Carlo, do you remember the size of the qualie draw for this tournament? I am sure that Coria and Schalken will withdraw from this tournament, but I need someone in the 70's to get into qualifying. Two of them, actually.

CarloBelgium

the qualifying draw has 24 spots.

Last year the cut for the main draw was 44.
The cut for qualifying was 157.

2 years ago : MD cut : 43
Q cut : 70.

i'm pulling for andy roddick to win this. i think federer's win streak will be snapped. if andy is 100% and plays his best, he will beat roger if they meet in the final. if these two players don't make i like coria, agassi, and henman's chances.

Carlos is still listed as 'playing' at the official tournament site... I'm confused now!

Corretja or Ferrer

For third year on a row, tennis lovers have something to say on the Masters Series Madrid. The sports newspaper Marca has already started the voting to choose the player who will receive the Wild Card for the 2004 Masters Series Madrid’s final draw. In the year 2002, Feliciano López was elected; last year it was Rafael Nadal and it seems this year readers are choosing Alex Corretja or David Ferrer. Corretja had 40,6% of the votes this morning and he was closely followed by David Ferrer, who had 36,4%. Far behind, Beto Martín had more than 10%, Albert Montañés, 7,8% and David Sánchez, 4%.

where can I vote? do you have any website?

He missed Vienna in order to prepare for Madrid! Link please?

There's no way Haas would be favourite. Roddick would be if Federer doesn't play. Haas could draw him in the second round if he gets in.

where did you see the news about Lleyton pulling out?

It's from a list on SteveG's forums. Someone there gets information from the ATP player zone (not open to the public). Hewitt is on the list of withdrawls, as is Roddick.

Federer has not withdrawn according to that list as of last night US time, but he's doing a planned sponsor/media day today, so if he's not playing I'd expect him to announce it this afternoon. Personally I'd be a bit surprised if he DOESN'T play, but that's my sentiments only and not based on any inside info.

Last year the main draw was not out until Sunday. No official news on when it will be this year, I'm expecting the same time-frame.

Fee, I posted a message about Hewitt over in GM, but because I like you  I'll repeat it. He said after the US Open that he was playing only a light schedule since he had already qualified for Houston and listed Paris and Tokyo as his only definites. There was an newspaper article a few days ago saying he was in north Australia, on vacation with a buddy and going game-fishing.

It's the timing. The players, especially those in the upper ranks, are tired and/or injured and/or want to rest up for Houston. The calendar desperately needs to be redone, and until that happens, we're going to continue to see this happen in post-US Open events.

What's up with this, neither of the top 4 will be playing? Nice :(

This is really gonna be some Masters Series event without any of the big shots playing. And the tournament director said "missing three of the top 10 won't penalise this event." Yeah right! Missing the top 4 will!

That would send Agassi into retirement when nothing else would. I should just stop this silliness before I jinx JMG somehow.

Alfonso, you are quickly becoming one of my favorite people here, you naughty boy.

i'm pulling for andy roddick to win this. i think federer's win streak will be snapped. if andy is 100% and plays his best, he will beat roger if they meet in the final. if these two players don't make i like coria, agassi, and henman's chances.
:haha: :rolls:
Well, I know now that NIETHER are playing, now, so that ruins everything doesnt it. Perhaps you need a little dose of something called reality. Did you see their last match?? How easily he beat Roddick? What the h2h is. I believe Andy trails Roger 1-8, does he not? This is the 2nd time today, I've had to call you out on you're pure stupidity.

At least Tommy Haas is in now, he could be a real favourite! Do you think as many players will pull out of Paris, or will they all play the last Masters event of the year? Because I'm going to Paris and I don't want a depleted field like this tourney! Do you think that Tommy Haas will definitely play Paris too?

Gigan,
We were joking. Both alfonso and I are fully aware of JMG's record against Andre, I have a site for him for fuck's sake. Please note the use of emoticons to express just how silly our conversation was and how unlikely the very premise of Alfonso's post was.

Just because the snot-rocket king was casually mentioned as part of our joke, please don't feel the need to uselessly interject yourself into it. And save your pity for someone in the world who has real misfortune, JMG does not need it.

Okay, I can accept that and no hard feelings there. Perhaps we are having a small language problem and that happens in an international community such as this. Thanks for posting the updated entry list. :D

In San Jose Gambill should have beaten Agassi...
Agassi was on his back foot much of that match. Gambill made some very costly errors in both sets but he served better than Andre and volleyed better than him too. Ground strokes were about even I think...

Actually the only reason I would go to an Agassi match is to look at Steffi Graf  Agassi is ok but he was more fun to watch 10 years ago...

Yes, for more fun You have to wait his son or daugter now ...
You also were much better 10 years ago... Steffi will not go look on you, ...

I wish good luck for you & Jan-Michael!
