Very poor form from Lopez...saved match points in his last service game and could have at least given Ward the opportunity to score his biggest career win by right. :retard:

If he could play 18 games up to this point without his shoulder falling off, there is no reason why he couldn't have just walked around the court for the last game.

Dimitra

I hope Lalo is fine can still play in Wimby but he could at least have stayed on court for one more game.

Was that injury so serious ?

It looks like he just had the trainer on at some stage. But I understand that he continued to play afterwards, so it can't have been that serious.

It is just the principle. He could have played one more game...he didn't even have to do more than just stand there and stick his arm out on return.

Classless act.

thanx for clarifying it that.:) If it was serious or painful I could understand retiring.
But here it seems it had to do with attitude and not leting get defeated by Ward.Sad :(

Horatio Caine
06-15-2010, 05:21 PM
He might have been in a lot of pain...that I do not know. :)

But considering he had been playing games before that, and had maintained a respectable scoreline...personally I think he could, and should, have finished the match.

But anyway it is still a good win for Ward. Hopefully he will play with a good attitude against Schuettler (i.e. not give up - as in the Baggy match at Queen's last year) because sadly he is likely to be comfortably outclassed in that one.

Um...yeah.

Look, James "Nobody" Ward should just be happy that Feli was too injured to go on. This loser hasn't won or done anything, ever, and he was lucky enough to play the #2 seed while he was injured.

Give me a break. OK, so lets say Feli goes to the baseline and stands there unable to move for the ball for 4 points, so Ward could officially "win." Does Feli standing there in pain motionless make Ward's "win" any more valid than a retirement? No, it doesn't.

Ward knows he he never would have beaten a healthy Lopez, the ump knew that, the commies knew that, the viewers knew that, the crowd knew that. Period. Ward got lucky and when he loses his next round he'll be glad that he at least got that far.

Not only was his neck and back messed up, his knee was taped too. That win should go down in the books as a retirement, bc Ward's far superior opponent (that would have beaten him easily otherwise) was too injured to continue play. Bottom line. Screw the fake happy ending letting Ward serve it out. If Feli couldn't play, he couldn't play, and he shouldn't have to act like he can just so this mug can delude himself that he actually deserved the match.

If he was injured that much it should have been enough for him to know that he didn't fight in the last game because of the injury. No excuses. Doesn't cost him to allow a low ranked player a happy moment if he himself knows he wasn't playing as well as he can.

I don't think there can be any good reason to retire one game from defeat unless you're in severe pain just standing there.

MTF used to be more unpredictable, now isn't even funny anymore. Last week when Feli won in the second round at the Queens, there wasn't a single thread for it, now that he retired at the 1st round of Eastbourne, of course it would be a thread for.
First at all, who really watched the match? I'm pretty sure not half of you have seen it!! Cause I doubt you had any interest in this match before it starts. Second, what is the point for an injured palyer stay on court just to finished the match in order to have a "real win"? Third, why can you not care at least once for the player's health, any player, more than any result? Fourth, everyone should be aware and well informed before say anything about others. Feli didn't retire on the MP, he actually saved 2 MP on his service and retired on the last game, before ANY other MP.
Seriously, the haters should all save their energy for something good, I'm sure you all should be a happier person, cause now you must all be a very sad one. My compassion to you all!

I was actually at the match, and Lopez appeared to be injured from about game 3 in the first set, by which time Ward was already a break up. Injured or not, he seemed to be showing very poor body language, whereas Ward was playing out of his skin.

Lopez had the trainer on early in the second set, and if he had retired then I don't think he would have been criticized. Instead he chose to play on, knowing that he would have to play 3 sets to win, and then when he is playing as well as he did all match he chooses to retire when Ward is one game away from victory.

I am sure he was no worse at 4-5 than he was at 3-5, and it saddens me that so many players these days do not see the match out.

Schu

I like Feli (or at least I Did) but this was totally classless.

It's not about his health. Unless the guy was having a heart attack or his appendix was about to burst playing ONE more game would not have hurt his health, so enough with that lame defense. Yea he probably was in pain and wanted to stop but if he played through it for as long as he did, what's one more game?

And it's not about giving the opponent a "real win"; it's about showing some respect for your opponent AND yourself. Sure everyone including Ward knows he wouldn't have won without the injury but retiring with one more game to go is basically saying Screw You to your opponent and I don't give a shit about this game.

I accept your argument! And you just confirmed what I said. The problem is that people here think that he retired when Ward had 2MP and therefore he was unclass. But Like you said, he was already struggling, so no difference by the time he was going to retire, but people here still complain about that! And still, why?
Do you really think he was kind of faking it or something like that? I'm just asking, really, cause once you are there, it's pretty much the only point of view that I respect. Tks!! :)
Some people on MTF just like to criticize without known the real facts! ;)

Ales_Alessandra
06-16-2010, 12:08 AM
I got your points Schu and GoldenOldie, but then I ask you, why he saved 2 MP on his service? The match could be over by that time!
You can have your opnios as I can have mine, we can respect that and live with it.
But unfortunately some people don't know how to do that in here! And yeah, might be a lame defense, but I rather be defending than attacking!
Done with it!! Life keeps going on, fortuntely! :)
