clearly wanted to play on. Mahut insisted. But after such a long halt, as the commies said, it probably wasn't fair to ask Isner to serve.

Just two breaks of serve in the entire match. Aside from their excellent serves they are very poor players. It may break all the records but it ain't pretty and it's nothing to be proud of.

So sad that you can't appreciate something extraordinary when it happens right in front of your eyes. Too bad that you feel the need to denigrate it rather than celebrate.

Isner said that "We couldn't agree whether to continue or not."...which insinuates that Mahut wanted to quit while Isner wanted to keep going. Maybe a little dickiness in that statement.

Wrong. None at all.

From what I heard it seemed that Mahut was complementing Isner, while the latter was just talking bout himself and how well he has served.

Not at all what Isner said.

Absolutely incredible, no words. It's difficult to focus just watching those two play game after game after game. Eternal respect to both for all the heart. Mahut diving for an uncatchable ball at 58:58 is a tennis moment of the year for me.

Yes. :) And Isner smiling/laughing in appreciation.

Did you say epic? Yeah, EPIC. Center court now, please.

Should be. But, won't.

And anyway -- it was the outer court crowd's match. They should be the ones to enjoy the end and not the swells in the royal box. :p

Isner is still scheduled to play doubles later on tomorrow.

So is Mahut. He plays doubles with Clement.

Mahut is aging well

also they've played so much that grass is totally gone and it looks like clay

Nah, When it got to 200-200, They just decided, along with relaxing the clothing rules, to turn Wimby into another clay court slam. All that did was make the rallies longer, so it's taken 2000 more games to decide it.

One of the greatest things of the Match:

/WE/ saw it. Not those rich bitches who pay hundreds and thousands of dollars to watch on Centre Court. WE did; the ones who work for endless hours for a decent wage and only had enough to get a ticket to see the outside courts.

If it does get to Centre Court; good for Mahut and Isner because it's VERY WELL deserved. But while those big-money people may see the ending, we saw everything we needed to see in a legend of a match.

No big top ten players. No queen or royalty. IT WAS OUR MATCH.

Yes I am going to celebrate hundreds of games of great serves and otherwise poor movement and poor shots (particularly on Isner's side). I am not a simpleton who is impressed only by big numbers. If a soccer match ends in a 27-26 score then that might make history but it sure as hell wouldn't be a good game. This match is the same.

when the match ends i shall shed a manly tear, it will have been a priviledge

i watched england bearly quaify with its overpaid mugs footballers who have no heart (except John Terry who is all heart)

and now ze germans have a walk over to the quaters, typical (damn germans)

but at least i watched this epic today, the world cup just doesnt seem as important anymore
