I like it when there are lots of lowr ranked players left, adds to the unredictability of who's going to win.

It does seem very odd! Imagine if Dudi Sela wins Queens, I mean where has he been. Also I bet all these players left will go out early at Wimby, they are jokers.

Problems adjusting to the surface, may be?

If each of the upsets were to happen independently in separate tournaments then perhaps it would not have been much of a surprise. The top 4 seeds all being beaten by a better player on the day early in the same tournament, however, is a deviation from the trend we saw in recent years where the top players dominated the tour.

I don't think it would be wise to read too much into this, other than that if these player's don't step it up a level in the next coupe of week, then (contrary to say the last 6 years where only 3 dfferent men have contested the title) Wimbledon may produce a few surprises.

Cud be. Players are more likely to fall victims to grass.

Hopefully more of this happens at Wimbledon and USO Series.

Clay was way too effing predictable and people got used to it. There are more upsets on other surfaces.

They changed sometrhing with the surface at Queens last year, it was unbelievably difficult to break. This year is pretty much the same, despite cooler conditions. Very fast best-of-three really punishes inconsistency, especially against lower level fastcourters with big serves like Lopez and Fish.

Strategic tank. Let the little guys win for a change. They can keep their ATP 250s. What's the point in turning it on for small tournaments only to bend over in the slams?

lovely tournament, first Verdasco, Tsonga, Karlovic, Gulbis, Simon and Ancic pull out, then Roddick(4), Djokovic(5), and Cilic(5) all lot their matches yesterday, and today Nadal(1) and Murray(3) went out...
Hope they will all look much better at Wimbledon :)

But serioualy, all of them (except Djoko maybe) will make at least the QF in Wimby. I even expect Nadal to make the final. Book it.

I like seeding massacres. It gives me an opportunity to watch a greater number of different and lower ranked players in action, rather than the usual suspects. Plenty of Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Roddick matches are televised throughout the year anyway.

appearance fee + almost no points + sucky prize money + high risk of injury due to conditions = 2 matches then bye bye.

makes sense for all of them except Roddick.

and he really does have a hamstring strain. so you are right. very high risk of injury or compounding the existing issue.

it was an excellent loss. what the clay warrior needs more than anything right now is some well deserved rest and recuperation.

I think the reason Queens sucks this year is because of the horrible court conditions. It was wet and slippery almost in every match and players feared an injury and rightly so. You cannot concentrate and play your best when you're fearing an injury. Read the pressers, they all complain about it.
