James Blake surgery

Why is James reluctant to undergo knee surgery? His friend Mardy Fish had his knee operated as well as Serena Williams. It is still a better option for him than playing in pain.

From what I heard he is a really big health nut and does not believe in surgery especially at this point in his career. He also does not take any antiinflammatories because he does not like the side effects. I think he lacks the motivation and the drive it takes to come back from a surgery. James seems to have given up on his career and has hinted that this summer will be his last.

But Gonzalez who is almost the same age has tendonitis in both knees and is eager to recover and continue. So why is James so depressed?

Different paths. James had loads of physical issues throughout his life and it's really great what he managed to accomplish given the circumstances. May be he just doesn't feel like fighting anymore.

His whole career has been based around peaks and valleys. Once you reach the age of death at tennis (30), it's hard to get up for those moments again. Seriously, someone asks you to describe James Blake's career, just show them a pendulum.

Something is strange in my opinion. As I remember last year during his match vs. Seppi at Wimbledon and vs. Cilic in Davis Cup he took some pills when he had his toe injured and stomach upset. This pills had to be some kind of antiinflammatories. So there is some contradiction in James statements, where is the truth?

I guess he made an exception and it was a horrible experience for him and now he is no longer willing to turn to pills.
