WR1: Novak Djokovic (3) - Olivier Rochus 3:2 (4:6, 6:3, 3:6, 6:4, 6:2)theblejach 06-21-2010, 09:58 PM Tennis Drama!!! ;) MIMIC 06-21-2010, 09:59 PM Upset djiwebster 06-21-2010, 09:59 PM Lol and that is only the first round. Shame on you Djokman. rocketassist 06-21-2010, 10:00 PM This was a good match overall and a bit of history (ended at 2258 BST) the latest ever finish at the Championships. Djokovic played his A game in the 5th after Rochus went 2-0 up. Not a choke like Falla's. maxxo 06-21-2010, 10:00 PM highly entertaining indoor grass smoking drama Wolfy 06-21-2010, 10:01 PM Rochus wasn't The Batman. Joker survives anotherday. Smoke944 06-21-2010, 10:01 PM The mugginess on display today has been at times simply astounding. Atrocious BP conversion by Oli and after he went up a break in the fifth he was outplayed, oh well. Boy have things changed in two years. His camp were celebrating like he just won another slam! henke007 06-21-2010, 10:01 PM How this sorry excuse of a top 3 player can MUG his way out of this with 50% 1st serves and 11 Df.s is beyond me. He belongs at the WTA tour!! l_mac 06-21-2010, 10:02 PM  Nole's on court behaviour is abhorrent. And his box - :tape: I don't care for Rochus, and don't understand why Nole has such issues with him. federernadalfan 06-21-2010, 10:02 PM nasty nasty match atrocious can't believe rochus managed to lose this. allpro 06-21-2010, 10:02 PM this was the best opening day at wimbledon that i can recall :worship: nole working on his sliding techniques on grass  :smash: Smoke944 06-21-2010, 10:03 PM  Nole's on court behaviour is abhorrent. Nole :yeah: So great to see glimpses of your brilliance  Oli  cocrcici 06-21-2010, 10:06 PM His celebrating is rather painful to watch. For You:) Drikke 06-21-2010, 10:06 PM Rochus played well in only 1 set: the 4th which he lost, Djoko really gave oli 2 sets as a present. He will loose before QF for sure Spes 06-21-2010, 10:07 PM NOVAK FOREVER. :worship: :worship: :worship: So good from 02* in the fifth. Really high quality tennis from that point on. Noleta 06-21-2010, 10:07 PM Glad he's still in it,though i hope he can improve, that was painful to watch. tangerine_dream 06-21-2010, 10:08 PM Great match to end the day. Congrats to Novak for finding a way to win. Ollie was control of the match for the most part, until he pissed Novak off, hehe. arm 06-21-2010, 10:08 PM How this sorry excuse of a top 3 player can MUG his way out of this with 50% 1st serves and 11 Df.s is beyond me. Rafa for sure, but Murray will have to make a Feder-esque effort to get dragged to 5. Kubecki 06-21-2010, 10:12 PM Only few glimpses of brilliance, unfortunately :( What do you think about his chances in this Championships? tektonac 06-21-2010, 10:13 PM c'mon Nole you can do better than that. Unsurprising it was close, given that Rochus, a talented shotmaker who might have had a shot at the Top 10 if he'd been a few inches taller, has winning record against Djokovic & knows how to play on grass, but it was good to see Djoko firing aces and return winners, playing some good aggressive groundstrokes & coming up with his best stuff when he really needed it. With any luck he has taken a step out of his slump. Andi-M 06-21-2010, 10:16 PM Really enjoyable match. The quality had peaks and troths but Nole really showed some good tennis in the 5th. His serving is terrible though he'll do well to get past 4R unless he improves. Match was played in a great spirit. Nole :o Vida 06-21-2010, 10:43 PM nobody in his right mind can say djokovic isnt a fighter :scared: now though rochus is by no means a bad player, I feel novak should be spending less time on court against him. Clydey 06-21-2010, 10:44 PM I still don't know how Djokovic has remained the world number 3. However it does make me wonder how much he could of achieved these last 2 years had he kept up his early 2008 form. Precisely. When you compare his AO 2008 form to this, you have to wonder what he could have achieved. All things considered, it's astonishing that he is still near the top. Clydey 06-21-2010, 10:56 PM I guess he hasn't had any bad injuries forcing him to miss weeks of play, whereas several of the players chasing him have. I suppose that would explain it to some extent. I imagine he'll drop a few places during the coming hardcourt season, however. I don't see him defending those points. MIMIC 06-21-2010, 11:02 PM I only saw the last 2 sets. I didn't know that Rochus lead in the H2H. Djoker played OK but still no where near good form. I've completely written him until the U.S. Open so I'm prepared to see him lose any day now. madmax 06-21-2010, 11:03 PM Mugathon:yawn: Sophocles 06-21-2010, 11:04 PM I suppose that would explain it to some extent. I imagine he'll drop a few places during the coming hardcourt season, however. I don't see him defending those points. We'll see. That's normally the best part of his season, & I personally don't think his slump will last for ever. He'll be glad to have won a close match against an opponent he has trouble with, & that could give him enough confidence to make a decent run here, which would be a springboard for the rest of the season. Hewitt is the main obstacle to that. Djokovic is seemingly subsisting on a steady diet of Quarter Finals. yeah hes been more consistent that way, thus the ranking. though he had 2 GS semifinals in last 2 years, which all in all is not too bad, but he can really do better. more and more Im thinking racket change was a big big mistake. he cant hit a flat shoot at all anymore. its like everything he throws is sitting there waiting to be smacked back. FlameOn 06-21-2010, 11:21 PM Nole. Why can't you just play good again? DuMa 06-22-2010, 12:05 AM the amount of time it took for the roof to close and turn on the light and THEN another 20 minutes to let the air circulate to get rid of the 'draft' was retarded. Rochus' camp has to be displeased with that. however in defense of the roof, tennis acoustics and lighting seems wonderful in HD when the roof is closed. very different experience of wimbledon indeed. its gonna take a while to get used to it. but taking 40 odd minutes everytime to close the roof in the middle of a match is gonna be annoying Topspin Forehand 06-22-2010, 12:06 AM What a warrior this Djokovic is. I love the roof, it looks great (both for tennis and a TV perspective), but it does take quite a while to be playable once they've decided to close it. It's probably not possible to take any quicker given it's for grass, the lighting ect but it does take quite some time. He's had easy draws in slams and masters allowing him to make QF and SF without having to play well. He has been injury free whereas Potro and Denko haven't. And recently well Murray has sucked worse than him. Hence he has retained no3. I agree, same grumblers everytime, please go pester some other player, your obsession with Djoko is nauseating. He still produces too many DFs and UEs but his winners and aces rates were impressive. When he's on, which I concede it's not most of the time, he's a wonder to watch and reminds me of the reason I was hooked on tennis in the first place. He just needs to play consistenly the way he did at spells in this match and he'll get back to normal. And all those mugs saying that he hasn't been in good form in two years, how quickly you forget his 2009 clay and end of the season which was fabulous and he displayed some brilliant tennis then.
